Saturday Academy Begins October 22nd
Dear Parents/Guardians, Saturday Academy will officially begin on October 22nd, and we are excited to have your child/children participating with us. As a part of making sure, we at CMIT South do the very best to provide students with as many opportunities to improve their educational experience. We want to offer an optional small group setting to assist our students during Saturday Academy in our core classes of English and math. In these sessions, students can ask to receive additional help. We will help with homework and provide additional skills and practice in the areas of RELA and Math. Our primary focus is on math and RELA, but we will try to help in the areas of science and social studies. We also look forward to offering AP Class support and SAT Prep coming soon. We will have two sessions like in previous years for you to select from 9:00 AM-10:30 AM and 11:00 AM-12:30 PM. Of course, you can choose both sessions. Saturday Academy will function similarly to the past with me as your child’s guide. The link that I have provided is for me to enroll your child and then access the subject needs. https://forms.gle/SJimtFs3HKvBBB4Z9 Again, we looked forward to helping your child/children to receive additional support. Government Support- Saturday Academy Update
Greetings, My name is Ms. O'Daniel, and I teach all of the tenth grade social studies teacher; either in Local State National (LSN) Government, or AP U.S. Government and Politics. As many of you know CMIT South offers Saturday Academy which is a great opportunity for our scholars to receive any additional support and other opportunities to engage in learning. Government is the year for social studies that is tested for the county's graduation requirement meaning there will be an exam at the end of the year for both courses. I strongly encourage all scholars to attend Saturday Academy with myself to help ensure the material is being understood as the year goes on to best prepare our scholars for the exam.  Saturday Academy will be used for two purposes: first for any missing assignments that scholars may have that they need to catch up on and may need assistance with, and second for additional activities that will strengthen the knowledge of the course content. These additional activities will be EXTRA CREDIT for my class only. I will be contacting other social studies teachers if they would like to offer extra credit, however, it is only guaranteed for Ms. O'Daniel's class.   Please use this link that  is provided by Ms. Jones to enroll your scholar and then access the subject needs. Please be sure to fill out this link so that social studies will be offered on Saturday Academy. If there is no interest the social studies will be dropped and thus will not have available support for the graduation requirements.   https://forms.gle/SJimtFs3HKvBBB4Z9 Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns as I would be more than happy to help. I look forward to supporting our scholars in social studies.  Respectfully, Ms. O'Daniel

ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS
Attendance Policy Reminders
Hello CMIT South MS/HS Families, As we begin the new school year, we want to ensure that all parents and students know the CMIT South attendance policies. At CMIT South we follow the PGCPS attendance policy AP 5113. Below are some quick bullet points of the attendance policies: CMIT South will use the google form 2022-2023 Absence Reason Notification Form CMIT South Middle/High School for all student's absences. This form will serve as the official means of parent/guardian notifications for student absences. Parents can also email attendance@cmitsouth.org when their student will be absent. CMIT South does not take paper excused/doctor notes. When a student is going to be absent please fill out the google form 2022-2023 Absence Reason Notification Form CMIT South Middle/High School. This form will be sent straight to the attendance manager. Parents are the only ones who can fill out the form and email the attendance manager about a student who is absent. A student cannot send the email or fill out the google form, the absence will not be excused if a student does it. The google form must be filled out within 3 days of the student’s absence, otherwise, the absence will not be excused. This can be emailed as well. Students who are considered unlawfully (unexcused) absent from school or a class will not have the opportunity to make up missed assignments. A doctor’s note is needed if a student is reported absent for three school days for an illness and a physician’s certificate will be required if a student's absences reach six days. Please send the physician’s certificate directly to the school's attendance manager at attendance@cmitsouth.org. Mental Health Day. Students may receive as an excused absence one (1) day of absence in each semester of each school year for a student’s mental health needs. A note from a physician to excuse a student’s absence for mental health needs is not required. Here is the link to the 2022-2023 Absence Reason Notification Form CMIT South Middle/High School Form: https://forms.gle/QCb1Xu2ytD9vUToW6 Once again these are just some of the new updates that PGCPS has put in the attendance policy AP 5113. We encourage all parents to read the full updated attendance policy here: https://www.pgcps.org/globalassets/offices/general-counsel/docs---general-counsel/administrative-procedures/5000/administrative-procedure-5113---student-attendance-absence-and-truancy.pdf For all attendance-related information or questions please direct them to attendance@cmitsouth.org.
