We the Students Scholarship Essay Contest - Deadline for Entry is April 15, 2021
|
2021 We the Students Essay Contest
Essay Prompt: What is the relationship between Equality and Justice?
Answering this question requires considering each of these principles and analyzing the relationship between them.
To truly explore this question in an essay that is between 500 -800 words, you’ll need to go beyond "dictionary definitions," and express your understanding and reasoning about the connection between these two principles. This reasoning involves a combination of observation, experience, and some pretty "big ideas." What does it take to understand them? To build toward and maintain them? To see them with regard to each other? Why is this relationship important?
We encourage you to bring emotion, creativity, specific examples, and well-researched facts into what you write. A good essay will demonstrate how equality and justice are not just abstract ideas but are part of the actions and choices of people every day.
We genuinely want to know how you would answer the question – what is the relationship between Equality and Justice?
For more information and to sign up, please visit the following link.

Deadline for entry is April 15, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

Yearbook Photos Needed - Please Read!
|
Hello CSP community!
This form is being sent on behalf of the yearbook team. This year has presented new challenges for getting pictures of our students for the yearbook. As a member of this community, if you have any pictures of students that you believe may be appropriate for the yearbook, please send them in through this form. We would love to have pictures of students starting this past summer all the way up to now. Images of students celebrating events, participating in a sports team or club, virtually or in person, participating in classes virtually, or seeing friends virtually or in person are all welcome!
There is one rule that we must follow: all images taken ON SCHOOL PROPERTY of students interacting with someone that is not in their immediate family must show students wearing masks and standing at least 6 feet apart.
We are so excited to see what you have been up to!
Thank you for your help.

Repeat-Free School
|
Hi CSP Parents,
Please see below regarding details on Chesapeake Science Point's NO REPEAT policy. If you have questions and/or concerns regarding this matter, please reach out to your child's school counselor.
CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation and the student will have to take classes at CSP for more than four years.

University of Delaware for Fighting for All of Us: Activist Asian American Women
|
Join the University of Delaware for Fighting for All of Us: Activist Asian American Women, a film festival and discussion for area high schools and the wider community.
UD would like to invite teachers and administrators to register their classes for a discussion of two prominent Asian American activists who worked across ethnic groups and social classes to make the U.S. a more just and equitable society. Please forward this email to your colleagues. The program will focus on two documentaries, Yuri Kochiyama: Passion for Justice and American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs.
UD organizers will provide links to the streaming films, as well as teaching resources on Yuri Kochiyama and Grace Lee Boggs to generate conversations among your students and foster understanding about the diversity of individuals who worked to shape U.S. history and who struggled to make our country one that lives up to its founding ideals.
Participating schools are also encouraged to join us for two virtual panel discussions with the producers of the films, faculty from UD, and, in one instance, family of the activist. (For more information on the panels, click the link below.)
Panel discussion on Yuri Kochiyama: Passion for Justice, April 28
Panel discussion on American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs, May 5
We are excited to open this opportunity to area schools free of charge. Please forward this invitation to any teachers at your school who may be interested in joining us.

Scholarship Essay Help from Johns Hopkins
|
Hi Juniors!
Struggling while writing your college essay? Writing your college essay is a chance to add depth to something that is important to you and tell the admissions committee more about your background or goals. Test scores only tell part of your story, and admissions counselors want to know more than just how well you work. They want to see how you actually think.
Below you’ll find selected examples of essays that “worked,” as nominated by the Johns Hopkins admissions committee. In each of these essays, students were able to share stories from their everyday lives to reveal something about their character, values, and life that aligned with the culture and values at Hopkins.
Click the link below to see examples.

Virtual College Fair for MD/DC & VA Students
|
Due to the pandemic and school closures, districts across the United States have been resorting to the virtual world for college fairs too. The Virtual Fair for MD, VA, and DC will be held on April 14th, and to participate students will just need to register (by accessing the link below and on the flyer attached), and then log in on the 14th between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm. Counselors, teachers, and parents can also register and attend the fair in order to visit the virtual college booths, speak with live college admissions representatives via chat or video conference, take virtual campus tours, and much more.
Although the flyer indicates the fair is for AVID schools, it is actually open to ALL high school students (grades 9-12) and their parents. Also, the live portion of the fair will be on April 14th, but the link and the college booths will remain up and available until June so students can return and continue their college search as many times as they wish.
