Morning Drop Off Tips!
|
Greetings!
We had a successful orientation day! We appreciate your cooperation, parents and guardians, during the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Here are a few tips and reminders! We're suggesting that scholars sit on the left side in the back of cars so they can quickly and safely exit on the left side of the vehicle. Students must use the sidewalk and crosswalks as they proceed to the cafeteria entrance. Students may be dropped off BEFORE they get to the cafeteria doors. We're asking drivers to keep moving forward and when traffic stops, they can allow scholars to safely exit on the left. Be sure to use the LEFT lane for drop-off! The right lane is for cars to exit. Thanks again for keeping our scholars safe and following our procedures.

Welcome Back Tigers!
|
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. I am looking forward to another wonderful school year at CMIT North High School. A new year is a time for inspirational dreams but more importantly a time to set your goals to see the dreams turn into a reality. I am always impressed with the professionalism and dedication of our CMIT staff, the parental support and the students' curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. I join in the partnership of all stakeholders involved in working together to ensure that our students experience success each and every day.
During the summer home visit program, I had a chance to meet with most of our 12th-grade students and their families. I was impressed to learn about their post-secondary plans and how the CMIT community supports these plans through offering summer college test prep sessions, essay workshops, individualized guidance, college searches, and visits. We hope to continue to provide these added services to our scholars as they aim to create better future opportunities.
I look forward to an outstanding year of watching our scholars flourish. Lastly, please remember that the most successful schools are those with the most active and supportive parents. Let’s work together to provide the BEST possible education for our students.

Students who have a CMIT-N parking permit (above) may park in the designated parking zones for the students.
There are two designated areas for Student Only parking:
1 - The parking zone behind the elementary school (parking spots 1-24). Students who have a parking permit with a number from 1 to 24 should park there. The number on the permit should match with the number on the parking spot.
2 - The parking zone in the neighboring building (opposite the cafeteria). There are 16 parking spots marked CMIT but without numbers. Students who have a parking permit with a number which is from 25 to 40 should park in this zone.
NO STUDENT IS ALLOWED TO DRIVE OR PARK ON SCHOOL PROPERTY WITHOUT A VALID CMIT-N STUDENT PARKING PERMIT. Also, if a student fails to follow CMIT-N parking rules, his/her car will be subject to towing!

Welcome to Week One!
|
Hello, 9th + 10th Grade Families:
It was wonderful to meet so many students during orientation Friday. Their emotions ranged from excitement to nervousness, but all in all, the reviews were good. Students received their schedules, met with their teachers, became familiar with the layout of the school, and began to learn procedures and expectations that will support their success throughout the year.
Fast forward to Wednesday, which is our first day of school. We will use the regular bell schedule for this day. Students should plan to be in their first period class by 8:05am and will be dismissed at 2:51pm. (They can enter the building at 7:50am.) Again, students should be in uniform and bring a charged Chromebook.
As we continue preparing for a successful school year, please review the material you find in this newsletter, especially the student handbook and drop-off/pick-up procedures. If you have not visited our website recently, it is also a good resource for information.
Again, I am looking forward to a great time with students.
All the best,
Ms. Colandrea

Welcome

Welcome back students!
I am happy to see you all return and excited for a great 2021-2022 school year!
As we all know, Covid-19 is still a threat in our lives. Therefore, we are required to continue following the PGCPS guidelines (washing hands, wearing masks, and social distancing). For those who are unvaccinated, I strongly encourage you to get vaccinated to help in the prevention of any health complication.
If any symptoms of Covid-19 are exhibited, students please notify your parents and stay home. For students who begin to feel sick at school, Covid-19 testing will now be available with a signature of approval from parents or guardian. This consent form must be signed and submitted to the school nurse where it will be held in the student's file. See below for resources and the consent form.
Thank you,
Nurse Abraha

New Technology Instructor at CMIT: Mr. McKinley!
|
Hi everyone!
My name is Mr. McKinley, and this is my first-year here at CMIT. My background is in Educational Technology and Learning, Design, and Technology, spending much of my time in Makerspaces, Libraries, and Discovery or Nature centers. I believe that learning is best when it is in an environment that allows you to be safe to take academic risks and infuse a lot of yourself into the content. To that end, I am dedicated to my students, creating space to listen and understand, and sharing the respect with all of you that we should uphold in the classroom. There are a lot more things to say, but we'll get there. To any of you feeling nervous about this upcoming year, I completely understand. These last 18+ months have been challenging across nearly every facet of our lives. We are doing our best at CMIT to ensure that you can have the space to really be yourself and come learn from our great teachers. The one thing that I ask of you is to be brave. My classes will always have space for you to be your most authentic self and know that as long as you demonstrate respect for yourselves, for one another, for our space, and for me, we're going to have an amazing year! 😊
A brief background: Before coming to CMIT North Academy, I had a dual role as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion partner, as well as an Internal Communications liaison at an International Development company. I am a fierce ally and co-conspirator for justice, equity, and take learning very seriously. My digital and physical door is always open, so I encourage you to please reach out to me through the Canvas classroom, email, or by stopping by Room 311.
I can't wait to see you all this year!

Welcome Back Dear Students!
I am very excited to see each and everyone of you this coming 1st day of school, Wednesday, Sept 8. We have a lot of things in store for you so be prepared to LEARN, LOVE and SHARE Math!
Some things to consider before coming to class this Wednesday:

Remember that Chromebook is required for you to bring to class everyday along with a Math Notebook and writing materials.
Have you visited the school's website www.cmitacademy.org and read the Student Handbook for SY 21-22?
Understand, remember and familiarize yourself with the different policies at CMIT-North especially the Cellphone Policy.
So....what are you waiting for? Start the engine and expect the road to be bumpy, difficult, full of challenges and definitely a long road ahead of us.
