PBIS
|
In order to develop a positive environment that promotes strong interpersonal relationships between educators and students, CSP has implemented the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Through teaching, modeling, and encouragement, all students develop and learn social, emotional, and behavioral competence, and thus, supporting their academic engagement.
The PBIS framework includes a school-wide behavior matrix (attached) that clarifies appropriate student behaviors throughout the school building. The basis of the framework demonstrates that CSP Tigers show PRIDE throughout the day. Tigers are Prepared, are Respectful, have Integrity, celebrate Diversity, and show Excellence. Positive behavior is celebrated through the earning of Tiger PRIDE tickets and positive referrals, to include affirming interaction with students, teachers and administration.
The framework includes a weekly Advisory class in which all students participate in a group to form caring relationships and lasting friendships. These connections are forged through relationship building activities and lessons.
PBIS is not focused only on promoting positive behaviors. PBIS develops preventive supports (attached) to enhance and align with CSP's handbook and code of conduct. These supports include student/teacher reflection, parent communication, behavior intervention support through student meetings with support staff, and if needed, detention and administration intervention.
I ask that you please review and discuss the PBIS framework with your child and encourage him/her to show CSP PRIDE in his/her interaction with others.

National Bullying Prevention Month
|
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Here at CSP, we are celebrating the opportunity to offer information and education about how everyone can prevent bullying. This week our school will participate in Unity Day, where students and staff will wear orange to show our united message for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. On Friday, students and teachers will unite in a school-wide "Unity Tree" activity where each person contributes his/her own unique experiences, creative ideas, and strategies by writing positive messages on leaves that are attached to the tree. As the number of leaves increases, it creates a visual reminder, demonstrating that when "we are united we can create social change."
What can you as a parent/guardian do to help in this important effort? Attached, please find tips and information from Education.com concerning the topic of bullying prevention. You can use these strategies and supports to start a conversation with your child.
Together, we can make a difference to prevent bullying.

Parents / Guardians,
When a student misses time from school, a parent must provide a note to the appropriate person as to why the student missed school. If you prefer to send hand written notes please have your student give the note directly to Ms. June for middle school and Ms. O'Brien for high school. The student has the option to place the note directly in the mailbox if either one of us is away from our desk.
You also have the option of emailing the note and I have provided the email addresses below. Please be sure to include the following information with every note.
Student First and last name
Grade level
Date student was absent / late to school / left school early
Reason for absence / tardy / early dismissal
jcalvert@mycsp.org - middle school (office is located inside of the media center)
aobrien@mycsp.org - high school (office is located near the front desk area)
Please take a moment to look over our attendance policy in depth, so you are aware of what is considered lawful and unlawful absences.
