New Acquisitions – Novels and Computers
We are delighted to announce the addition of six more novels by Tui Sutherland into the Media Center. This addition allows us to offer our fantasy-loving students the complete Wings of Fire series to date. Sutherland, by the way, was one of our student’s most-read authors last year! We’re hopeful that we can add more of her works, as well as the latest novels by J.K. Rawlings, Rick Riordan, James Patterson and many others, in the very near future. We have ordered, and are awaiting the arrival of, 4 desk-top computers for use in the Media Center. These will complement the 3 lap tops currently used, and provide students with broader access to on-line literary and research sites.

SCHOOL NEWS
From The Principal's Desk!
Greetings CSP Family, We are off to a great start of the school year! Thank you to all of the parents who completed the Back to School Night survey! The information you shared is important in helping drive the direction of the school. Please check the school's calendar weekly for updates on school wide events! Parents, as we are settling in to the new year, I have a few announcements that I wish to share with you. Culturefest: Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation is sponsoring their Annual Culturefest on November, 3rd in Laurel, MD. We encourage your child to participate in this wonderful and fun filled event! Your child can perform a dance, sing a song, enter art projects, spoken word, and or show case any other talent they may posses. All students will receive a gift card from CLF and also have their name entered in a drawing to win a $50 visa gift card from the principal! Please go to our website, mycps.org, for further information. Parent Conferences: If you were unable to sign up for parent conferences on October 23rd, please contact your student's teacher to schedule a conference with them at a later date. Most teachers are available in the mornings from 7:30-8:00 and during their respective planning periods. Please contact the teacher do determine which time works best. We look forward to seeing you at your child's conference. Uniforms: Please make sure that your child is wearing the appropriate CSP school uniform. All shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, and sweaters must have the CSP logo. You may go to mycsp.org for ordering details. Hoodies and shirts/jackets that have hoods attached to them cannot be worn during the school day. They must go in the child's locker. Morning/Afternoon pick up and drop off: Parents and students who drive, please drive five miles per hour or less when traveling in the school's parking lot. The safety of all students and visitors is important to me. Traveling greater than five miles per hour creates a dangerous and unsafe pathway for those who are walking in the parking lot. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this request. Thank you for everything that you do! Enjoy your weekend!

Repeat-Free School
CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to be become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation and the student will have to take classes at CSP for more than four years.

Another way to support CSP
Hello CSP Family, We are very excited to announce that there is another way to contribute to the PTSO via a channel that we all use daily which is Amazon, using AmazonSmile. The way this works is very simple. Basically, go to www.smile.amazon.com and login with your normal login and just select Chesapeake Science Point PTSO. Once this is done you should see the page above and every time a purchase is made Amazon will contribute a certain percentage of the total order. That’s it, so simple! Last year the PTSO was able to earn over $50 just through parents buying what they were going to buy anyway through Amazon. This year we’d like your support in doubling that number. So please link Chesapeake Science Point PTSO to your Amazon. If there are any questions, please reach out to the PTSO board at mycspptsoboard@googlegroups.com and we will gladly answer any questions you may have. Once again thank you for your support and we look forward to making this a great year.

Sincerely, Your CSP PTSO Board

3 Big ways you can support our school through CSP-PTSO!!!
This year CSP PTSO will be participating in the Box Tops for Education™ program. Clipping Box Tops is an easy way for you to help our school buy what it needs. Box Tops are each worth 10¢ and they quickly add up to real cash for our school. · When people throw away their unclipped Box Tops, it’s like they are throwing away money. · When families and schools work together to collect Box Tops and send them in, the money adds up fast! For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to www.BTFE.com. Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons, recipes, bonus offers and extra ways for our school to earn. Did you know Box Tops expire? Yes, they do! The next award submissions need to be postmarked by NOVEMBER 1st, so please send your box tops in by OCTOBER 26TH. Please don’t send in expired box tops, they will be discarded because Box Tops DOES NOT accept expired dates. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the PTSO at mycspptsoboard@googlegroups.com. We’re here to help make our school’s fundraiser programs a huge success this year.

Thanks for your help! CSP PTSO Board
