Visitors Must Have Appointment
Given that we remain in a pandemic and our focus must be on the instruction of our students, visitors to our school will be permitted only on a limited basis and only by appointment. We ask that families and community members work with us to help fulfill our main goal: to keep the school open and fully functioning in the safest manner possible throughout the school year. ● If you need to schedule an appointment and are unsure whom to contact, please email Ms. Obrien AOBRIEN@MYCSP.ORG, and she will assist you. As much as we miss you all visiting the building, we are unable to honor that request at this time. ● If you are visiting the building, you must park in a parking space. Please do not park on the curb outside the main entrance.

Early Dismissal / Late Arrival days
There are several two-hour early dismissals and late arrival days worked into the calendar this year. On two-hour early dismissal days, all car riders will exit the school building no later than 1:05 pm. Parents must pick their children up on time as there will be no supervision outside. The two-hour early dismissals are typically planned so that staff can participate in professional development. On two-hour late arrival days, all car riders are to be dropped off between 10:00-10:15 am. Students are to be in class in their seats and ready to start the day at 10:20 am. There is a copy of the two-hour late arrival and early dismissal schedules attached for your reference.

Repeat-Free School
Hi CSP Parents, Please see below regarding details on Chesapeake Science Point's NO REPEAT policy. If you have questions and/or concerns regarding this matter, please reach out to your child's school counselor. CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation and the student will have to take classes at CSP for more than four years.

SAT/ACT TESTING DATES
Hi Juniors & Seniors! It’s no secret that most college applications require you to submit your SAT or ACT score, making taking the exam an absolute must. In addition to it being a requirement, colleges and universities receive thousands of applications every year. The scores on the SAT and ACT allow them to narrow down the playing field and make decisions on acceptance. In addition to your college applications, your SAT and ACT scores can be used to apply for scholarships. These are sometimes merit based scholarships, granted directly from your choice of college during the application process. Others may be from local, state, or regional programs where your grades, academic achievements, and score affect your eligibility. We wanted to stress the importance of taking the SAT and/or ACT more than once. Studies show that students typically receive a higher score the second time they sit for the test. It would be most beneficial to take the SAT and/or ACT your junior year, then again your senior year. If you receive free or reduced lunch, you qualify for a fee waiver. The counselors have them available in their offices. Please see attachment for 2021-22 testing dates. You may register for the SAT on collegeboard.org. See your counselor with any additional questions.

The PSAT-10 on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, to 10th grade students

Dear Parent or Guardian,

CSP will administer the PSAT-10 on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, to 10th-grade students. PSAT-10 establishes a baseline for college and career readiness.

The PSAT supports all students with early feedback on the skills and knowledge that matter most for college and career success. The score reports will give students comprehensive, personalized feedback on test performance, allowing students to see which questions were answered incorrectly and which academic skills they should work to improve.

The test will be administered during the 1st period through the 3rd period. Students will report to scheduled classes after the test.

If you have questions regarding the test, please contact Mr. Yagar directly at tyagar@mycsp.org.

If you would like more information about the test, please visit https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-10">https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-10

The SAT on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, to 11th-grade students.

Dear Parent or Guardian,

CSP will administer the SAT on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, to 11th-grade students.

The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The SAT is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test created and administered by the College Board. The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student's readiness for college and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants.

Students are not required to register for the SAT. In the past, students would register using their College Board accounts. Again, that is not required for this administration of the SAT.

The test will be administered during the 1st period through the 3rd period. Students will report to scheduled classes after the test.

If you have questions regarding the test, please contact Mr. Yagar directly at tyagar@mycsp.org.

If you would like more information about the test, please visit https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat">https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
8th Grade News
Attention eighth grade parents/guardians: Chesapeake Science Point and Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) have a partnership for the Early College Access Program (ECAP), allowing students to take college courses while in high school. CSP also has a unique partnership where selected students work toward a college Associate Degree throughout high school, earning 60 college credits through AACC classes and AP credits. Candidates for this very selective program are considered during the spring of students’ eighth grade year at CSP. Administrators, counselors, and teachers review student data and discuss individual student ability to complete college level and AP courses. AACC requires a strict limit of 22 students for this program, making it extremely selective. The selection procedures will begin in February and parent contact will take place once the review process is completed. Students and families do not need to request consideration for this program, all eighth-grade students will be reviewed and considered for the Associate Degree program. Students who are not chosen for the selective Associate Degree program are still eligible to take individual AACC courses through the ECAP program. These opportunities are usually possible in students’ junior and senior years.
