Softball 2022 General Interst Meeting via Zoom 12/16/21 7:30pm
|
CMIT Softball 2022 will have a general interest meeting on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 7:30 pm via Zoom. The meeting is NOT mandatory and only serves to welcome prospective and former players to the upcoming 2022 season. In the years past, we have had at least one in-person meeting before the softball start date of March 1st, so we will have an opportunity to meet face to face before the season starts. I will ask that your cameras be "on" when we meet next week so that I may be able to put names to faces and feel free to join the call whether you have played softball in the past or not. The Zoom call information is below and I look forward to seeing you on Thursday!
Best,
Coach Donelson

Algebra 1 Collaborative Zoom Meeting
|
In our effort to help students pass Algebra 1 with flying colors, CMIT Tutoring & Academic Services, and Algebra 1 teachers invite Algebra 1 students to a Zoom collaborative meeting on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at 6:30 pm. An e-mail was sent to all parents concerned last weekend.
In this meeting, we will be speaking about best practices that will help improve Algebra 1's academic skills. As the parent or guardian of these students, you are highly advised to attend the meeting to discuss enrichment, intervention, strategies, and issues interfering with students' learning and growth. In addition, algebra one teachers would like to listen to how we can best help our students and how you can best help us facilitate their learning in this course. Algebra is the essential math to survive all other Math courses that our students will conquer in the future.
Please fill out the link to register to join the meeting.

Bullying Prevention Poetry Contest
|
As part of our bullying prevention efforts, we want everyone to reflect on why bullying is a problem and, more importantly, how we can prevent it. To do that, we want all our students to compose a poem that answers those two questions. The Bullying Prevention Poetry Contest will take place from today December 10 until Thursday December 23. The rubric will be provided in students' English classes, and flyers have been posted around the building. The winners of the contest will get a Chik-fil-a lunch. Two sample poems were read by one of our student leaders--one composed by Mr. Conde and one composed by a student--that explore the idea of the problem of bullying and how to solve it. The key point in both poems is that our minds direct our actions, and our actions determine our culture. The poems attempt to empower students at CMIT to choose whether they want to perpetuate long-standing, antiquated, wrong thinking that has been the basis for so many of the problems in our past, or to change our thinking to be more positive and inclusive to positively impact our future and our school culture.
Parents, please encourage students to compose a poem that is thoughtful and encouraging. Being positive and fostering healthy relationships with peers is the norm at CMIT Academy, and we would like for parents to partner with us to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for all our students. We hope that the bullying prevention poetry competition will allow our students to reflect on why and how to behave with authentic care and positive character towards one another.

WRIGHT STUFF - 1ST FLIGHT
|
During the week the students made good progress with the plane.
The wing was covered and tip plates were added and aligned.
The plane was balanced with a 5" red propeller and 1.5 grams of 3/32 rubber.
Glide tests in the hall were successful. The plane has a floating glide and a gentle left turn.
Preliminary flights under low power in the media room showed a slow climb and a wide left turn.
The plane is now ready for testing in the gym under higher power. A 9" Irara prop is available and is better suited for long-duration flights than the red 5" prop.
In the coming week, the plane will be weighed, a log established, the use of a torque meter examined and the plane tested under higher power in the gym with two different propellors.
