DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
|
We understand and share in the frustration with the traffic flow during dismissal. As those on the frontline, we want dismissal to occur as safely and efficiently as possible. A large part falls on our parent community for support. Law enforcement has been instructed to ticket and clear out any cars that are breaking laws such as parking in no parking zones and making unlawful U-turns. This is a safety concern for our students and aiding in the traffic build up. Every parent/guardian or transportation aid is expected to follow the dismissal procedures which includes entering the school's parking lot and exiting through the identified alley.
* Please be kind and compliant to the staff members and volunteers directing traffic.
* Do not park in the alley exiting the property. It is causing too close of contact with students and moving cars. There are “No Parking” signs present.
* Do not park on Fallard Drive or Fallard Ct and instruct your scholars to meet you down the street. That is also aiding in the traffic build up and students crossing the streets unsafely. There are “No Parking” signs present. Violators will be ticketed.
* Refrain from making unlawful U-turns.
* Do not park in the parking lots of our neighboring businesses.
We are continuously working for greater partnership and consistency with law enforcement to help the flow of traffic. Thank you in advance for your patience and compliance with our dismissal procedures. Please continue to set good examples for our students regarding following the rules, even when we don't like/agree with them.

Picture Day is Approaching
|
Attention all Tiger Scholars - both Middle and High School!
Picture day will take place on November 1st and 2nd here at CMIT South.
Students need to wear the following:
-CMIT South uniform polo shirts
-Appropriate uniform pants & shoes as usual
If a student does not have a uniform polo shirt due to a uniform shortage, they should wear a plain polo shirt in one of the appropriate colors (blue/green for middle school and purple/gold for high school).
If a student has PE class on their picture day, they should still wear their normal uniform and NOT their PE attire.
Students do not need to wear their school oxford shirt this year and all students will be photographed. Students not in the correct uniform on picture day will need to participate in the Retake Day if they want to appear in the school yearbook as only the correctly uniformed students will appear in the yearbook. Students wearing a school sweatshirt or jacket will be asked to take it off for their picture.
High School students will receive a student ID using their uniform photo. IDs will not be immediately distributed.
Picture day forms will be sent home via each Scholar's English class next week.

COVID CLARITY
If you receive a letter from the school being identified as a close contact, one with symptoms and/or you are confirmed COVID positive (outside lab or through pool testing) please read in its entirety for complete instructions.
-ALL COVID POSITIVE cases must have clearance from the Health Department PRIOR to returning to school; no exceptions.
-ALL UNVACCINATED Close Contacts are required to show proof of a negative PCR COVID test (not rapid) from DAY 5 of quarantine or later PRIOR to returning to school.
Please see PGCPS Quarantine and Testing Guidelines for more information; https://www.pgcps.org/coronavirus/resources/quarantine-and-testing. These are only guidelines; when a scholar/staff may return depends on several factors. Your cooperation is important for the well-being of your family, our families and the entire CMIT South community as a whole.
IMMUNIZATION DELLIQUENCY
If you received a letter earlier this school year re: immunization noncompliance your date has been extended to November 15, 2021.
When to Stay Home from School/Work
Gone are the days we medicate our scholars and ourselves with Advil or Tylenol for minor cold/allergy symptoms and send them on their way to school. COVID has impacted us all. Please do daily symptom checks, if you or your scholar are exhibiting symptoms, stay home from school/work and monitor. Contact your PCP for guidance prior to sending to school. If these symptoms are related to an underline chronic medical condition that is within student's baseline, provide the school with such documentation.

NEWMAN'S RELA NEWS: WEEK OF 10/25/21
|
Good Morning Parents & Students of the following classes:
73 UMES | 74 HOWARD | 83 PRINCETON | 84 JOHNS HOPKINS:
I hope my note finds you well. Students have been asked several times to keep their cell phones off and put away in their bags. Unfortunately, this is not happening. I have had to remind several students multiple times during class to put their cell phones away. This is unacceptable.
To help eliminate cell phone usage during class, if I see a device, the student will receive an automatic -10 SIS points for using their cell phone during class. If they take it out again, it will be an additional -10 points deduction for insubordination. If I have to ask them a third time, I will immediately call a parent during class. If the behavior continues, the student will be referred to an assistant principal.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Best,
Mrs. Hakisha Newman, M.Ed., M.A.

Here are some updates for each class:
AP Government and Politics:
We are wrapping up unit one next week with the unit one assessment Friday November 5, 2021. Scholars will receive a study guide and we will spend a day reviewing the material in class before the assessment. We will then begin unit two November 8, 2021. The code for AP Classroom is as follows: XP43RM Students should register on College Board along with payment on MySchoolBucks. If there are any questions please email gjones@cmitsouth.org as soon as possible.
LSN Government:
Students applied what they have learned in Unit One by creating their own island and deciding which type of government they would be executing on their island along with other key concepts from unit one. We began Unit Two this week which begins the transition into American government. Students will begin to examine the Constitution and other foundational documents that lay the framework for the government of the United States.
Comparative Religions:
Students have wrapped up our unit on Christianity and will being their unit on Islam starting November 1, 2021. Students will be able to compare and contrast the monotheistic religions of our curriculum. UPCOMING EVENTS

Saturday Academy Begins November 6
|
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As a part of making sure, we at CMIT South do the very best to provide students with as many opportunities to improve their educational experience. We want to offer an optional small group setting to assist our students during Saturday Academy in our core classes of English and math. In these sessions, students can ask to receive additional help. We will help with homework and provide additional skills practice in the areas of RELA and Math. Our primary focus is on math and RELA, but we will try to help in the areas of science and social studies.
Of Course, COVID-19 protocols are still in place. Students will need to wear their masks at all times. They will need to continue to Social Distance. If your child is out for quarantine this is extended to Saturday Academy. Lastly, if your child is not feeling well please do not send them to Saturday Academy.
If you decide to take this optional opportunity, it begin Saturday, November 6. We offer two sessions each Saturday. Session 1 is from 9:00 am -10:30 am and Session 2 10:35-12:30. You can decide which session fits your schedule best. If you choose to send your child, registering is very simple. Drop your child off at the designated location. This location is the doors located before you get to the middle school ramp. Drop-off and pick-up will use the same doors. A sign will be posted on the door to indicate that you are at the right location.
There will be a weekly sign-in sheet each Saturday. Allowing me to keep track of which subject your child wants assistance with each week. Your child can participate in both sessions. If you decide that you want your child to do both sessions to receive help in English and math. Please provide them with a snack to eat if possible.
It is imperative that you pick up your child on time! Failure to do so will result in your child not being allowed to continue attending these free sessions.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturdays.

Testing Coordinator
