HS Science Olympiad Regional Competition
A huge congratulations goes out to the Science Olympiad HS team, who this past weekend competed in the Montgomery College Regional Competition. The team worked hard all semester to study, design and build for 24 science events. The team placed in the top 6 in 8 of the events for our league and was the 9th out of 16 Varsity teams. Which is high enough to make it to the State Competition on Saturday April 2nd at Johns Hopkins University.

Repeat-Free School
Hi CSP Parents, Please see below regarding details on Chesapeake Science Point's NO REPEAT policy. If you have questions and/or concerns regarding this matter, please reach out to your child's school counselor. CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation and the student will have to take classes at CSP for more than four years.

Early Dismissal / Late Arrival days
There are several two-hour early dismissals and late arrival days worked into the calendar this year. On two-hour early dismissal days, all car riders will exit the school building no later than 1:05 pm. Parents must pick their children up on time as there will be no supervision outside. The two-hour early dismissals are typically planned so that staff can participate in professional development. On two-hour late arrival days, all car riders are to be dropped off between 10:00-10:15 am. Students are to be in class in their seats and ready to start the day at 10:20 am. There is a copy of the two-hour late arrival and early dismissal schedules attached for your reference.

Visitors Must Have Appointment
Given that we remain in a pandemic and our focus must be on the instruction of our students, visitors to our school will be permitted only on a limited basis and only by appointment. We ask that families and community members work with us to help fulfill our main goal: to keep the school open and fully functioning in the safest manner possible throughout the school year. ● If you need to schedule an appointment and are unsure whom to contact, please email Ms. Obrien AOBRIEN@MYCSP.ORG, and she will assist you. As much as we miss you all visiting the building, we are unable to honor that request at this time. ● If you are visiting the building, you must park in a parking space. Please do not park on the curb outside the main entrance.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy - Deadline February 28
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), one of the five federal service academies that include West Point, Annapolis, Air Force, and Coast Guard academies, has extended the deadline to complete applications for the Class of 2026 to Feb. 28. Federal service academies are not for everyone but we encourage those students looking to serve their country and accept a demanding academic schedule to complete their application before Feb 28. Like all federal service academies, there is no application fee for USMMA. Our rigorous four-year academic program is highlighted by the Academy’s Sea Year experience. Through this unique program, every student gains real-world leadership experience working aboard commercial ships sailing to ports around the world during three academic terms. Our students pursue a degree in one of five majors offered through two Academic Departments: Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation. Students receive full tuition, room and board, and books at no cost. I have also included our latest digital View Book. It highlights Midshipman life, sports, sailing, academic programs and majors, the unique year at sea training, and more. Please share this with your students interested in a unique educational opportunity at a federal service academy. Graduates of the United States Merchant Marine Academy earn a Bachelor of Science degree, a U.S. Coast Guard license, and a commission in the United States Armed Forces. Our graduates have an option to work as ship’s officers in the United States maritime industry or serve as commissioned officers on active duty in any branch of service. SAT/ACT TESTING DATES
Hi Juniors & Seniors! It’s no secret that most college applications require you to submit your SAT or ACT score, making taking the exam an absolute must. In addition to it being a requirement, colleges and universities receive thousands of applications every year. The scores on the SAT and ACT allow them to narrow down the playing field and make decisions on acceptance. In addition to your college applications, your SAT and ACT scores can be used to apply for scholarships. These are sometimes merit based scholarships, granted directly from your choice of college during the application process. Others may be from local, state, or regional programs where your grades, academic achievements, and score affect your eligibility. We wanted to stress the importance of taking the SAT and/or ACT more than once. Studies show that students typically receive a higher score the second time they sit for the test. It would be most beneficial to take the SAT and/or ACT your junior year, then again your senior year. If you receive free or reduced lunch, you qualify for a fee waiver. The counselors have them available in their offices. Please see attachment for 2021-22 testing dates. You may register for the SAT on collegeboard.org. See your counselor with any additional questions.

Boston University Summer Journalism Academy
For those who are thinking about a career in communications or enjoy writing, we have just the thing: the Boston University Summer Journalism Academy, hosted by BU’s College of Communication. For 13 years, our program has taught high school students core skills in news reporting, interviewing, and writing, while focusing on hands-on experience in and around Boston and their home communities. Taught by award-winning working journalists such as Pulitzer Prize winner Lara Salahi , students learn how to follow facts and get to the heart of stories affecting communities. Students are challenged to step outside their comfort zone and experience life as a working journalist. In the past, our students spoke with policymakers, reported from a massive immigration march, and highlighted issues affecting teens during the pandemic. They learned how to interview strangers, ask probing questions, and assemble information in a concise story with a deadline. Students learn practical skills over each two-week session, but they also get a taste of how a newsroom operates. For students living on-campus, they have the opportunity to: Meet with Boston University's representative to discuss the college admissions process Explore what it's like living in a residence hall and studying in a university environment Experience Boston museums, historical sites, and neighborhoods during free time Two-week sessions begin on June 20, July 4, and July 18. Students decide if they would like to attend our in-person or virtual programs. They also have the option to participate in our writing and reporting program, photojournalism program, or both. If you are accepted to our program and pay the registration fee by March 31, you will receive a special discount of $400 off the in-person tuition (EARLYCAMPUS22) and $200 off tuition for our virtual program (EARLYRLFH22).

Please email acceptance status letters (accepted or declined) and any scholarship/financial aid letters. Your counselor needs to know this information for all colleges to which you applied. We understand that this is an ongoing process, so please check in regularly as changes occur. If you are applying to additional colleges, please inform your counselor so she can make sure that all supplemental documents are sent in a timely manner. This is an exciting time, and we are honored to share this journey with you!
