BREAKING NEWS
New School Hours

Please take note of school the school hours below:

High School
7:50am - Student Arrival and Drop Off
2:45pm - Student Dismissal and Pick Up

Middle School
8:05am - Student Arrival and Drop Off
2:55pm - Student Dismissal and Pick Up

Elementary School
7:35 am - Student Arrival and Drop Off
2:25 pm - Student Dismissal and Pick Up

These changes were made after consulting with the other CMIT North schools, the CMIT North PTO, and the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation. The new schedule will best allow parents, buses, and carpools to drop off students at all school locations without the concern of tardiness. Due to the opening of the new high school the staggered start times were necessary. We understand that the change may cause some difficulties for some families, however, this schedule meets the needs of the majority of stakeholders.

MS BREAKING NEWS
Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures
Welcome back to CMIT!

As we prepare for the start of a new year, our goal is to do so safely starting with drop-off and pick-up from the very first day. Please prepare yourselves to follow the directions of the staff carefully, and keep the following in mind during arrival and dismissal.

In the mornings, students can be dropped off at the cafeteria doors beginning at 8:05 am and no sooner. There will be no stopping in any of the lanes behind the school. Please help your student be prepared to exit the car quickly, and pull away immediately after your student is a safe distance away. Just like last year, we will not have a waiting lane.

ALL students will enter through the cafeteria doors until 8:25 am. Students must make it to class by 8:25 am, or they will be marked tardy in SchoolMax.

Students who arrive at 8:25 am or later must enter through the front office to sign-in. At this point, students will be marked tardy in SchoolMax and will need a late pass from the front office to enter their classrooms. Remember, traffic is not an excused tardy. Plan your travel accordingly.

Students who wish to eat breakfast should get it upon arrival in the cafeteria prior to going to their lockers and classrooms. Tardy students may not receive breakfast.

Afternoon pick up will also be through the cafeteria doors only. Parents can begin arriving at 2:40 pm and no sooner.

All students should be picked up by 3:05 pm. Students still waiting on transportation will need to remain in the back pick-up area until their ride arrives. Any student who is not involved in an after-school activity, and is still on the premises after 3:15 p.m. will report to the Daily Enrichment Program. The fee for the Daily Enrichment Program is $20.

During the hours of 7:30 am to 8:30 am and 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm, traffic is one way. All cars must enter in front of the building and exit by going around the building. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Thank you for your cooperation to make this year safe for our students!

Assistant Principal's Message
Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! I am truly honored to continue to serve you in the Assistant Principal role and look forward to continuing my work with our school community in our efforts to do whatever it takes to advance the achievement of all students on our campus. Working together, I am confident that we will continue to provide our students with a truly rigorous and enriching school experience. CMIT is a special and unique community of which I am very proud to be a part of.

As an Assistant Principal at CMIT, my main goal is to provide rigorous academic opportunities for our students. I will primarily be response for our college related programs, Advanced Placement program, extra curriculum activities, and PTO/community projects. My goal as Assistant Principal is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment that is safe and respectable, in order for your child to receive the best possible academic instruction.
I am sure that our school will continue to be a place where our students can learn and grow academically and socially.

Feel free to stop by and say hello. I will be in room 157. If there is anything I can assist you with, please let me know.

Respectfully,

Ferhat Avsar

Welcome to CMIT High School from Ms. Colandrea
It is with great eagerness that I am returning for my sixth year at CMIT Academy. I am excited to reunite with families who have been a part of our community and equally enthusiastic about welcoming new ones. We are building on the success of our first year as a complete high school, and I see so many opportunities to make this year a phenomenal one in collaboration with the entire CMIT community. The work our parents, students, and staff put in over the past several days to prepare the new building for use is a perfect example of how much we can accomplish when we work as a team. I am encouraged and grateful.

I will be carrying on with many of the same duties as last year with some changes. This year, my duties will focus primarily on the ITEC program, the home visit program, special education and 504s, field trips, and student relations (including discipline in conjunction with Mr. Avsar).

Our administrative team has already begun meeting with the PTO to make sure your voices are heard. If you are not currently involved, please join. We certainly are unable to accomplish what we do as a school without your support. Respectful discourse about how we can increase student success and further develop students who are ready to embrace life after graduation are always welcome.

One way you can begin working with us is to make sure your student is ready for school each day. Please review school policies with students and help them to be prepared and focused. This makes CMIT a safer, more supportive environment for everyone and allows our teachers to focus more wholly on meeting the academic needs of the entire class.

It is going to be a great year. I look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night on September 13th.

Respectfully,

Tammy Colandrea

Traffic Flow Around the High School Building
Dear CMIT Families,

In order to make drop-off and pick-up as seamless as possible, we have created a plan to address traffic. Please look at the pictures above to better understand the traffic flow around our high school building. There will be one-way traffic around the school for students drop-off and pick-up. During these times, it will not be possible to make a left turn when leaving the parking lot. Make plans accordingly.

Drop-off time: 7:50am - 8:04am
Pick-up time: 2:45pm - 3:00pm

Students who arrive after 8:04am will need to enter through the front office to get a late pass to enter class.

Update on Parking for HS Seniors & Juniors
Hello, CMIT Families:

While the new building is in good working order, we are still putting finishing touches on the parking lot. At least for the first day of school, all students who have requested parking should park in the middle school student parking lot (to the left when facing the middle school building) and walk to the high school via Sweitzer Lane. We will begin passing out passes as soon as possible.

Students seeking parking passes MUST submit a completed application with parent/guardian signatures as well as proof of driver's license (student) and registration and insurance for each vehicle the student might drive. The application is attached. Students can upload all materials to the Google Classroom that has been created or (as a last resort) email them to Ms. Colandrea. (Look for follow-up information via email.)

Class of 2018…..Introducing Your Peer Leaders!!!

If you could describe a College Summit Peer Leader in three words, they would be innovative, dedicated, and influential. Four students, Sydney Baucum, Hannah Browne, Tristan Hayes and Lauryn Simenton, have displayed these qualities and many more resulting in them becoming this year's Peer Leaders. Additionally, Peer Leaders create a college going culture throughout the school and ensure that students have a solid plan after high school.

As a result, the Peer Leaders created three campaign goals for students:
1. Students must complete three or more college applications to the best of their ability.
2. Students must complete early filing for FAFSA (Federal Student Aid).
3. Students must have a correlation between their academics and their careers.

To complete these goals, the four students participated in a four-day College Summit Peer Leader Program training them to assist their peers in the college process. Moreover, CMIT is providing a College Summit class with every Peer Leader as a guide to help seniors with college essays, teacher recommendations, and so much more.

We look forward to working with the Class of 2018!

Sincerely,
Your Peer Leaders
