GENERAL NEWS
CMIT SOUTH SY18 PSAT 8/9 RESULTS

The PSAT 8/9 results are out and students in the 8th grade had an opportunity to review their results with their teachers today. Students were also encouraged to create their personal Collegeboard account with their personal email address.

CMIT South scholars continue to outperform their peers. We are proud of the students' accomplishment but also very much aware that there is much work to be done to ensure that all of our scholars are meeting benchmark to ensure that they are on track toward College and Career Readiness. This is especially important in Math. In the coming days, CMIT South will be doubling down with instruction and support to continue in this path towards improvement. We anticipate your partnership and thank you.

ITEC Enrollment for SY18-19 is Now Open

Rising 9th-grade students are invited to participate in CMIT-South's Information Technology Early College (ITEC) program next year. This is a unique program that allows students to participate in dual enrollment courses beginning in the 9th grade and earn an Associate Degree in Information Technology by the time they graduate high school. The program is especially suited to students with a strong interest in information technology and those with a strong work ethic.

We have started the application process on Friday, January 19th, by giving ITEC application forms to our current 8th-grade students. The due date for ITEC application is Wednesday, January 31st, at 3:00 pm. All applications must be returned to Ms.Amos, Professional School Counselor, no later than the due date.

Students who successfully meet this deadline will be invited to take the Accuplacer Exam. Any student who meets PGCC eligibility requirements will be invited to continue the enrollment process which may include, but not limited to, interviews, teacher recommendations, and writing samples.

This enrollment season is the only opportunity to enroll in this unique program, ITEC, and the application deadline is firm.

For more information about ITEC program please check out the attached flyer and visit:

SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING APPRENTICE PROGRAM

The Science and Engineering Apprentice Program (SEAP) matches practicing DoD scientists with talented high school students creating a direct mentor-student relationship that provides students with training that is unparalleled at most high schools. SEAP participants receive first-hand research experience and exposure to Department of Defense laboratories. SEAP fosters desire in its participants to pursue further training and careers in STEM.
"I feel that I have grown as a student and researcher as a result of my involvement with the [SEAP] program. The most valuable part of the experience was, by far, the real-world research laboratory experience…
SEAP" Apprentice April 8, 2015

SEAP students work with their mentors, Army scientists and engineers, to gain “hands-on” experience in a professional research setting – where students are treated as research assistants rather than teenagers. SEAP provides students with the opportunity to learn how STEM research can benefit the Army as well as the civilian community. Students gain a broader view of their STEM field of interest and learn what kind of work awaits them in their future career.
At the end of the SEAP apprenticeship, students prepare and present final reports based on their research experience. All SEAP students who successfully complete their apprenticeship are awarded an educational stipend.
