Emergency Cards - You Must Complete One!
Parents / Guardians, Last week the county sent out an email to the first contact listed on your child's record. There is a link for the emergency card that needs to be filled out for this school year in that email. Also, in that email, there is a five-digit PIN that is specific to your child. You need this five-digit PIN to complete the emergency card electronically for this school year. We must receive an emergency card for every student that attends CSP. Please work with us and complete this task. Please don't make us have to reach out to individual parents. There are so many changes going on, and we really need to work together as the CSP family that we are. If you didn't receive the county's email and need the five-digit PIN to complete the emergency card, please email Ms. June at jcalvert@mycsp.org. She will happily provide you with the five-digit PIN so you can complete the task. You must complete the form even if you have no changes to make. Below is the link to the form. https://www.aacps.org/domain/148

We the Students Scholarship Essay Contest - Deadline for Entry is April 15, 2021
2021 We the Students Essay Contest Essay Prompt: What is the relationship between Equality and Justice? Answering this question requires considering each of these principles and analyzing the relationship between them. To truly explore this question in an essay that is between 500 -800 words, you’ll need to go beyond "dictionary definitions," and express your understanding and reasoning about the connection between these two principles. This reasoning involves a combination of observation, experience, and some pretty "big ideas." What does it take to understand them? To build toward and maintain them? To see them with regard to each other? Why is this relationship important? We encourage you to bring emotion, creativity, specific examples, and well-researched facts into what you write. A good essay will demonstrate how equality and justice are not just abstract ideas but are part of the actions and choices of people every day. We genuinely want to know how you would answer the question – what is the relationship between Equality and Justice? For more information and to sign up, please visit the following link. https://billofrightsinstitute.org/we-the-students-essay-contest Deadline for entry is April 15, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

Yearbook Photos Needed - Please Read!
Hello CSP community! This form is being sent on behalf of the yearbook team. This year has presented new challenges for getting pictures of our students for the yearbook. As a member of this community, if you have any pictures of students that you believe may be appropriate for the yearbook, please send them in through this form. We would love to have pictures of students starting this past summer all the way up to now. Images of students celebrating events, participating in a sports team or club, virtually or in person, participating in classes virtually, or seeing friends virtually or in person are all welcome! There is one rule that we must follow: all images taken ON SCHOOL PROPERTY of students interacting with someone that is not in their immediate family must show students wearing masks and standing at least 6 feet apart. We are so excited to see what you have been up to! Thank you for your help. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScviQ806nQGD_E3sGyLIhrq1c4KXL2OF0xZtZrQsZU35kSelQ/viewform?usp=sf_link Thank you!

Repeat-Free School
Hi CSP Parents, Please see below regarding details on Chesapeake Science Point's NO REPEAT policy. If you have questions and/or concerns regarding this matter, please reach out to your child's school counselor. CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation and the student will have to take classes at CSP for more than four years.

CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS
More Creative Writing Student Submissions
Last week, I shared some student submissions for their Influential Poems. This week I want to show some more samples. Students in Creative Writing were given the task to write a poem similar to Amanda Gorman's Inauguration poem or her Super Bowl poem using one of the 3 prompts: Write about someone that inspires you Write about overcoming an obstacle Write about becoming stronger There were MANY great poems written and I wish I could share all of them. Here are some more samples of some of our student writers: Influential poem By: Danielle Lora Being stronger can mean many things, You can be stronger within or on the outside. You can be strong in many different ways, But who is the one who decides whether or not you are strong? Only you can decide if you are strong, Being strong means to overcome the many challenges in life. Some challenges are big and some are small, Either way everyone bases how strong they are on this. What is rarely mentioned is how hard it is to be stronger, Whether you get up early everyday or lay down everyday, We all hope to reach the common goal of being strong. The only way we should ever live is trying to become stronger everyday, Without that it is hard to really do anything. It’s easier said than done, Life is proof of that. Many people believe that to be strong you must be very successful in life, However you may define successful. Really, to be strong you must first believe you can be strong, Once you believe in yourself nothing can stop you. Influential poem By: Joel Lawson Being stronger can mean many things, You can be stronger within or on the outside. Untitled By: Gareth Davis A drive to strive for greatness and to grow into a better person by watching another person grow themselves It drives me further to reach my goal as I watch her reach hers Somehow it makes the journey easier by watching another complete theirs Inspired to do better day by day and improve hour by hour People think its hard to do the set up for their future but in reality it can be the easiest thing It's the right drive that kicks you into gear and gets you to move at full speed And for me that drive just happens to be a person And this person kicked me into gear and made me realize that I was blind to the possibilities The possibilities were endless and the career choices were plentiful but I picked one The one I stick with comes with risks but the risks I'm willing to take Because life without risk is a life I will not live Inspired is one of many words to describe everything If I stop now I feel as if I will let everyone down but most of all I would let myself down And tear down every step I have built to reach my goal But that's the thing my steps were built pure and true because there is not stopping You can't just simply give up and you can always get better even if that means moving on And starting a new journey to better yourself even more Those words will stick on me like a tattoo and will forever be One of the reasons I strive so hard to reach my goals Untitled By: Joseph Smotherman There are times when we feel down. There are times when we feel like we can’t help anything, Like we can’t do anything to help The situations we find ourselves in. Sometimes we feel like giving up. But life is not about giving up. Pandora’s box let go a lot of things But the one thing that it kept was hope. Likewise, our lives might hold troubles for us But there is always hope to be found And hope to keep with us until the very end. With this hope, you can find the power The power to keep going The power to stay strong in times of need The power to keep a hold on hope.

Boston University Summer Journalism Academy
For those who are thinking about a career in communications or simply enjoy writing, we have just the thing: the Boston University Summer Journalism Academy. For the last 11 years, students are taught by award-winning journalists, such as Pulitzer Prize winner Lara Salahi and Sherrod Blakely, who will show them how to follow facts and get to the heart of stories affecting communities. From protests to town hall meetings to interviewing local and state politicians, our students are covering issues that matter in their communities. Students also have the option of selecting a photojournalism track, taught by veteran photojournalist Stephen Haines. He worked as a staff photographer, assignment and photo editor for the Boston Globe. He will help students sharpen their camera skills to teach them the basics of visual storytelling. No matter what session your student(s) select, they will learn practical skills that they can apply to any career. Two-week sessions begin on June 21, July 5, and July 19. If you are interested visit our website, and to apply soon, as spots are limited. If students are accepted to the program and pay the registration fee by April 24, they will receive a special discount of $200 off the tuition using this discount code online: 21BUADMISSIONS For additional information, visit site: https://combeyond.bu.edu/workshop/bu-summer-journalism-academy-online/?j=87816&sfmc_sub=4776758&l=205_HTML&u=2256278&mid=514005790&jb=9004
