Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration (Sep/15-Oct/15)
Greetings, This week we started celebrating the Hispanic Heritage in the United States of America and the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers (NCHEPM) announced the 2022 Hispanic Heritage Month national theme: Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation. The theme, and also the poster, reinforce the need to ensure diverse voices and perspectives are welcomed in decision-making processes, thereby helping to build stronger communities and a stronger Nation. Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the contributions and importance of Hispanics and Latinos to the United States and those American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. The Hispanic Heritage observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100- 402.

Uniform Policy
CMIT South MS/HS is a mandatory uniform school. The complete dress code policy, with pictures, can be found at https://cmitsouth.org/uniform-policy/. All students are expected to wear their complete uniforms to school daily. In addition, students are expected to wear PE uniforms on days they have PE and oxford shirts and ties on days we have Picture Day, assemblies, field trips and any other special events. Last year, students were permitted to wear uniform tops without the school logo. That will NOT be acceptable this school year. This includes jackets, sweaters, hoodies, etc. Shoes MUST be 100% black as well. No Crocs or Yeezy's are allowed. Students are only allowed to wear spirit shirts/hoodies on identified days. Those are not every day uniform wear. We will notify both students and parents when we have spirit wear day or dress down day. We will resume our uniform checks and follow-up with our progressive discipline policy on Tuesday, September 6th.

Student Arrival and Dismissal
Thank you all for your patience as we have experimented this week, trying to find the safest and quickest way to get you in and out of the school parking lot!!! This year we will use all three lanes during dismissal. This allows us to clear the roads quicker and get more cars into the parking lot. It is imperative that you follow the directions of school staff. PLEASE PULL ALL THE WAY TO TOP BEFORE STOPPING. This allows us to get more cars in the parking lot. It is also important to have conversations with your scholars about being ready when you arrive to keep the traffic moving. When students are not paying attention it slows down the process. One suggestion is to call your scholar as you are entering the school so they are upfront and ready. Our school building opens for students at 8:20 a.m. In order to ensure your child’s safety, we ask you not to release your child from your car onto school property before 8:00 a.m. (Changed). Releasing students on the property before this time is a safety concern and will be followed up on by an administrator. Student drivers and van riders will be dismissed at 2:50pm. All other students are dismissed at 2:55pm. The location of CMIT South is not ideal and traffic can be very overwhelming for everyone. Please ensure you are following the direction of the PG County Police Officers and CMIT South Staff. Our goal is always to get your children to you as safely and quickly as possible. If patience is not a strength of yours, we have a few recommendations that will help you to avoid the traffic at dismissal: Register for our Before/After School Enrichment Program Hire Private Transportation Services Wait to pick up your scholar between 3:20-3:30 Afterschool Clubs/Sports (dismiss at 4pm)

Miss Bell's 6th Grade Art Class Update
Hello 6th Grade Families! I hope you have had an awesome week! In art class this week, students added the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to their ever growing vocabulary and will be applying them throughout the year. We will have an assessment on them next week after a review game then we will begin our very first major project of the year! Zeroes went in yesterday for any students who have not brought in a sketchbook yet. Once your student has a sketchbook, I will update their grade accordingly. Again, this is really important as this sketchbook is where the planning, notes, and small projects are completed. Think of it like a notebook for math class! If you haven't gotten one yet, the sketchbook should have BLANK paper, no Lined Paper, and be at least 7" x 10". If the paper can be "mixed media" (it should say that on the cover or packaging of the sketchbook), that would be great but it's not a necessity. If you cannot get a sketchbook I need to know, so we can get one for your student. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me via email. Have a great weekend!
