"The Upstanders" documentary - October 11
CSP families: CSP, and the entire Anne Arundel school system, will be hosting a quarterly documentary series regarding mental health topics that are impacting adolescents. The first screening will be “The Upstanders,” which explores all sides of cyber-bullying, from bully to victim, bystanders, and family members. Social media’s power means that bullying is now a 24/7 phenomenon and this documentary shows that we are all needed to eradicate cyber-bullying. It gives bystanders the confidence and tools to become “Upstanders,” and help change the narrative. The screening of “The Upstanders” will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 11. It will be followed by a prerecorded discussion panel related to the film and cyberbullying. Please go to: www.aacps.org/upstanders to register and view the film at 7 p.m. on October 11. We hope that you will join us for this opportunity to end cyberbullying in Anne Arundel County. "The Upstanders" documentary will be viewed by all CSP students on Thursday, October 14, during ROAR Advisory. The film will be followed by discussion and reflection. Thank you,

Repeat-Free School
Hi CSP Parents, Please see below regarding details on Chesapeake Science Point's NO REPEAT policy. If you have questions and/or concerns regarding this matter, please reach out to your child's school counselor. CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation and the student will have to take classes at CSP for more than four years.

Early Dismissal / Late Arrival days
There are several two-hour early dismissals and late arrival days worked into the calendar this year. On two-hour early dismissal days, all car riders will exit the school building no later than 1:05 pm. Parents must pick their children up on time as there will be no supervision outside. The two-hour early dismissals are typically planned so that staff can participate in professional development. On two-hour late arrival days, all car riders are to be dropped off between 10:00-10:15 am. Students are to be in class in their seats and ready to start the day at 10:20 am. There is a copy of the two-hour late arrival and early dismissal schedules attached for your reference.

Visitors Must Have Appointment
Given that we remain in a pandemic and our focus must be on the instruction of our students, visitors to our school will be permitted only on a limited basis and only by appointment. We ask that families and community members work with us to help fulfill our main goal: to keep the school open and fully functioning in the safest manner possible throughout the school year. ● If you need to schedule an appointment and are unsure whom to contact, please email Ms. Obrien AOBRIEN@MYCSP.ORG, and she will assist you. As much as we miss you all visiting the building, we are unable to honor that request at this time. ● If you are visiting the building, you must park in a parking space. Please do not park on the curb outside the main entrance.

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Seniors, AFCEA Central Maryland Chapter has Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) scholarship opportunities for those high school seniors graduating at the end of the 2021-2022 school year who are starting their college education in the Fall of 2022. Please see below and the attached fliers for more information about the scholarships. The deadline for online scholarship applications is December 20, 2021. All applications must be submitted on-line as detailed in the attached flyers. The link for the application is provided below. While students may apply for more than one scholarship; if selected, they will receive only one scholarship. ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* AFCEA is a worldwide association for communications, electronics, information systems, and intelligence professionals. Since 1987, the local Central Maryland Chapter has awarded scholarships to deserving graduating high school seniors, promoting higher education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) areas of study that can lead to careers in national defense. We look for students interested in systems engineering; software engineering; math; cyber; information technology; electrical engineering; computer engineering; computer science; physics; mechanical engineering; or materials science; or engineering relating to IT, communications, or electronics – and can apply their studies directly to the Defense, Intelligence, or Homeland Security communities. Students who pursue a degree in other areas to include medicine (to include pre-med or nursing), law or pre-law, biology, environmental, or any form of engineering not listed above are unlikely to be considered. If students are unsure, they are welcome to email scholarships@centralmd.afceachapters.org to discuss their field of study. We do not provide funding for students who wish to pursue their education at a military institution. This year, AFCEA Central Maryland has consolidated our scholarship offering into the STEM Scholarships and Community College Scholarship: • STEM Scholarship – Graduating high school students who excel academically are invited to apply for this scholarship. There are several merit scholarships available, each is named for someone who has had a major impact on the AFCEA Central Maryland Chapter. A description of each of the scholarships is attached. This year, students have one application to address and are asked to select up to three merit scholarships for which they would like to be considered. The AFCEA Central Maryland Scholarship Committee will then determine which Merit Scholarship they best fit. We expect multiple Merit Scholarships to be offered. All scholarships are awarded in equal increments of $2,500 per year. Students pursuing a STEM education at a four-year college will receive a total of $10,000, awarded in equal increments of $2,500 each year of the four-year education. For those attending a community college, the award will be $5,000, awarded in equal increments of $2,500 in each year of a two-year education. We will notify students in late February/early March, 2022, if they have been selected. We will invite recipients and their parents to an Awards event in early May, 2022, to receive their scholarship.

UMD APPLICATION INFO
CSP Seniors, Your counseling team received the email listed below from the admissions office at UMD College Park. We thought it was important to share this information with you. PLEASE BE SURE TO READ IT! How Will Students Receive Confirmation of Submitting Their Application? Students will receive two emails from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. One will confirm submission of their online application and the second will provide instructions on how to create a Terps Application Portal (TAP) account. Within TAP, students can track their application status and confirm receipt of all required materials needed to complete their application. What if you Miss the Early Action Deadline? Students should confirm submission and receipt of all application materials prior to November 1. Within their TAP account, students have the ability to see what materials may still be missing from their application. If you are missing required materials after the November 1 early action deadline, you can still submit these documents and be reviewed for the January 20 regular deadline. When and How Will You Hear Back About Your Application? Students who submit their application and all required materials by the November 1 early action deadline will receive an admission decision by February 1. They will be notified via email when a decision is available to view in their TAP account and can follow the instructions listed in the email to view their admission decision online. How Can You Connect with UMD? Throughout the fall, we will be hosting virtual and in-person visit opportunities that we encourage your students to take advantage of! To learn more, or to schedule a visit for your school, please reach out to the admission representative for your area.

SAT/ACT TESTING DATES
Hi Juniors & Seniors! It’s no secret that most college applications require you to submit your SAT or ACT score, making taking the exam an absolute must. In addition to it being a requirement, colleges and universities receive thousands of applications every year. The scores on the SAT and ACT allow them to narrow down the playing field and make decisions on acceptance. In addition to your college applications, your SAT and ACT scores can be used to apply for scholarships. These are sometimes merit based scholarships, granted directly from your choice of college during the application process. Others may be from local, state, or regional programs where your grades, academic achievements, and score affect your eligibility. We wanted to stress the importance of taking the SAT and/or ACT more than once. Studies show that students typically receive a higher score the second time they sit for the test. It would be most beneficial to take the SAT and/or ACT your junior year, then again your senior year. If you receive free or reduced lunch, you qualify for a fee waiver. The counselors have them available in their offices. Please see attachment for 2021-22 testing dates. You may register for the SAT on collegeboard.org. See your counselor with any additional questions.
