CSP's Geography Bee Champion!

This week CSP middle schoolers duked it out to determine this year's National Geographic Geography Bee Champion. Using a challenging elimination test, the following geographically-gifted students earned a spot in CSP's Geography Bee Final Round:

Jack Everson
Ellie Fahey
Rafee Mirza
Dhruva Kothari
Divya Vydhianathan
Dominic Alfinito
Joseph Smotherman
Rishi Erigineni
Hannah Sullivan
Akash Prasad

On Wednesday afternoon, the finalists competed in an exciting showdown, showing off their wealth of knowledge. Dhruva Kothari earned the third place spot, and, after many overtime questions, Divya Vydhianathan earned the runner-up spot, while Rishi Erigineni won the title of CSP National Geographic Geography Bee Champion. Rishi will take a qualifying test to enter the State Bee. Good luck to Rishi as he continues on his Geography Bee journey and congratulations to all our finalists. You are amazing!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Ingulia

Uniforms and Cell Phone Use
Parents,

We are seeking your support with enforcing the cell phone and uniform policies. In an effort to streamline the communication between the staff and parents about these infractions, we will be using tiger points. Tigers points is a digital "demerit system" that helps you monitor the "points" your students accumulate at school. Teachers and administrators will use the system to input the points that your student may receive. The system sends a weekly email on Fridays, but you can also log into the system to view points that your student may receive. We at CSP appreciate your continued support.
Directions on how to access your account are below:
1. Go to https://prs.clfportal.org/
2. Select "Parent Retrieve Password"
3. Enter your email address
4. A password will be emailed to you and you will be able to log into the system.

SCHOOL NEWS
From FTC to Seaperch
Our robotics team had a great showing in their final competition. They were one place away from qualifying for state. In the last match of the day, they were bumped down slightly from 5th place and unfortunately did not qualify for state. The team learned a lot and will certainly be ready for next year. With FTC concluding, we now move on to seaperch. This year's competition is very difficult, but the team has many ideas they will be testing to succeed. The goal is to make it to nationals in Georgia this year and this goal is very attainable. Here is a link to the seaperch competition http://www.seaperch.org/index.

Repeat Free School

CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to be become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation.

AACC Dual Credit

Any student who wishes to receive high school credit for any dual credit AACC class they have taken must present an official transcript from AACC to Dr Gonzalez. The Registrar’s Office at AACC can assist you with that. (NOTE: The computer class that 9th graders took this fall is not a dual credit class, so no transcript is needed.)

CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS
Vocabulary Bowl Standings!
CSP is currently participating in the Vocabulary Bowl, a contest sponsored by vocabulary.com. All students are eligible to participate in this online contest, and currently, over 100 6th and 11th graders have worked together to propel CSP through the rankings.

As you read this, CSP sits at 5th place for MD high schools and 12th for MD schools overall; this is significant because CSP only entered the contest one week ago (the contest began in October and runs through April).

All current CSP students are encouraged to participate and master vocabulary words, which may help them in class or better prepare them for tests such as the SAT.

Please contact Mr. Mullen at gmullen@mycsp.org for additional information, and please be sure to congratulate participating students on a job well done!

6th graders building fluency
Mrs. Stinson's 6th grade class has been working on building fluency using a new program that helps build speed and accuracy. Students are excited about this and love the new program. Many students are racing to room 108 to be on the computer before school (the picture above was taken at 8:10am)... Many others are going during lunch and recess.
It is a joy to work with students who are so excited about their math!
