PARENT-TEACHER/STAFF CONFERENCES - NOV 12
|
CMIT South will be holding Parent-teacher conferences scheduled for November 12, 2018 a different way this year.
Staff members who wish to have indicated their willingness to hold conferences after school on November 7, 2018 and November 9, 2018. Conferences occurring on these days will be between 4:00pm and 7:00pm on both days. Staff members opting for these days will be available both days.
Some staff members will still hold conferences on November 12, 2018. Conferences on this day will begin at 8:00am while the last conference will be scheduled for 2:30pm. There will be a lunch break for staff between 11:15am and 12:00noon on this day.
A Signup Genius link will be provided next week via email and newsletter. This will specify what day(s) each staff is available and allow interested parents to pick a slot. Please look out for this link. We look forward to seeing you.

LOTTERY OPENS FOR PGCPS PCS FOR 2019-2020
|
Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) public charter schools is now accepting online Charter School applications for the 2019-2020 school year starting November 01, 2018.
This year, lottery applications will be available for CMIT South MS/HS Grades 6 through 12.
All Prince George’s County families can apply to a public charter school, as there are no attendance boundaries assigned to charter schools. Interested families must complete the online application for each child they wish to enroll.
Prospective public charter school families must ensure that the students has a PGCPS student ID to apply. If your student does not have a PGCPS ID, please visit your neighborhood school to get one. You will need this information when completing the application.

8th grade JA Finance Trip was a full of success!!!

Our 8th grade scholars went to JA finance trip this week. They were a new graduate, needed to manage their life according to their income. Everybody had fun with daily life experiences. CLF Basketball Academy Varsity classes start on Nov 8 REGISTER NOW!

Together, your Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation and the Bellucci Basketball Academy announces a partnership to deliver joint solutions designed to improve students basketball skills. Bellucci Basketball Academy, or BBA, is the only basketball training in New York and Maryland that applies techniques used by professional athletes across the country. At BBA, we train basketball fundamentals like shooting, dribbling, and defense and then advance those concepts to include improving speed, agility, reading defenses, and reacting to the play on the court.

'CLEAN UP, GREEN UP' @ CMIT SOUTH MS/HS
|
Each spring and fall, Prince George’s County hosts a countywide community clean up program. The event supports initiative to make our community cleaner and greener by conducting individual community plantings and coordinating beautification activities throughout the County. “Clean Up, Green Up” occurred on October 20, 2018 thanks to CMIT South MS/HS PTO. The community came together to help make the outside of CMIT South MS/HS grounds beautiful. We are always indebted to our 'village' as always.

CMIT South PTO First Friday's - November 'Lunch on Me' Campaign Donation
|
First Friday’s -Lunch on Me Campaign is collecting money on Friday, November 2nd!
It is easy and simple. We are asking parents to donate their lunch money the 1st Friday of each month ($8 each month for 8 months). You can pay $8 a month or $64 per family total. Payments can be made via:
- A Drop Box in the drop-off line on 1st Friday Mornings;
- Drop Box near the front office area;
- On-line store through pt-avenue.com by entering organization code -CMITSPTO.
We are challenging each of you to help us reach the goal of having a minimum of 100 parents, friends, and family to contribute to this fundraising campaign. The Costa Rica Tour Informational Meeting was a Success!
|
Congratulations to Ocean Bryant for being the first to register for Costa Rica Summer 2020 tour. In addition to receiving the early enrollment savings of $200.00, he will receive a bonus cost savings for being the first to register.
Enrollment for Costa Rica Tour is now open at www.eftours.com. Use code 2147267KB. Enrollment fee is $95.00 per traveler.

Annual Umoja Girls "Pack A Purse" Drive Supporting Teen Girls in Foster Care
|
Please support the Umoja Girls Mentoring Club with their Pack A Purse Drive to support Teen Girls in Foster Care. It is important to give back and as Umoja Girls that is how we are we are demonstrating our overall theme of "Sisterhood. "
Staring on Thursday, November 1, 2018, the Umoja Girls will work as a team to provide binds in the Main Office, Middle and High School RELA classrooms as drop off points in the school. Daily the binds will be emptied and items stored in Mrs. Dabney's classroom room 309. The drive will end on December 3, 2018. The Sponsor of Pack A Purse will pick up the items to ensure the purses and items are delivered to the girls in foster Care just in time for Winter Break. The Umjoa Girls will also have the opportunity to earn additional /Volunteer hours by participating in the Packing Party scheduled for December 8, 2018, time and location will be announced.

