BREAKING NEWS
Breaking News - 2020 AACPS County Science Fair
A team of juniors from Chesapeake Science Point has taken the First Place Grand Award in the 53rd annual Anne Arundel County Regional Science and Engineering Expo. The team of Saja Mahdi and Rafee Mirza claimed the First Place Award at the Expo with their project “Biospectroscopy: The Future of Breast Cancer Detection.” Their project involved developing different breast cancer cell lines and analyzing them in a Ramen Spectrometer. The subsequent data was placed in a machine learning program to determine if the computer could accurately group the cells and determine if breast cancer was present. This research may lead to lower cost and faster test results when screening for breast cancer.

Dr. Gonzalez - Hey Now!
Hello CSP! I hope everyone is doing well. I have been keeping busy with learning about online education, preparing for next year and doing things at home. My gardens have never looked better in April! My new group of chickens have grown their full feathers and survive overnight without a heat lamp now. It is not a very good spring for honeybees, so I haven't been able to visit with them very much but I remain hopeful. I really miss seeing everyone every day. It is just too mundane to "do" education from a distance! I so look forward to when we can all get together again! Peace and love!

Howdy CSP Tigers, Just wanted to check in and say hello. I hope you and your families are safe and staying healthy during this time. I hope you are finding some enjoyment in every day. Get outside and enjoy this great weather. The trees look amazing and are in bloom. My family and I are trying to take daily walks. My middle child is trying so hard to ride a two wheeled bicycle. My oldest is also trying out elearning for the first time. We are having some bumps but they love when they see all of their classmates in the google meets. Please reach out if you need anything. Stay tuned we are going to figure out how we can continue with our tiger tickets. Hope to see you all soon.

Mr. Hood - E-Learning Update
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. I have been doing well and getting the house ready for Baby Emmy, the time is ticking for her arrival. It is great to see the students involved in their assignments, discussions, and Google Meets. Just a reminder from the 7th grade Bulletin: Best way to contact me: Email is best for parents while Google Classroom is efficient for students. I am also available at my Google Voice # (301) 660-6597. Please use Google Voice during regular school hours. General weekly eLearning: Assignments will be posted on the morning of the 1st School Day of the week, usually that will be on Monday unless there is a holiday or schools are scheduled to be closed. If a student or a group of students requests a Google Meet, I will try to work with their schedule and my schedule to set up that Meet. If I see students are struggling and need extra support, I will set up the meet myself. Please make sure your student reviews the slides that I put together and read all directions that I post on the slides and/or Google Classroom. If they are still unclear, then a post on Google Classroom is a quick and simple way to get a response. Questions about technical issues or AACPS/CSP policy can be found in Mr. Hood’s E-Learning Notebook, which shall be updated when information becomes available. Graded Work expectation: There will be ONE (1) graded assignment each week as determined by the AACPS ELA Office. This assignment will have a rubric and be graded based on the rubric. As there is only ONE (1) GRADED assignment, there will be other assignments posted that can support the GRADED assignment and will be beneficial for students to complete as well. There are NO REDOs during the 4th Marking Period, so please ensure that your student completes the assignment to the best of their ability and/or reaches out to me for support if needed. Assignments are due on Sunday by 11:59 PM. Remember to stay safe and take this time to spend time with your family. If you have time ROAR like a dinosaur!

Ms. Pratt - What's outside your window? CSP Family art Challenge
Artists all over the world have come up with some creative ways to pass time. I came across this article and thought it would be a great way to encourage our families to get those creative juices flowing. Check out this link to see how this artist was inspired by Rene' Magritte's Golconda, 1953. You and your family can try this out with a sharpie or acrylic paint. Send your pics to rpratt@mycsp.org and we will share in the next newsletter. https://mymodernmet.com/pejac-stayarthome-quarantine-project/ more about https://www.renemagritte.org/golconda.jsp

While I would love to be back in the classroom with you all, having discussions and just getting the chance to interact with each other, I'm excited by the opportunity to still be your teacher in this new frontier of education. Just as a general reminder - please make sure you review the agenda for each week's assignment, create a to-do list for stuff, and try to dedicate a bit of time every day you can to English class. I'm also going to be giving out digital tiger tickets! Families and students, please feel free to view this eLearning Resource Slide for my class and if you have any questions please feel free to email me (nbradley@mycsp.org) or call my Google Voice number (301-539-9887) and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible! https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ZVBg1fKDEgwlQ1RQC4HvdkcCCH5QF6gjgwXSFD8UdFc/edit?usp=sharing Pictured here is my new "classroom" and my two new "supervisors" Toby, the dog, and Catsby, the cat!

