Cap and Gown Orders
|
Senior Parents –
Seniors wishing to participate in the graduation ceremony are required to dress in full regalia. We have made every attempt to make sure that you have purchased your child's cap and gown or secured one from an older sibling. If you still need to purchase a cap and gown or just the tassel, you can do so at the link below:
https://www.balfour.com/maryland/hanover/chesapeake-science-point
All cap and gown orders will be delivered to CSP. Seniors that are participating in hybrid learning will sign and receive their order. Those attending virtually will need to have someone come to CSP, sign for, and pick up their order. Once the orders arrive, I will send an email to parents letting you when you can pick up your child's order.
If you have questions, please reach to Ms. O'Brien.

Repeat-Free School
|
Hi CSP Parents,
Please see below regarding details on Chesapeake Science Point's NO REPEAT policy. If you have questions and/or concerns regarding this matter, please reach out to your child's school counselor.
CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation and the student will have to take classes at CSP for more than four years.

Artificial Intelligence education program
|
Inspirit AI, the interdisciplinary tech program for middle and high school students taught by MIT and Stanford grad students.
As artificial intelligence continues to transform our daily lives, space exploration in particular has become more innovative than ever before! The Inspirit team is excited to launch our new track, AI +Astronomy: Planet Hunters - Searching for Exoplanets with AI. In this project, students will use data collected from NASA’s Kepler space telescope to train AI models and detect exoplanets, which could help discover alien life!
Our instructors come from a multitude of relevant backgrounds, with experience in disciplines like Astrophysics and Electrical Engineering. You can check out some of their work and passion projects here.
As applications for our summer program close on May 20th, I invite your students of all disciplines to apply at this link. Whether they’re interested in AI+Astronomy or our other project domains, students will gain an invaluable learning experience that combines technology education with social impact (no programming experience required).

Georgetown University recently created a new opportunity for your high school students to explore courses that might help them better prepare for college majors.
This flexible online program is designed for high school students, ages 13 and older. It enables them to investigate subject areas of particular interest.
Why Georgetown? Georgetown University’s approach to education is unique. We follow the Jesuit tradition of cura personalis—care for the whole person—and our goal with this new program is to provide a holistic experience. Students deserve the opportunity to develop their own talents and dreams, and this program will help them do that.

Current courses offered:
Law: How to Think Like an Attorney
High school students are given an inside look at the profession, practice creating evidence-based arguments, analyzing information, and discerning fact from opinion. The course teaches valuable critical thinking skills. Topics covered offer a good background for potential college majors and career paths related to law.
Medical Research: Clinical Trials Resulting in Medical Discoveries
High school students learn the processes researchers use to formulate and conduct studies, as well as evaluate the evidence gathered. Topics covered offer a good background for potential college majors and career paths related to STEM, medical research, pharmacology, and biostatistics.
Personal mentoring for guidance—flexible learning format
• Mentorship: High school students will participate in live, online group sessions with a Georgetown University mentor who assists with brainstorming on their final project and answering questions about assignments. Mentors are Georgetown students and alumni who are well-versed in the subject area of the course. They also share information on college majors and careers.

Interim Report
|
Parents/Guardians,
Your child's interim grade report will be available this week. Please help your child use this grade report as an indicator of how he/she is doing academically. If your child is doing well, take a moment to celebrate his/her successful habits. If he/she needs to make improvements, now is the time to help your child refocus on time management and study skill strategies. When students need academic assistance, they also have the options of meeting with teachers during Wednesday morning FLEX sessions from 9:05-11:00. Your child can also see his/her counselor to go over academic strategies.
You can help as well by assisting your child in setting a SMART goal for academic success. A SMART goal is:
Specific: What do you want to accomplish? What are the requirements? What are the obstacles or constraints?
Measurable: What will you measure? How will you know when you have met your goal? How will you know when the goal is accomplished?
Achievable: Is your goal attainable? How can the goal be accomplished? What are the logical steps to take to achieve your goal?
Realistic: Is the goal achievable within the limits of your knowledge and time? Do you have the necessary resources to accomplish this goal?
Timely. How long will it take to accomplish this goal? When is the completion of this goal due? When am I going to work on this goal?
A SMART goal is a great first step in achieving academic success. Have your child set small, achievable goals and be sure to celebrate successes along the way!
