GENERAL NEWS
Saturday Academy Begins November 6
Please make sure that your child brings his/her device to work. Also, make sure your child knows what they need assistance with when they arrive. Dear Parents/Guardians, As a part of making sure, we at CMIT South do the very best to provide students with as many opportunities to improve their educational experience. We want to offer an optional small group setting to assist our students during Saturday Academy in our core classes of English and math. In these sessions, students can ask to receive additional help. We will help with homework and provide additional skills practice in the areas of RELA and Math. Our primary focus is on math and RELA, but we will try to help in the areas of science and social studies. Of Course, COVID-19 protocols are still in place. Students will need to wear their masks at all times. They will need to continue to Social Distance. If your child is out for quarantine this is extended to Saturday Academy. Lastly, if your child is not feeling well please do not send them to Saturday Academy. If you decide to take this optional opportunity, it begins Saturday, November 6. We offer two sessions each Saturday. Session 1 is from 9:00 am -10:30 am and Session 2 10:40-12:30. You can decide which session fits your schedule best. If you choose to send your child, registering is very simple. Drop your child off at the designated location. This location is the doors located before you get to the middle school ramp. Drop-off and pick-up will use the same doors. A sign will be posted on the door to indicate that you are at the right location. There will be a weekly sign-in sheet each Saturday. Allowing me to keep track of which subject your child wants assistance with each week. Your child can participate in both sessions. If you decide that you want your child to do both sessions to receive help in English and math. Please provide them with a snack to eat if possible. It is imperative that you pick up your child on time! Failure to do so will result in your child not being allowed to continue attending these free sessions. We look forward to seeing you on Saturdays. The registration form is below. https://forms.gle/k3KGyFAV5HeXR8Ra9

DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
We understand and share in the frustration with the traffic flow during dismissal. As those on the frontline, we want dismissal to occur as safely and efficiently as possible. A large part falls on our parent community for support. Law enforcement has been instructed to ticket and clear out any cars that are breaking laws such as parking in no parking zones and making unlawful U-turns. This is a safety concern for our students and aiding in the traffic build up. Every parent/guardian or transportation aid is expected to follow the dismissal procedures which includes entering the school's parking lot and exiting through the identified alley. * Please be kind and compliant to the staff members and volunteers directing traffic. * Do not park in the alley exiting the property. It is causing too close of contact with students and moving cars. There are “No Parking” signs present. * Do not park on Fallard Drive or Fallard Ct and instruct your scholars to meet you down the street. That is also aiding in the traffic build up and students crossing the streets unsafely. There are “No Parking” signs present. Violators will be ticketed. * Refrain from making unlawful U-turns. * Do not park in the parking lots of our neighboring businesses. We are continuously working for greater partnership and consistency with law enforcement to help the flow of traffic. Thank you in advance for your patience and compliance with our dismissal procedures. Please continue to set good examples for our students regarding following the rules, even when we don't like/agree with them.

Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship
I want to share some important information about a scholarship that could greatly impact your students. The Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship offers students up to $5,000 annually to attend a community college. The Maryland Higher Education Commission’s (MHEC) Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) administers the scholarship program. The Promise Scholarship is a last-dollar award for students who enroll in one of the following programs: vocational certificate (credit-bearing); certificate; associate degree; licensure or certification (credit or non-credit courses); or registered apprenticeship program at a Maryland community college. To be eligible, high school seniors must have an unweighted 2.3 cumulative GPA at the end of the first semester of their senior year in high school or by the end of their senior year in high school. The annual family adjusted gross income requirements are: $100,000 if the applicant is single or resides in a single-parent household; or $150,000 if the applicant is married or resides in a two-parent household. Students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a Maryland State Financial Aid Application (MSFAA) by March 1 each year. The MSFAA is the state application for students ineligible for federal aid but eligible for in-state tuition. Students must attend the community college in their county. When it is a regional community college, the students attend the college in his or her region. If the community college in the student’s county or region does not offer their study program, they may attend a community college outside of their county or area. It is important to note that students who enroll in credit-bearing vocational certificates, certificates, and associate degree programs must take 12 credit hours per semester. Additionally, students who enroll in a sequence of credit or non-credit licensure and certification courses must take the next available course offered in their course sequence. We hope you will share the attached flyer, which provides easy access to the scholarship information, with your students and their families. For more detailed information, go to https://mhec.maryland.gov/preparing/Pages/FinancialAid/ProgramDescriptions/prog_MDCommunityCollegePromiseScholarship.aspx If you have any questions, please contact OSFA at osfamail.mhec@maryland.gov.
