Saturday Academy - We will RESUME on January 22nd
Please make sure that your child brings his/her device to work. Also, make sure your child knows what they need assistance with when they arrive. Dear Parents/Guardians, As a part of making sure, we at CMIT South do the very best to provide students with as many opportunities to improve their educational experience. We want to offer an optional small group setting to assist our students during Saturday Academy in our core classes of English and math. In these sessions, students can ask to receive additional help. We will help with homework and provide additional skills practice in the areas of RELA and Math. Our primary focus is on math and RELA, but we will try to help in the areas of science and social studies. Of Course, COVID-19 protocols are still in place. Students will need to wear their masks at all times. They will need to continue to Social Distance. If your child is out for quarantine this is extended to Saturday Academy. Lastly, if your child is not feeling well please do not send them to Saturday Academy. If you decide to take this optional opportunity, it begins Saturday, November 6. We offer two sessions each Saturday. Session 1 is from 9:00 am -10:30 am and Session 2 10:40-12:30. You can decide which session fits your schedule best. If you choose to send your child, registering is very simple. Drop your child off at the designated location. This location is the doors located before you get to the middle school ramp. Drop-off and pick-up will use the same doors. A sign will be posted on the door to indicate that you are at the right location. There will be a weekly sign-in sheet each Saturday. Allowing me to keep track of which subject your child wants assistance with each week. Your child can participate in both sessions. If you decide that you want your child to do both sessions to receive help in English and math. Please provide them with a snack to eat if possible. It is imperative that you pick up your child on time! Failure to do so will result in your child not being allowed to continue attending these free sessions. We look forward to seeing you on Saturdays. The registration form is below. https://forms.gle/k3KGyFAV5HeXR8Ra9 Georgia Jones, Testing Coordinator

Student Service-Learning Opportunity - USDA NRCS
My name is Laura Eddy, and I am the Earth Team Volunteer Coordinator for the Maryland Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Earth Team Volunteer Program. NRCS is a federal agency under the USDA, which provides cost-share financial assistance programs, technical assistance, soil survey information, wetland, and highly erodible land determinations, and more to support farmers and forestland owners meet their conservation goals. Earth Team is a program that allows NRCS to partner volunteers with employees to provide a wide range of services to private landowners and the public. These activities can include conservation technical assistance, office support, and teaching and generating awareness about conservation through community projects. This special partnership is a great way for students and recent graduates to build their resume and a wonderful opportunity for anyone who wants to be involved in helping to conserve our nation’s natural resources. I found your information on the Prince George’s County Student Service Learning Program website, and have a potential volunteer opportunity for your high school students (14 years or older). I have attached a promotional flyer for the initiative, along with a document to describe what our volunteer program is all about. Our project description is below: People’s Garden Initiative: USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is looking for volunteers to assist with the People’s Garden, located outside of the USDA headquarters in Washington, DC. The site is easily accessible - only a block from the Metro! This initiative was started by our Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, during the Obama administration. Secretary Vilsack and the USDA team are now working to revitalize the People’s Garden to showcase what we do at USDA, raise awareness about sustainable agriculture practices, connect people with where their food comes from, and educate on protecting our environment and conserving resources. Volunteers are needed for a variety of activities such as garden preparation, planting, and maintenance. There are many days and times available for this opportunity with more details to come. This fun volunteer opportunity is offered through NRCS Maryland’s Earth Team Volunteer Program. Please reach out to Maryland’s Earth Team Volunteer Coordinator, Laura Eddy, at Laura.Eddy@usda.gov for more information and to get on our volunteer communications list. We will have more information on specific dates and times soon. Thank you!

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Welcome Back!
Greetings CMIT-South Middle School Families! We are excited to welcome our students back from virtual learning on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Students should arrive to school in full uniform and follow their normal morning routine; visiting their locker as they arrive and then moving straight to their first period classroom for homeroom and breakfast. We are adhering to the CDC and county guidelines for keeping students safe during COVID and expect all students to properly wear their mask at all times (non-negotiable) and as excited as they are to see each other, social distance as much as possible. As we return back to the classroom with just a few weeks remaining in the 2nd quarter, one of our top priorities for scholars is that they remain focused on learning. Expectations for positive school and classroom behaviors remain, and all school policies will be enforced. We want to remind scholars that cell phones should be turned off and out of site for the entire day. As always we look forward to our continued partnership with families and a great rest of the school year!

Ms. O'Daniel's Class Update
Greetings, As we prepare for returning into the building please keep in mind to have charged chrome books. Students will not be permitted to change their assigned seats to charge their chrome books as this creates confusion for contract tracing. Students will also not be permitted to use their cell phones in the classroom. Cell phones create distractions in the learning environment and all work can be completed from a chrome book that has been assigned to all students. Students should also check SchoolMax at the end of each week to ensure they are not falling behind with their assignments. As stated in the email earlier this week I have noticed a lot of missing assignments from the week prior of Winter Break. Please take a few moments to discuss grades with your scholars and email me at your earliest convivence to discuss any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing all of our scholars again and am thankful for your continued support as we navigate this school year together.
