National Junior Honors Society Induction
On Thursday May 30, 2019, scholars from CMIT South Middle School were inducted into the Alpha Chapter of National Junior Honors Society. Successful students are those who are not only on Honor Roll, but are also able to demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929. Five main purposes have guided chapters of NJHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter. CMIT South MS/HS congratulates all 25 inductees. We look forward to the greatness we are sure they will demonstrate.

UMOJA Close out!
Umoja ended on great NOTE! Umoja received first-hand information during a powerful panel discussion. The panel included 8 awesome young ladies, currently in college, most recent graduate or those choosing to own and operate their own business. They brought the 'Girl Power!" The panel discussion was facilitated by our own, Ms. Naomi Afari, the RELA 9th grade teacher. The purpose of the panel discussion was to prepare Umoja for College/Career Readiness, giving them insight on the next steps: and realizing " It's a Different World." We also had a special treat with a parent discussion "Raising Our Daughters" led by Ms., Ebony Neptune, mother and social worker for Alexandria Public Schools and a lady of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. We were blessed to have fathers and mothers attending the parent discussion. The day ended with a special video presentation viewing a year of Umoja. Umoja Awards were presented to Umoja club members under the categories of Leadership, Shinning Star, Academic, and Advisor’s Heart. Special acknowledgments to Umoja Volunteers were given as well. #AGREATYEAR #GoUMOJA