Hello CSP Families!!!!! Here's a little sneak peek at my dining room office. Yes my dining room is PINK! Would you expect any less? I'd like to shout a big thank you to the CSP community for doing such a great job with e-learning so far. Everyone's hard work is on full display under the current circumstances. We're awesome! One of the things that has helped me to adjust to this new normal was to establish a routine for me and the kids. Each morning we get up, eat, craft, nap, and get some fresh air at the same times. Setting a schedule that works for you and your family could help you be successful as well! Continue to reach out to teachers if needed! We're here for you! Please stay safe and continue to rock e-learning!!!

This is my new "classroom"... send help! Although I'm happy to have this time with my little ones, I miss seeing you all every day! I hope that you are staying home and that your families are well and happy. I know that there are so many questions and frustrations right now, and that this eLearning thing is hard; it's hard for me to balance teaching and looking after a 3 year old and 11 month old! Please reach out if you think there is anything I might be able to do to make this time easier for you. My best advice is to make yourself a weekly schedule to be sure that you make time for each of your classes, and prioritize the work to be sure that you do what you need to get the graded assessment done. Reach out to your teachers if you are struggling!! Be well, and I hope to see you all again soon.

Dear parents and students, I'd like to commend you all, for doing your best to adapt to the new circumstances. While this new learning environment may not be ideal to learn to communicate in a second language, please encourage your student to attend the live lessons and participate when possible. It is also important that students complete all assigned tasks before attempting to work on the graded assignment, to ensure success. I am very pleased with attendance and assignment completion for the past week. Keep up the good work! Hasta pronto, Mrs. Albayrak

Mr. Woerner Quarantine Update
Hi All! This past month has been crazy as we have all been trying to figure out what the new normal is. My family has been wonderful during this transition to online working and being at home, although I think that it is starting to take its toll on my wife. We have tried to keep a routine as much as possible for the girls and our sanity. Over the past month, I have been continuing to work on my Master's degree and taking care of the house. I miss going into school and working with people but I find various ways to cope with the lack of outside communication, such as baking and practicing archery in my backyard. I hope that you are staying safe and sane

Mr. Day - Physics Status
Hello from my living room floor! The current pandemic has certainly put us all in less-than-ideal situations, and I want to let you know that I am doing everything I can to provide your child the best physics education from a distance. While I don’t have a Batcave full of gadgets to demonstrate the phenomenon we are learning about. I understand that this is a difficult time for you, the parents, as your children may have questions about the content which you may not be able to assist with. Chesapeake Science Point has set each one of its teachers up with a Google Voice account for use during this pandemic, and I have shared that number with your students. I am generally available anytime until about 10 or so at night. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call me on my Google Voice, send me an email, or set up a conference via Google Meets. I am here for you and your students. I miss my students like crazy! Our jokes, laughs, and daily "tea" catch-ups. I feel so 'boomer' right now because I don't know the current TikTok dance. I'm excited to hear from everyone on Google Classroom and rock out 4th marking period! I miss my teacher crew too! During my time away from school-I've been trying to spend some time outdoors daily, working on my cooking skills, and finishing up my own graduate school work. I submitted my last assignment last week and will "graduate" next month (just because I don't walk-doesn't mean I don't get that paper and graduate!) I hope everyone is staying safe, working hard to be successful, and enjoying their time together with family!

Hello everyone! I hope you've all been doing well over break. It's been great seeing everyone online and hearing about what you've all been doing! While it's definitely not the same as a classroom setting (which I definitely miss!) it's nice to get back to teaching and learning. On the bright side, there's a lot more time to do things at home - I've been stepping up my cooking, celebrating my birthday with a nice dinner, and finding a lot of time to (safely!) relax outside. Make sure to take some time to do something you enjoy! Stay safe, and stay positive!

We are UNITED in this TOGETHER! As a teacher and a parent, I have felt the growing pains of switching to an all online eLearning program. At the end of each day I attempt to find the silver lining from this most unusual time in our history. Professionally this has been learning so much more about Google Classroom and what I can do teaching online. I hope to implement some of these new found techniques when we eventually return to our brick and mortar schools. As a parent I have enjoyed being back home and spending more time with my boys and seeing them grow, play, and learn at home. I miss all my students and look forward to connecting with them in my classrooms through comments and virtual sessions.

ATHLETICS / PAC
Mr. Smith - Athletics
Students and Families, I hope that everyone is doing well during these times away from the school building. As you may know, CSP athletics has been put on hold during the last month due to the Coronavirus crisis, and many of our athletes have missed a great deal of the season. I am thinking of our Seniors and the rest of our student athletes, and are working to honor these athletes in some way before the end of the year. Go to aacps.org/athletics, or mpssaa.org to get any alerts concerning athletics status. Please take care of yourself and your families and I hope to see you all soon!

THANK-YOU
CPS Thank you Letters Make it to Australia
Way back in January, the students of CSP in conjunction with a local cub scout pack created over a 100 thank you letters to be sent to the Australian fire fighters who were fighting the worst bush fires the country had seen. Please take a look at the attached website link and video link to see how much these thank you cards were appreciated by the Australian volunteer fire fighters.
