CMIT South Represents at Maryland State Science Bowl!
Saturday, March 3rd, eight of our middle school students blazed a trail as our inaugural Science Bowl team! We competed against teams from across Maryland and the District of Columbia in science and match knowledge.

We had three epic and hard-fought wins, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to get into the finals.

We're very proud of our team: Captains- Comfort Emeaba and Cadewryn Fletcher; Team Members- Nicolas Coleman, Hameerah Sulaimon, Akil Creswell, Amari Cobb, Joshua Smith, and Omari Robinson.

Major thanks for all students and parents for giving up part of their weekend to represent our school.

Go Tigers!

SHARE A CONDOLENCE
ATTENTION ALL PARENTS AND STUDENTS! All week next week the high school SGA will be collecting sympathy cards to send to the Parkland, Florida school shooting victims to show our sympathy and condolences. Your cards can be store bought or hand-made. There will also be a competition between 9th and 10th grade to see which grade can bring in the most cards and whichever grade brings in the most cards gets a pizza party in the cafeteria! Also, if you turn in a card you will receive an extra credit grade from your reading teacher.

The steps and info into turning in a card:

1) Please sign your full name with the date at the bottom inside of card (so you will get credit). You can also write a short note, if you like.

2) Put CMIT South on top left of the inside of card, with your city and state.

4) Turn the cards into your first period homeroom teacher.

Let' show our support!

Thank you!

Guidance of self-love Kudos To Ms. Amos
Yesterday after school I saw Ms. Amos placing positive messages on students locker. When I asked her why she said: "we need to have a little more self-love around here!" This morning I saw the faces and listen to the comments of the students as they arrived to see the colorful post-its on their lockers. It made a difference. All students need this encouragement and reminders more than we will ever know.

Thank you, Ms. Amos, for taking the time out to do this for our students. You ROCK!

GUESS WHAT THE HOLDER CLASS IS DOING THIS WEEK?
Hello all! The theme for this quarter (3rd Quarter) is "The US in Economic Injustices: How does economic inequality affect all of us?" Over the past two weeks, the students were recently asked to give a visual analysis of various political cartoons in a Gallery Walk. In this analysis, each student was required to address each cartoonist's claim/argument and provide supporting evidence from each cartoon. Each student was actively engaged in the activity and did a wonderful job in their analysis. I have attached several of these cartoons here. What would you say is the cartoonist's claim or argument for each and can you find the supporting evidence?

Skin Deep- Your Face
The CLP & Umoja Girls Mentoring groups had a combined session on Skin Care. The CLP Girls Mentoring group will use this session to assist with their personal goal as well as they enjoyed a day of learning about what it takes to take care of our skin especially the face; the first part of you people see. We were honored to have Ms. Kimberley McKinnley, MaryKay Beauty Consultant to facilitate a skin care class for our girls. Many teen girls need a booster to build their self-confidence and with their skin changing some time this can cause low self-esteem, confidence, and image. The objective was to provide a product and tips that will help the ladies with the care of their skin and to bring about some "self-love."

"Allow Her to Be Outwardly Confident
Often times, girls are taught that they should underplay their accomplishments and positive attributes. This mindset almost always tends to hurt them later in life, turning them into women who lack confidence in their abilities. It is important not to discourage your daughter from being outwardly confident about the things she is proud of concerning herself. While you should definitely encourage her not to be exceedingly arrogant, there is nothing wrong with your daughter admitting that she is a smart, beautiful, talented young woman." http://lifeasmama.com/8-ways-to-boost-your-teenage-daughters-self-esteem/
