BREAKING NEWS
Functional Security Exercise Drill - Friday, December 6
Dear parents / guardians, We have some important information to share about an upcoming event at our school. On Friday, December 6, we will be a conducting a Functional Security Exercise Drill mandated by the Office of School Security as part of our school system’s efforts to increase awareness and preparation in the event of an actual emergency. This drill will simulate an intruder into our building that will prompt a lockdown scenario in the school. There will be no weapons of any kind, simulated or otherwise, used in the drill. What will happen on Friday, December 6, is only a drill. Please do not be alarmed. This is only a drill, and there will be no actual emergency. We will be sending communication via email to parents before and after the drill to inform you of the status of the exercise. I wanted you to be aware of this so that you can discuss it with your child in a manner you deem most appropriate. If you choose to have such a conversation, please reassure your child that this is only a drill, and that there is no danger. Thank you, Principal Jefferson

Friday A / B Schedules
Parents, As you are aware, we do not have a set pattern for Fridays. It appears like they rotate, but actually sometimes there are two even three Fridays in a row that are A days. We do this to make sure there are an even number of A and B days in each quarter. I have attached a copy of the Friday A/B schedule.

COLLEGE CORNER
ACT/SAT Registration Dates - LAST OPPORTUNITY FOR SENIORS!
Seniors have one last chance to sit for the ACT and/or SAT prior to college admission deadlines. ACT - December 14th SAT - December 7th Most college applications require students to submit their SAT or ACT score, making taking the exam an absolute must. In addition to it being a requirement, colleges and universities receive thousands of applications every year. The scores on the SAT and ACT allow them to narrow down the playing field and make decisions on acceptance. In addition to college applications, SAT and ACT scores can be used to apply for scholarships. These are sometimes merit based scholarships, granted directly from the student's choice of college during the application process. Others may be from local, state, or regional programs where grades, academic achievements, and score affect eligibility. The CSP Counseling Department would like to stress the importance of taking the SAT and/or ACT more than once. Studies show that students typically receive a higher score the second time they sit for the test. It would be most beneficial to take the SAT and/or ACT your junior year, then again your senior year. If you receive free or reduced lunch, you qualify for a fee waiver. The counselors have them available in their offices. Please see attachment for all ACT & SAT registration dates and deadlines. Encourage your child to see his/her counselor if he/she needs assistance registering.

ECAP FORM DUE
If your child was invited to take advantage of the Anne Arundel Community College course offering(s) here at Chesapeake Science Point, the Early College Access Program (ECAP) form is due to Mrs. Shepherd NO LATER than Monday, November 25th. Details on how to fill out and print the form: 1. If this is the first AACC class you have taken, then you need to apply to the college. Go to aacc.edu and click on Apply and Register. Complete that process. You will know when you’ve completed it correctly when you get a message saying that you were successful. 2. Go to aacps.org/ecap and click on Print Your Application. Print and sign this form and bring it to Mrs. Shepherd. For username, use your 6-digit lunch number. For password, use your date of birth: yyyymmdd. So, if my birthday is March 21, 1958, my password is 19580321. Have your parents sign the bottom. If you get an error message when you try to print this form, send Mrs. Shepherd an email so the problem can be resolved. 3. Fill out the Registration Form available outside of Mrs. Shepherd’s door and return to Mrs. Shepherd (fill out the top and sign the bottom, your counselor will fill in the rest if you don’t fill in the middle). 4. If you think you qualify because of your financial situation, fill out the ECAG form and send it directly to the college. They will send you a check for $200 if you are eligible. If you filled this out for a first semester class, you do not need to fill it out again. Available at https://www.aacc.edu/media/college/ecap/EarlyCollegeAccessGrant.pdf 5. By signing up for a class, you understand that CSP will pay for tuition, and that you are responsible for the rest of your bill and the cost of the textbook.

MD PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP
“College in Maryland is free now?” Not quite. But the Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship is a great way to attend a Maryland community college without taking loans. The Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship Program will be available for the 2020-2021 school year. The Promise Scholarship provides up to $5,000 in tuition assistance to help eligible students attend one of Maryland’s 16 public community colleges. As a “last dollar” scholarship, it covers any remaining tuition and mandatory fees after other grants and scholarships are applied. Recipients must complete their program and work full-time and pay Maryland income tax for one year for each year they received the Maryland Promise. If recipients fail to meet these requirements, the funds convert to a low-interest student loan. Initial awards are prioritized by the greatest financial need, but renewal awards will be prioritized over all others. Eligibility Criteria You’re eligible for the Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship Program if you: -Graduated from high school or successfully completed a GED in Maryland less than two years ago -Earned an overall high school grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.3 or the equivalent -Are eligible for in-state tuition, as determined by the community college -Are enrolled in a public community college and are seeking an associate degree, approved certificate or registered apprenticeship.Complete at least 12 credits per semester at the community college -Have not been awarded another educational grant or scholarship that covers your full cost of attendance at the community college -Have an annual adjusted gross income of not more than:$100,000 if you’re single or reside in a single-parent household or -$150,000 if you’re married or reside in a two-parent household -Have not already earned a bachelor’s or associate degree If you’re eligible, you only have to do two things to apply: 1. Submit the FAFSA (or MSFAA) by March 1, 2020 and list AACC or your local Maryland community college on the FAFSA/MSFAA. 2. Respond to follow-up requests for additional information from MHEC. More information is available from the Maryland Higher Education Commission. https://mhec.state.md.us/preparing/Pages/FinancialAid/ProgramDescriptions/prog_MDCommunityCollegePromiseScholarship.aspx