CLASS of 2023 - Community Service Project - Donation Collection- Extended until Wednesday, November 7th
|
Come join us and TREAT some men in need !!
The class of 2023 is supporting the Men at a Capital Heights Transitional Shelter.
Over the summer, some members of the Class of 2023 dropped off some food at the Prince George’s House Men’s Transitional Shelter in Capitol Heights, MD. During that visit, they learned that the men have a need for basic, everyday necessities like:

• Deodorant
• Toothpaste
• Toothbrushes
• Lotion
• Razors
• Shaving cream
• Socks
• Twin sheet sets
If you’re able to donate, please bring your items to the school by Wednesday, November 7th and place them in baskets near the front office Labeled CLASS 2023 Donations.

PSAT 8/9 Save the DATE!
|
CMIT South MS/HS will be administering the PSAT 8/9 to 8th graders on Wednesday, December 5th and Tuesday, December 11th for 9th graders. Both test will be given during the school day at no cost for our students. It is imperative that your child is present on the day of his/her testing day, This is a standardize assessment that is given across the United States one official day. With that said, we will deal on a case by case bases if any emergency should arise for any student who can not make their specific test day. Attach to this blurb you will find a student study guide to help acclimate your child to the format and types of questions on this test.

Spanish 2- Drama-Performance and Unit 2 Test

We started this week the script for the acting-performance about part of the house and chores.
Next week we will go to the auditorium for the final version of their performance. Clothes and items for the performance must be in the locker until we are going to use it in the auditorium.
Unit 2 Test will be open Monday and I am going to explain it one time in my classroom.
All students are expected to complete it by November 9, 2018.
Students will have two attempt and highest score.
Be sure completed and submitted before the due date.

Hello families,
I just wanted to provide a few updates for my two science classes this year. I am teaching Biology and Physics this year and have broken down the updates below.
Biology Update:
- We are finishing up Unit 2 in the coming days
- Some topics covered: Atoms, Water, Carbon, Chemical Reactions
- This week we will review Unit 2 and take the Unit 2 test
- The hope is to have Unit 2 graded and on the Quarter 1 report card - this is dependent on how I feel students are grasping the end of the unit material
Physics Update (Similar to Biology):
- We are finishing up Unit 2 in the coming days
- Math has been essential and will continue to be necessary to understand and apply concepts for the year
- Other topics covered: Vectors, Graphing, Acceleration
- The review needs will be based on student feedback and heavily intensive on graphing and acceleration problems.

For the 13th consecutive year, the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Kappa Epsilon Lambda Chapter have put together a dynamic must see college fair.
Working in partnership with the Southern Maryland Technology and Recreation Complex (Maryland National Capitol Park and Planning Commission), the Kappa Epsilon Lambda Education Foundation (KELEF) and the Eta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Bowie State University have agreed to participate in this college fair. Umoja Girls Weekly sessioon
|
Today the Umoja girls' session was on Self-esteem, Self Value, and Self Worth
We defined Self Esteem and learn techniques to help improve our self-esteem.
We created an "I am " sheet providing positive thoughts of how we think of ourselves. We then wrote a few of the I AM statements on a mirror to further remind us of our greatness.
The girls demonstrated how our body language connects with our positive self-esteem.
Posture: standing up straight
Speech: clear, slow (not rushed)
Eye Contact: looking people in the eye, not looking down..
Facial expression: smiling and cheerful
Hands: not fidgeting
Arms: to your side, not crossed
Head: held high, not down

As a reminder, MOD is a leadership development program that informs, motivates, mentors, instills character, integrity, and accountability in select middle and high school male students. This is done through mentoring activities that focus on character-building, cultural activities, issue-oriented panels and seminars, and interaction with community leaders.

Do I have to purchase uniforms from this vendor?
No, however, uniforms purchased from other vendors must have 100% identical color tone and the CMIT South logo. The current uniform vendor provides donation to the CMIT South PTO based on sales. Each uniform purchase from Minuteman Press is contribution to the school.
What is CMIT South's Daily Schedule?
8:20am - 8:40am:
- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)
- Doors close at 8:40am (after 8:40am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)
8:20am - 8:45am:
- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 8:45am)
8:45am - 2:49pm for 6th & High School grades and 8:45am - 2:54pm for 7th & 8th grades:
- Academic instruction
2:49/2:54pm - 3:10 pm:
Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:10pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).
Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities.
How do I pay for my child's lunch?
Breakfast and lunch are served every day. You can add money to your child's account by visiting this link. You can also pay by cash or money order in the cafeteria.
Can my child bring their own lunch to school?
Students can bring a lunch from home. Lunches can be stored in the student's locker. Lunch taken to lunch room should be consumed in lunch room. Student cannot return to locker after lunch. All lunch bags should be left in lockers if student do not wish to place in bins after lunch. Lunch bags are not allowed in class.
What do they serve for school lunch?

What is the academic calendar?
CMIT follows the Prince George's County Public School calendar found here. To receive notifications of PGCPS school cancellations by providing information here.
