Emergency Cards - You Must Complete One!
Parents / Guardians, Last week the county sent out an email to the first contact listed on your child's record. There is a link for the emergency card that needs to be filled out for this school year in that email. Also, in that email, there is a five-digit PIN that is specific to your child. You need this five-digit PIN to complete the emergency card electronically for this school year. We must receive an emergency card for every student that attends CSP. Please work with us and complete this task. Please don't make us have to reach out to individual parents. There are so many changes going on, and we really need to work together as the CSP family that we are. If you didn't receive the county's email and need the five-digit PIN to complete the emergency card, please email Ms. June at jcalvert@mycsp.org. She will happily provide you with the five-digit PIN so you can complete the task. You must complete the form even if you have no changes to make. Below is the link to the form. https://www.aacps.org/domain/148

We the Students Scholarship Essay Contest - Deadline for Entry is April 15, 2021
2021 We the Students Essay Contest Essay Prompt: What is the relationship between Equality and Justice? Answering this question requires considering each of these principles and analyzing the relationship between them. To truly explore this question in an essay that is between 500 -800 words, you’ll need to go beyond "dictionary definitions," and express your understanding and reasoning about the connection between these two principles. This reasoning involves a combination of observation, experience, and some pretty "big ideas." What does it take to understand them? To build toward and maintain them? To see them with regard to each other? Why is this relationship important? We encourage you to bring emotion, creativity, specific examples, and well-researched facts into what you write. A good essay will demonstrate how equality and justice are not just abstract ideas but are part of the actions and choices of people every day. We genuinely want to know how you would answer the question – what is the relationship between Equality and Justice? For more information and to sign up, please visit the following link. https://billofrightsinstitute.org/we-the-students-essay-contest Deadline for entry is April 15, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

Yearbook Photos Needed - Please Read!
Hello CSP community! This form is being sent on behalf of the yearbook team. This year has presented new challenges for getting pictures of our students for the yearbook. As a member of this community, if you have any pictures of students that you believe may be appropriate for the yearbook, please send them in through this form. We would love to have pictures of students starting this past summer all the way up to now. Images of students celebrating events, participating in a sports team or club, virtually or in person, participating in classes virtually, or seeing friends virtually or in person are all welcome! There is one rule that we must follow: all images taken ON SCHOOL PROPERTY of students interacting with someone that is not in their immediate family must show students wearing masks and standing at least 6 feet apart. We are so excited to see what you have been up to! Thank you for your help. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScviQ806nQGD_E3sGyLIhrq1c4KXL2OF0xZtZrQsZU35kSelQ/viewform?usp=sf_link Thank you!

Repeat-Free School
Hi CSP Parents, Please see below regarding details on Chesapeake Science Point's NO REPEAT policy. If you have questions and/or concerns regarding this matter, please reach out to your child's school counselor. CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation and the student will have to take classes at CSP for more than four years.

CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS
Creative Writing Student Submissions
Students in Creative Writing were given the task to write a poem similar to Amanda Gorman's Inauguration poem or her Super Bowl poem using one of the 3 prompts: Write about someone that inspires you Write about overcoming an obstacle Write about becoming stronger There were MANY great poems written and I wish I could share all of them. Here is a sample of some of our student writers: Persevere by Allister Rutherford Persevere. A word used often, but how do you persevere? Forcing yourself through a task is persevering, but why? If it is about making yourself do something, is waking up persevering? Can you persevere by doing nothing? Well no, as persevering is about being stronger, not just forcing yourself to do it. You may not want to wake up but know you need to, so you wake up, but no one says you persevered. Right, but how do you persevere? How does being strong help you persevere? By being strong, you can face hardships easier, and get through it. You're not answering my question. How do you persevere? What's the difference between perseverance and just forcing yourself to do a task? Is it about being strong? It’s about will power. Forcing yourself to do something, you don’t have any will to do it. Persevering is having the willpower to do it. And having the will to persevere makes you strong. Untitled by Josh Sanders Standing at the starting line of life, Feeling uneasy ready to take flight; Fear grips my mind, clouding my thoughts; Running down the lane thinking about all the pain it brought; Telling me what I can do, can’t do Stopping me; Stopping you? I can’t let fear do what it do! So I lace up Pick the pace up; So everybody else better brace up; Everybody was counting me out Not realizing they didn’t know what I was really about! Running this race for me isn’t a game I’m chasing life to win it, the glory and the fame. See I’ve got a destiny ahead of me, chasing me, calling me, Becking me to victory. I look in front of me and see the finish line, Realizing I gotta leave fear behind. This race is about me chasing my dreams and coming out on top; Overcoming my fears and obstacles, staying focused--I can’t stop. There’s a future ahead that I must attain; The temptation to give up--Oh I must refrain. Untitled by Josh Godwin Acceptance To accept you believe or come to recognize something as valid or correct. And I don’t accept that I am defined by my color. I don’t accept that you don’t act like a black person. I don’t accept that all black people are the same. And that you of another race knows what a black person is. Tolerance To tolerate you allow the existence of something that you don’t agree with without interference. And I don’t tolerate you thinking I’m some pick me black person. I don’t tolerate you validating me as a bad kid. I don’t tolerate you being racist anymore. How can I look for acceptance in people who will never accept me, because of my skin. No, I won’t tolerate your verbal abuse or your racism. I won’t tolerate being your amusement. My Mother by Kennedi Penaflor My mother, A single mother; Has worked to provide, Provide to survive. Survive through the hate and doubt. The doubt people brought; ¨She got two kids, she can't do¨ is what they thought. My mother, Has graduated with a masters, Has two kids and a house. A house filled with memories; Memories of success. For that, I will succeed as my mother has. I will carry her legacy.

Virtual College Fair
Virtual College Fair Schedule Tuesday, February 23rd, & Wednesday, February 24th, 2021 5:00-7:45 PM ET Students should register for each session that they want to attend. We recommend one session in each time slot. Once they register, they’ll receive a confirmation email with their unique link to join that Zoom webinar. When students register, they are sharing their registration information only with colleges presenting on that particular panel. StriveScan does not sell or share personally identifiable student information with any other third parties. Students should participate live so they can ask questions and interact with the college admission counselors. If students are unable to attend live, we still encourage them to register for the sessions they are interested in and recordings will be available here later. Parents: Parents should register their students using their student’s information. Questions: Contact the OACAC board at execadmin@oacac.org View colleges that will be present, here: https://www.strivescan.com/ohio/
