Thursday morning, candidates in the running for student government offices presented their speeches to their peers in the hope of being elected. Graduating Senior Dues Packages
As a reminder, all 12th grade students should have completed the process of selecting their graduating packages. If you have not done so and can't locate your email instructions, please email Classof2019@cmitnorthpto.org. NOTE: Invoices will be sent by September 21, 2018, and the first payment is due on October 26, 2018.

PARCC Score Reports
All students should have received their PARCC score reports from last school year from their current English teacher. If they have not received their reports, please speak with their English teacher. Only students who tested (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, ELA10 and ELA11) last year will receive a report. Attached are documents to help you understand how to read the reports.

National Honor Society Tutoring to Begin Monday, September 17th
The members of National Honor Society will begin their free walk-in tutoring on Mondays from 3:00pm - 4:00pm in the Media Center. Only students receiving tutoring services are permitted to stay during this time. Currently, the members are able to provide tutoring services in the following topics: English 9 English 10 English 11 Biology Chemistry AP Biology US History Government World History Algebra 1 Geometry Algebra Pre-Calculus AP Calculus Spanish 1 Spanish 2 If there is another subject in which your student would like tutoring, please reach out to Ms. Gaudette and she will see if arrangements can be made.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
New School Year for High School Science
The 2018-2019 academic year is starting great for the Science Department. - We are fortunate to have added Mr. Nuri Bayrum as our STEM and Environmental Science teacher. - Ms. Smith teaches Biology and 1 Forensic Science section - Ms. Coholic is our Biogeochemical Systems teacher with 1 section of Physics, and - I, Ms. Cline, still teach Advanced Placement Biology. This year, I teach Honors Chemistry and Senior College Summit. This is quite fitting as I continue to serve as Academic Advisor for the Class of 2019. Daily success, achievement and respect are being experienced throughout our school. This is only the beginning. My prediction is that this trend will exude throughout the year. It is good to welcome our students back to school and to work with families and the entire school community for the joy of our returning to continue. The Science Departments invites us all to “Have a great school year!” Please, feel free to share your needs, challenges and successes as our marvelous year continues.

Materials Needed for Ms. Cline's Science Classes
As we rejoice in our return to preparing our students for a new academic year leading to skills necessary for fulfilling lifelong career aspirations, we have a few material requests to ease the transition and continue to make safety in the lab our top priority. For AP Biology and Honors Chemistry classes, I am asking that students provided the following materials: - gloves - goggles Additional, materials request may be forthcoming. National Honor Society Applications Open Monday
Hello CMIT Family, The members of the National Honor Society would like to invite qualifying 11th and 12th grade students to apply for membership. The application will be emailed out to all 11th and 12th grade students on Monday. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA, meet minimum Service Hours requirements (10 hours for 11th grade applicants and 24 hours for 12th grade applicants), and must be able to depict involvement in service, leadership, and extracurricular activities. Tenth grade students will be invited to apply in our Spring Application Cycle in March. The application, which explains all required components and guidelines for submission, will be due on Friday, September 28th. Don't Be a Pawn in the Game of Life: Join CMIT North's Winning Chess Team!
Chess is a powerful tool for developing high order thinking skills, creativity, and memory, and is proven to reduce stress and help increase concentration in studies. CMIT's Chess Club has won over 50 team trophies since 2011, and players have won numerous individual trophies as well. There are opportunities to play in local/regional/national chess tournaments and receive SCHOLARSHIPS towards college. JOIN NOW! - Chess club is open to scholars in Middle School and High School - Chess club meets on Wednesdays from 3-4:30pm, location TBD (usually meets at middle school, unless we have greater demand at the high school) - Chess Club meets for 3 sessions throughout the year (usually 8-10 classes per session at a cost of $15 per class) To join or receive additional information, contact: - Trina Brown, Parent Chess Coordinator at tdbrown91@gmail.com - Coach William Morrison, M. Back-to-School Night (Science Department)
It was a pleasure for each member of the Science Department to meet parents able to attend the Back-to-School Night last Thursday. We are always happy to see from where our awesome students come. Parents who were not able to come Thursday night may be able to schedule appointments for Parent-Teacher conferences. Dates and times will be forwarded in a timely fashion. Thank you for sending us your best as we in Science truly enjoy educating the whole child....and this is true for each of our students. We appreciate your support as you round out our School Community.

HS UPCOMING EVENTS
Hampton University On-Site Admissions / Presentation 9/18
On Tuesday, September 18th, the Admissions Representative for Hampton University will be coming to CMIT's Media Center to do a presentation for 11th and 12th grade students during 4th period lunch (11th and 12th grade lunch). All 11th and 12th grade students who are interested in Hampton are invited to attend but must pick up a pass on Monday or Tuesday prior to the event in order to attend. The Admissions Representative will first do a presentation and then do on-site admissions for seniors only. Seniors interested in participating in on-site admissions must bring the following: - $50 Application Fee - Official Transcript (A transcript request form must be submitted to Ms. Gaudette by Monday. See attached form.) - Completed Online Application (Students must bring a printed copy of their signature page from the application.) - 1 Letter of Recommendation - Essay from their Application - SAT / ACT Score Report (Official Reports may be printed from the students' College Board / ACT accounts)

Johns Hopkins University Presentation 9/20
