Sibling Preference Application and Re-enrollment for 2017-18
|
On Wednesday, January 11, CMIT South parents will receive an online re-enrollment form for the next academic year. The form will help the school plan staffing and scheduling as well as determining the need for student supplies and learning materials. The parents who do not receive the email by the 12th should contact secretary@cmitsouth.org for a copy of the online form. CMIT South parents who have siblings will need to apply through PGCPS website. Saturday Academy Starts on January 14, 2017
|
Happy New Year!!!
This is to inform all that Saturday Academy will resume next Saturday - 01/14/2017 from 9:00am - 1:00pm. The school is closed on 01/07/17 due to impending inclement weather. Please know CMIT South is here to help your child achieve success. There are no signups necessary for Saturday Academy. CMIT South offers free Saturday Academy for enrichment in Math and Reading. Students in need of additional support in their classwork or homework may attend. Please refer to the schedule and plan to be punctual and consistent in your attendance to fully benefit from the session you choose.
Saturday Academy schedule:
09:00 – 11:00 || 1st Study Session
11:00 – 01:00 || 2nd Study Session
01:00 || Dismissal
Students are free to attend the session that works for them. Students attending for both subjects will need to arrive at 9:00am and be dismissed at 1:00pm. We look forward to serving you there.

SIS Events in January
|
During the month of January we will be celebrating those scholars that earned Casual Day and a ticket to the month SIS event. The points for these events will be from December 1 to December 31. Please find further specific information below.
Casual Day Monday January 9, student who have a balance of less than -11 points are eligible to participate. Students/Parents will receive an email notifying them of their eligibility. Students may dress down in casual attire as long as it meets the CMIT-South casual day requirements found on the website. If students do not follow the policy (wear a hoddie etc) they will lose their privilege to dress down in the future.
SIS Event-Bingo Thursday, January 13, students who had a positive balance during the month Students will receive a ticket to the Bingo games, students must present the ticket at the door, students will only receive 1 ticket.
"Pick a Casual Day" Students who earned a positive balance for two consecutive months during first will receive a pick a casual pass during this month.

High School Parent Night
|
Your opinions and advices so important for us to maintain positive and productive learning environment here at CMIT- South. We want to get your feedback about high school courses, social life of students, after school clubs and activities.
We are inviting high school parents to our first "High School Parent Night" on Friday, January 27th at 6:00 pm.
We are looking forward to see you!!!
I also want to share our sister school, CMIT-North's College Application Data which we will be sharing similar exciting news within three years.
-100% of Class of 2017 students submitted their college application through Naviance. -Class of 2017, is getting $1,447,068 scholarships from the colleges to which they have applied.

CMIT South Basketball
|
Congratulations to our CMIT South boy's and girl's basketball players. Our student athletes represented themselves well in the classroom and on the basketball court. Over 80 percent of our players achieved honor roll status for the 1st quarter.
Our final 2 games for the Middle School boy's and girl's team were against Ernest Just MS and Benjamin Foulois MS, respectively. Our boy's were defeated 40-32 by Ernest Just MS. Our girl's team suffered a heartbreaking defeat 34-33. Both teams closed out the season by soundly defeating Benjamin Foulois MS.
CMIT South Boy's Junior Varsity opened their inaugural season by defeating College Park Academy and Largo International HS to begin the season 2-0. We have upcoming games against Oxon Hil HS (1/6/17), Potomac HS (1/11/17..schedule change) and Gwynn Park HS (1/13/17).

SGA's Middle School Winter Dance and Social!

Thursday February 9th 2017 6:30- 9:00pm
This activity is open to: All 6-8 grade Students who maintained a PRS point balance above or equal to -15 SIS from January 3rd to February 3rd 2017.
Students will have the opportunity for social activity in the school cafeteria. Pizza will be provided free of charge, and Soda/ Candy/ Chips will be available for purchase for $0.50-$1.00. A DJ will be hired and the cafeteria decorated.
Tickets $5 in advance $7 at the door
Attire: Comfortable and Casual

Are you interested in performing in CMIT South's Middle School Talent Show? SGA is hosting tryouts for the show in on Feb 16th and 17th. If you would like to try out, sign up here! http://tinyurl.com/CMIT-S-Talent-2017Exceptional acts will be invited to callbacks on Feb 23rd, and then a panel will decide on the 12 lucky acts who will be invited to compete for prizes such as a google chromebook, gift cards and more at our talent show on Friday March 17th. Any talent is acceptable! In the past we have had instrumental, vocal, acting, comedy, magicians, dance, martial arts, and more!

Pending Approval! Camp In at the Franklin Institute Philadelphia!
|
The science department is proud to announce an upcoming overnight field trip to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA from January 19th- January 20th 2017! This is a CAMP IN and you will get the rare opportunity of sleeping inside the museum!
Cost $100 per student & chaperone. Tickets will be available soon; make your preps for cash/check payments. This field trip requires certain number of parent chaperones. Funds will be collected and tickets will be available for sale in January January.
Chaperone Requirements: Effective August 18, 2016, parents/guardians and other individuals interested in volunteering for PGCPS school system activities and events are required to complete: (1) a fingerprint background check and (2) child abuse/neglect clearance from CPS at least 14 days in advance of the activity/event. Both the fingerprint background check and the CPS clearance may be completed in the following offices at the PGCPS Sasscer Administration Building, 14201 School Lane, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772:

Cost includes Entry into Institute, dinner on the 19th, breakfast on the 20th, transportation, IMAX Showing, Planetarium Showing, LIVE Science Fireworks Show, and 1 year access to the institute!
SIS point eligibility of no more than -10 SIS will be a qualifying factor for participation.

What is the Uniform Policy?
The uniform policy can be found on our website, under Students tab.How do we order uniform items?Uniform items can be ordered by completing the online order form: http://www.glenburnie.minutemanpress.com/cmit/welcome.htmlDo I have to purchase uniforms from this vendor?No, however, uniforms purchased from other vendors must have 100% identical color tone and the CMIT South logo. The current uniform vendor provides donation to the CMIT South PTO based on sales. Each uniform purchase from Minuteman Press is contribution to the school.
What is CMIT's Daily Schedule?7:35- 7:45am:- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)- Doors close at 7:45am (after 7:45am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)7:35 - 7:57am:- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 7:50am)8:00am - 2:49pm for 6th grade and 2:54 for 7th grade: - Academic instruction2:49/2:54 - 3:05 pm: Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:10pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities.
