Attention 6th Grade Parents
Hello Parents of 6th Graders, We have a change in our foreign language sequence that we want to tell you about. Next year, some current 6th grade students will take Spanish 1A, and in 8th grade, they will take Spanish 1B. At the end of 8th grade, they will receive 1.0 credit for Spanish 1. In 9th grade, they will take Spanish 2, and they will continue on to Spanish 3 and 4, if the master schedule allows it. Next year, other current 6th grade students will take Turkish 1, and in 8th grade they will take Turkish 2. They will receive 1.0 credit for each year of Turkish. In 9th grade, they can continue on to Turkish 3, or they can decide to take Spanish 1. The benefit of this is that they will already have the foreign language graduation requirement completed with the two years of Turkish, and it will take only one year to earn credit in Spanish 1, if they choose to take it. Also, they still can take four years of Spanish in high school. As the scheduling process unfolds, we will update you with which students will be taking which foreign language next year. We have not offered Spanish 1 to high school students before, and we are excited to offer our students more choices in high school. Thank you for your support.

Early College Program
After careful consideration by school staff, invitations have been sent to current 8th graders for next year’s Early College Program. We considered not only academic ability, but work ethic, social maturity, behavior, attitude, responsibility, and other factors to choose who to invite. We will see who accepts the invitation, and we may invite some students on the wait list after that. We want our students to do well in this program, so please know that invitations were sent to students based on more than simply which classes they are currently taking. We know that some students will be disappointed by not receiving an invitation but we want to do what we feel is best for our students, and we feel that we have chosen the correct students to invite. Thank you for your support.

March Madness Fundraising
March Madness is upon us with the NCAA tournament beginning to 2 weeks. Many students have been asking about hosting a school basketball tournament. In late March, we will be hosting a 3 v. 3 basketball tournament open to all students. Students will form teams of 5 to play in this tournament. The cost is $10 per team and the tournament champion will face a team of teachers to determine the true CSP champion. Teams may only have 1 current varsity basketball player. Any student interested in the tournament should see me for more information. We are looking forward to raising funds for CSP through this tournament.

Repeat Free School
CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to be become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation.

AACC Dual Credit
Any student who wishes to receive high school credit for any dual credit AACC class they have taken must present an official transcript from AACC to Dr Gonzalez. The Registrar’s Office at AACC can assist you with that. (NOTE: The computer class that 9th graders took this fall is not a dual credit class, so no transcript is needed.)

College Acceptances
CSP seniors have done a great job! They have received acceptance offers from many colleges. Remember, many colleges have “Rolling Admissions,” which allows seniors to submit their applications any time within a certain timeframe, and decisions are made as students apply, rather than waiting for the deadline. Seniors should complete the application process ASAP. So far, CSP students have received acceptance letters from: Albright College University of Arizona Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Florida Institute of Technology Hampden-Sydney College Harrisburg University of Science and Technology Hofstra University Hood College Ithaca College Johnson & Wales University Juniata College Keiser University Keystone College Liberty University University of Maryland, Baltimore County University of Maryland, College Park McDaniel College Mt St Mary’s University Penn State University Robert Morris University Rutgers University Salisbury University St John’s College Stevenson University Towson University University of New Haven Washington College West Virginia University
