GENERAL NEWS
Security Measures During Virtual Classes
CMIT South MS/HS virtual classrooms have had our share of a few unwelcome participants impersonating our scholars to join some virtual classrooms. This experience is usually brief, unpleasant and disruptive to learning. To increase the level of security in our virtual classrooms, teacher will begin requiring authentication for anyone to join. This means that students will have to login using their @cmitsouth.org email addresses. All scholars have been assigned an email address in this domain and they use the account daily. Scholars will also be expected to show their faces as they join classes. This allows teachers to see who if joining their classes and actually be able to identify their students. In this virtual learning environment, knowing our scholars and being able to actually identify them has been a challenge. Scholars can turn their video off once teaching and recording begins if they so choose. Have a great weekend.

What's the latest with Testing?
Bridge Diagnostic Testing has been completed and despite complications we tested as many students as we could. The purpose of the Diagnostic Test was only to guide instruction for our teachers. It also served as a marker to figure out what adjustments and improvements needed to be made before the next series of tests. So what’s next? Prince George’s Department of Testing, Research, and Evaluation has put together a wonderful resource for parents to support understanding of assessments for this 2020-21 school year. Please utilize the links to access the resources. https://tinyurl.com/y5andg9s https://tinyurl.com/y27pphn5 What Testings are Coming Soon? Benchmark testing for Math grades 3-8, Algebra 1&2, Geometry and RELA grades 3-10 window will open on November 2, 2020. FAST testing for science in grades 5 and grade 8, Biogeochemical Systems, Honors Chemistry, and Government window will open November 16, 2020. A schedule will be posted soon to prepare parents and students. How will these tests be administered? These tests will be administered through TestNav like the Diagnostic test. We will continue to work as best we can with any technological issues that may arise. However, when the window for these tests opens in November not knowing your PG username and password will not be an acceptable answer. If there are any students who still do not know this information please contact schoolmaxhelp@cmitsouth.org to request a password reset. When making the request please make sure in your email you put your first and last name and student number(if you know it) in order make the process move in a timely manner.

Tiger Tips from Ms. Green
Greetings!! We are entering the second half of the first quarter. Please visit SchoolMax to review progress report grades with your scholar. A physical copy of the progress report will not be printed and delivered via mail. To keep your scholar on the path to success we recommend establishing a routine for checking in with him/her at some point in the afternoon or evening for the glows and grows of their day and to make note of Assignments posted on Edmodo that may be coming due. Prompt completion of assignments and submission by the due date is essential to your scholars success. Scholars who are may need clarification of lessons or skills should reach out to their teacher via email or visit them during their office hours, which can be found on Edmodo with the accompanying Zoom link. Remember Monday October 12th is parent teacher conference day and there will be no virtual classes for students. Information regarding how to sign-up for conferences was emailed to parents on Wednesday October 7th. Friday October 16th is Professional Development Day for teachers and there will be no virtual classes for students. We are CMIT-South strong and look forward to every scholar successfully completing first quarter. Have a great weekend and stay safe.
