We are proud of our middle school Robotics team. We ranked to first place at First Lego League competition in Core Values part in the PGCC on Saturday, February 4. Our team was awarded with Core Values Award among 25 teams. This is our first time in this competition and it is CMIT South’s first trophy in FLL. Boxtops

It’s Box Tops submission time again! To date, our school has a lifetime earnings of $1380.30. Our last drive earned our school $213.70. Those small labels add up and these funds go directly to the PTO which support student activities.

Starting on Monday, February 13th, turn in your Box Tops by February 24th so they can be included in our school’s April check – it’s our last chance this school year to earn cash for our school. The university who collects the most Box Tops will win a pizza party. Student are requested to submit their Box tops on the template form provided or in a Ziploc bag which identifies full name and university. University Parents Representatives will account for the student submissions. No name and University equals no credit.

All Box Tops turned in after February 24th will go toward next fall’s check. Thanks for your help!

Weed Warrior Work Days

March 25th, 2017, 9:00am – 12:00 p.m. (Major Lansdale Park)

May 6th, 2017, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Whitemarsh Park)

June 10th, 2017, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Whitemarsh Park)

www.cityofbowie.org/weedwarriors

The City of Bowie’s Green Team is in need of volunteers to help remove English ivy from Whitemarsh Park. As an invasive, non-native plant, English ivy spreads quickly and easily, and is very destructive to native ecosystems. This is an outdoor activity that requires cutting the ivy vines at eye-level and foot-level, then pulling them back about two feet from the base of the tree to bag them. To participate, please register by contacting Kristin Larson (klarson@cityofbowie.org, 301-809-3044). This is a great Student Service Learning opportunity. Children age 14 and younger must be under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian or Troop Leader at all times, and no volunteers under age 16 can use tools but may participate by pulling and bagging vines. Tiffany Wright (Watershed Manager for the City of Bowie) or Kristin Larson (Sustainability Planner for the City of Bowie) will sign off on service learning hours for students at the event.

Stream Cleanup

Various Locations Around Bowie

April 1st, 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The City will hold its annual Stream Cleanup on Saturday, April 1, 2016, from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine (unless there is lightning). Stream teams walk along select streams across the City and pick up trash and litter that would otherwise wash down to the Patuxent River and head towards the Chesapeake Bay. Cleanup days are a great time for Bowie residents and their families to get out into the environment and experience nature while working to protect Bowie's water resources. We will provide all necessary supplies. You just need to have sturdy shoes or boots, long sleeves, water, and fun! Eligible students will earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours, and Scouts will receive a Green Bowie patch or year bar. To nominate a stream for cleaning or to register for the cleanup, contact Tiffany Wright at twright@cityofbowie.org or 301-809-3043

Community Seed Swap for Home, Community and School Gardeners.

Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM (EDT)
