REGISTRATION FOR MAKERFEST IS OPEN!
|
Held on the first Saturday in May, this will be the 3rd Annual MakerFEST, CLF's yearly STEAM Festival celebrating our community's inner genius! CLF schools are now eight programs and six institutions across the State of Maryland serving over 3,200 students K-12! MakerFEST invites these students to participate with staff, parents and our wider CLF STEM community partners to feel encouraged to exhibit and enjoy all the day's inventions, artwork, personal projects, experiments, robots, wild creations, noble attempts, fine solutions to typical problems, and makers making so much more!
CLF will also have volunteer opportunities available for anyone who wants to help build the best MakerFEST ever!
To register for an exhibition space visit
https://www.clfadvancedstudies.org/makerfest
For volunteer opportunities visit
https://goo.gl/forms/y1qs5zfo8OPOuRo92
This year, the first Saturday in May happens to coincide with May 4th, often celebrated by fans of the widely popular Star Wars franchise.
We fundamentally feel obligated since astronomy, space exploration fit all too well into the MakerFEST concept, so Community Partnerships is also encouraging all exhibitors to share their project progress with @CLF_CLF on twitter or @ChesapeakeLighthouseFoundation on Facebook with the hashtag #MayTheFourthBuildWithYou.
Until next update, May The Fourth Be With You!

High School Update
|
Hello CMIT-South Families,
I hope all is well and you had a great week. Some of you may have seen this email already but if not I wanted to share it on multiple avenues for families.
If you do not know me, I am Mr. Wassam and I am the current Biology and Physics teacher and the High School Chair. As a high school team we recently had a meeting to discuss on going events and issues within the high school. I wanted to reach out to families so that they were aware of some of the decisions we are making as a team.
First, please check the newsletter for ongoing announcements and upcoming events. We are celebrating and recognizing Autism Awareness this month and the resource team has prepared lessons, facts, and events during the month.
Next, the biggest concerns we have seen as a team has surrounded cheating and plagiarism. In one instance, students were found to have a group chat to share assignments and answers on tests and quizzes. Teachers have also found a number of copy and paste responses on student work. Technology has been prevalent in multiple cheating cases, but technology is a tool used in education not a replacement for skills. Students need to master and leverage the advantages of technology not abuse it. As a team we are working to address this and have consistent policies and procedures across all grades and subjects.
From the teachers perspective the consequences do not seem serious to our students. We do not want the students to develop a habit of dishonestly. We are continuously reminding the students of the importance of honesty and integrity. In the future students may be put on academic probation or worse kicked out of college. In their careers they may be fired and/or sued for plagiarizing work. Work ethic and study habits are reflective of success both in the classroom and in the real world.
We know not every student is guilty but we are asking all families to have serious conversations about the repercussions of cheating.
Please feel free to contact any teacher, myself, or administration if you have any questions.
Have a great weekend!
Mr. Wassam
