National Junior Honors Society Induction
|
On Friday May 25, 2018, scholars from CMIT South were inducted into the Alpha Chapter of National Junior Honors Society. Successful students are those who are not only on Honor Roll, but are also able to demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.
Five main purposes have guided chapters of NJHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter. CMIT South congratulates all inductees. We look forward to the greatness we are sure they will demonstrate.

ASPIRE High School Mentoring Program
|
ASPIRE High School Mentoring Program
The ASPIRE program at APL is the opportunity for juniors and seniors in high school to get hands-on experience in STEM and to explore career opportunities before committing to an area of study in college. The ASPIRE program is a learning experience that exposes students to the real-world applications of what they are learning in school as well as to what it is like to work in a professional environment.
The ideal ASPIRE student is successful in their science and math classes—either AP courses or on-grade-level classes. The ideal student for the program is curious, committed, and ready to explore the many possibilities STEM provides. ASPIRE students need to be able to work independently, to persist when faced with challenges, and to communicate well with mentors and other staff as necessary.
If you are ready to explore STEM at APL and you meet the minimum requirements, please read the application instructions below and join us for a STEM adventure.
ASPIRE is a competitive program. Applying does not guarantee acceptance.

Last Day of School for Students
|
The Prince George’s County Board of Education voted on 04/24/2018 to extend the school year by three days to make up instructional time lost to inclement weather. All students are expected to report daily to school until the last day of school - June 20. Maryland elected officials recently passed emergency legislation that enables school districts to add up to five days beyond the state-mandated last day for students (June 15) to make up for days lost due to inclement weather. The last day of school for students will now be Wednesday, June 20. There will be a two-hour early dismissal on June 19 and June 20. For more information, visit www.pgcps.org/school-calendar-process.

ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS
|

Stay the Course...
|
Greetings Parents,
As the end of the year approaches, students become overly excited to see that summer is in their sight. They begin to focus totally on how many days are left in school, the family vacations that have been planned, and having the social freedom to indulge in the pleasantries that come with the season. However, please speak to your youngsters, as the show is not over. Finals and projects are due and their performance on such assessments can drastically affect their grades. Too often, during this time of year, students begin to relax, become more social and start pushing the envelope by acting other than themselves. Let this serve as a friendly reminder to stay the course, as the greatest results come through mere perseverance.

Mr. Wassam Biology Project
|
Hello all!
Just a reminder, students have a project due for me June 1st! All of the details are in the folder section of Edmodo under Biology Final Project. THIS IS NOT THE FINAL, it is just the last big project of the year. Students need your help since they are researching their family DNA and traits. I would also like to point out a "best guess" is possible when needed. Sample data is also in the folders section.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions!
