GENERAL NEWS
SUMMER ASSIGNMENT IS HERE
A tradition at CMIT South is for all students to complete summer assignments in RELA, Math, Science and Technology. Students are expected to begin their summer assignments by July 1, 2017. Some assignments have due dates during the months of July and August. All assignments are due on or before September 14, 2018. Teachers of these subjects are providing necessary directions for summer assignments during this last few weeks in class. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions. Teacher will not be available during the summer break. Questions related to summer assignment during the summer break should be directed to testing@cmitsouth.org. Summer assignments constitute part of the assessment grades for first quarter of the new school year. Links to summer assignments are below. June 19 and 20 - Early Release
Tuesday, June 19 and Wednesday, June 20 are 2-hour early dismissal school days. Students should be picked up by 1:00pm. Attendance is taken and entered in Schoolmax. Teachers will finalize and publish grades by midnight of June 20. Parents are asked to check the final grades in Schoolmax on June 21. Have a great summer.

ATHLETIC BANQUET
On June 13 and 15, 2018, CMIT South Athletic department held athletic banquets for all student athletes who participated in Athletic events and represented CMIT South during SY18. Students had the opportunity hearing from Howard University Athletic department representatives. Students were presented with trophies by their coaches and received donated Chick-fil-a gift cards given by our Partners at the Steeplechase and Caps Boulevard Chick-fil-a.

SILICON 100 GRADUATES
Zorah Neal, Moses Vincent III, Kamara Manzie (former CMIT South Student), Nicholas Hand, Khalil Manzie Congratulations to these CMIT South students on graduating from the first phase of the Silicon 100 computer-coding program. Two of these students, Zorah Neal and Kamara Manzie, have been selected to advance to the two-week Advanced Boot camp, where they will compete for one of eight paid internships. Additionally, two of our students, Zorah Neal and Khalil Manzie, will also receive an ITIL certification, a premier technology certification.

CMIT South PTO Events for the New School Year 2018-2019!
-SATURDAY, AUGUST 25, 2018 Back to School Event at CMIT South Vendors, Activities for Students and Parents, Food, and lots more! - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2018 First Friday’s PTO Fundraiser -"Lunch on Me" Campaign begins for the month of October. We ask parents to donate their lunch money the 1st Friday of each month ($8 each month for 8 months- $64 per family). Participate on pt-avenue.com (organization code -CMITSPTO) and look for the online store or drop your donation in the First Friday Drop Box near the front desk. Thank you.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Locker Clean Out Monday, June 18th
On Monday, June 18th, all middle and high school students will clean out their assigned lockers. The 6th through 8th grade will clean out during Technology class. 9th grade (6th period) and 10th (7th period). All items and decorations must be removed from lockers. Students will not be able to access lockers after this date. Any items left in the lockers after Monday will be discarded.

Basketball Tournament
Dear Parents & Students, School will close 2 hours early on June 19th. Need an activity for your student until you can pick them up? CMIT South will host a Basketball Tournament on June 19th from 1-6pm. All students are welcome! Please come out and join us for food and fun!! Last Casual Day of the Year
Greetings CMIT-South Family! Wednesday, May 20th (Field Day) is our last Casual Day of the 2018 school year!! ALL students are permitted to dress in casual attire, however it must comply with the CMIT South casual dress code. This includes but is not limited to, no hoodies, no ripped pants, or cargo shorts. Please refer to the full policy on the CMIT-South website. Enjoy your weekend!

CAREER DAY - THANK YOU
CMIT South will like to thank all volunteers and speakers who came to make our Career Day a success. Students had the benefit of hearing from professionals from various fields. Our School Counselor, Ms. Amos did an awesome job coordinating this event. Thank you all.

Medications Housed in the Nurse's Office
Dear Parents, Please make arrangements to pick up any medications your child may have in the nurse’s office. All medications must be picked up before 2 PM on, or before, June 19, 2018. The medication must be picked up by a parent or a legal guardian. Medication will not be sent home, with students, under any circumstances. All medications not picked up by 2 PM on June 19, 2018 will be disposed of properly. Verizon Innovative STEM & Technology Program for Middle School Girls and Boys
The Verizon Innovative Learning Program will Introduce Augmented Reality, 3D Printing, Entrepreneurship and more to prepare Girls and Boys for the Tech Careers of the Future. Lunch will be provided over the summer. Program runs for three weeks in the summer and continues one Saturday per month through the year. Do I have to purchase uniforms from this vendor?

No, however, uniforms purchased from other vendors must have 100% identical color tone and the CMIT South logo. The current uniform vendor provides donation to the CMIT South PTO based on sales. Each uniform purchase from Minuteman Press is contribution to the school. 


What is CMIT South's Daily Schedule?
8:20am - 8:40am:
- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)
- Doors close at 8:40am (after 8:40am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)

8:20am - 8:45am:
- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 8:45am)

8:45am - 2:49pm for 6th & High School grades and 8:45am - 2:54pm for 7th & 8th grades: 
- Academic instruction

2:49/2:54pm - 3:10 pm: 
Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:10pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).

Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities. 

How do I pay for my child's lunch?
Breakfast and lunch are served every day. You can add money to your child's account by visiting this link. You can also pay by cash or money order in the cafeteria. 

Can my child bring their own lunch to school?
Students can bring a lunch from home. Lunches can be stored in the student's locker. Microwaves are available in the cafeteria to warm food. Refrigerators are not available for students. Lunch taken to lunch room should be consumed in lunch room. Student cannot return to locker after lunch. All lunch bags should be left in lockers if student do not wish to place in bins after lunch. Lunch bags are not allowed in class.

What do they serve for school lunch?
A monthly menu is provided by Food and Nutrition Services. Click here for lunch and breakfast menu.

What is the academic calendar?
CMIT follows the Prince George's County Public School calendar found here. To receive notifications of PGCPS school cancellations by providing information here.

Where can I find information about CMIT events and updates?
Every Friday CMIT South publishes its weekly newsletter. It is HIGHLY recommended that you subscribe to the newsletter. It is a vital means of communication between CMIT South and stakeholders.
