STEM/Maker's Faire Update for 8th Grade
Hello Families and Scholars, As expressed at the back-to-school night, STEM/Maker's Faire this year will happen as a class-based project. After learning about the Scientific Method and the Engineering process each 8th-grade cohort voted on which process they wanted to follow. I am here to officially announce that each 8th Grade class has decided to follow the Scientific Method (STEM Fair). The next step includes researching their interests in order to develop testable questions to explore. (A testable question is one that can be answered by designing and conducting an investigation. Testable questions are always about changing one thing to see what the effect is on another thing.) As always thank you for your continued support as we go through this process. Keep an eye out for the next update! Warm regards, Miss Hamilton 8th Grade Science khamilton@cmitsouth.org

Service Learning
Greetings CMIT South 9th and 10th Grade Students and Families: During our first High School Town Hall of the school year, we set an ambitious yet attainable goal that 100% of all 9th and 10th grade students will complete their required service learning hours. Service-Learning combines meaningful service to the community with curriculum-based learning. Students improve their academic skills by applying what they learn in school to the real world; they then reflect on their experience to reinforce the link between their service and their learning. The state approved service-learning graduation requirement for students is twofold: (1) 51 infused curriculum hours in grades 5-9 Science, grades 6-10 Social Studies, and (2) 24 independent hours of service (direct, indirect, or advocacy). Please refer to the following website for further information, and for virtual and in-person service learning opportunities: https://www.pgcps.org/offices/student-services/student-service-learning/student-service-learning-opportunities Best wishes to you all in completing your required hours. If you need further support, please do not hesitate to reach out to your counselor, Ms. Prince or me. Warm regards,

Dr. Howard Brent 9th/10th Grade Assistant Principal CMIT South MS/HS Charter Academy
