Friday A / B Schedules
|
Parents,
As you are aware, we do not have a set pattern for Fridays. It appears like they rotate, but actually sometimes there are two even three Fridays in a row that are A days. We do this to make sure there are an even number of A and B days in each quarter.
I have attached a copy of the Friday A/B schedule.

Summer Business Program Opportunity at UMD College Park
|
What are the Summer Business programs?
Smith Summer Business programs are living-learning, immersive experiences aimed to enhance students’ understanding of business, create global awareness on pertinent topics and develop leadership skills. There are two different opportunities for high school students.
Synder Enterprise Leadership Fellows (SELF)
Accepted high school applicants will spend two weeks alongside other top innovative students. They will learn the value of business in society and develop the enterprise and leadership skills that underpin personal happiness and upward mobility.
Students will reside on the University of Maryland campus, attend challenging classes taught by faculty and staff of the Smith School of Business and have the opportunity to directly apply what they learn during the fellowship. Classroom sessions are designed to focus on preparing students to embrace the challenge of solving real-world problems by using an entrepreneurial mindset and to expose young people to concepts that go beyond economics and business and are tied to a life philosophy rooted in self-reliance.
The two-week fellowship culminates in a team-based competition where fellows will get hands-on experience pitching ideas to industry professionals. They also participate in co-curricular activities such as company site visits and on/off campus excursions throughout the National Capital Region. SELF equips fellows with a solid foundation for college and empowers them to make informed decisions about the future. Snider Enterprise Fellows take their place in a growing network of innovative and entrepreneurial student leaders.
Smith Sports and Entertainment Business Program (SEBP)
You don’t need to be an athlete or performer to have a great career in sports and entertainment. The Smith Sports and Entertainment Business Program (SEBP) is a two-week residential program providing rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders an overview of careers in the sports and entertainment industries. Students will learn first-hand from career professionals designed to teach topics such as management, law, negotiation, marketing and leadership as it relates to the sports and entertainment industries. Interactive classroom sessions compliment various site visits throughout the Washington Metropolitan area and beyond. The two-week program culminates in a team-based competition at the intersection of sports, entertainment and business by pitching a solution that solves real-life problems in the field. SEBP students learn about college life, live in a residence hall and develop lifelong relationships with fellow participants, undergraduate student mentors, faculty and staff fostering a strong foundation for their future.

MD PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP
|
“College in Maryland is free now?” Not quite. But the Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship is a great way to attend a Maryland community college without taking loans.
The Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship Program will be available for the 2020-2021 school year. The Promise Scholarship provides up to $5,000 in tuition assistance to help eligible students attend one of Maryland’s 16 public community colleges. As a “last dollar” scholarship, it covers any remaining tuition and mandatory fees after other grants and scholarships are applied. Recipients must complete their program and work full-time and pay Maryland income tax for one year for each year they received the Maryland Promise. If recipients fail to meet these requirements, the funds convert to a low-interest student loan. Initial awards are prioritized by the greatest financial need, but renewal awards will be prioritized over all others.
Eligibility Criteria
You’re eligible for the Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship Program if you:
-Graduated from high school or successfully completed a GED in Maryland less than two years ago
-Earned an overall high school grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.3 or the equivalent
-Are eligible for in-state tuition, as determined by the community college
-Are enrolled in a public community college and are seeking an associate degree, approved certificate or registered apprenticeship.Complete at least 12 credits per semester at the community college
-Have not been awarded another educational grant or scholarship that covers your full cost of attendance at the community college
-Have an annual adjusted gross income of not more than:$100,000 if you’re single or reside in a single-parent household or -$150,000 if you’re married or reside in a two-parent household
-Have not already earned a bachelor’s or associate degree
If you’re eligible, you only have to do two things to apply:
1. Submit the FAFSA (or MSFAA) by March 1, 2020 and list AACC or your local Maryland community college on the FAFSA/MSFAA.
2. Respond to follow-up requests for additional information from MHEC.
More information is available from the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

DONATIONS NEEDED

Holiday Shoppe- donations needed
|
Each year the art room sets up shop and offers students a place to buy gifts for their loved ones at low cost. Some items are new and others are gently used in great condition. All items are sold for $5 or less and the money raised is used to bring in a resident artist that will work with students over multiple days and a separate artist for an assembly. This year we will have two resident artists and one assembly which means we need to raise close to $2,000. So, as you clean house and prepare for the holidays keep an eye out for items that could be used for our holiday shoppe.
Ideas-
Toys (action figures)
like new books
Jewelry
candles
that pile of items you have ready to re-gift
Please send in all donations to Mrs. Pratt by December 17. The Holiday Shoppe will be open December 16-20.
Parents can also support the arts by making a donation that will sponsor our visiting artists. Contact Mrs. Pratt if your interested in making a difference through the arts!
