FIELD TRIPS
Junior Achievement Finance Park
Last week, CMIT-S 8th grade students were given a small taste of what the future has in store for them at the JA Finance Park. Each student was given a career/job at random. These ranged from cashier to doctor. Students then had to use their monthly net income to shop, pay bills, and hope they had money left over for entertainment. The staff that attended the field trip over heard student asking, "how do parents do this?” One student was so upset when he had to settle for a landline and could not have a mobile phone! This was a great experience for students to learn about budgeting and running a household. Students were also able to research careers in the Washington Redskins College and Career Center. It was a great and educational time by everyone who attended. A special thank you to our parent volunteers who attended which made the trip possible.

ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS
High School Uniform Ordering
8th Grade parents will be asked to place their high school uniform orders in June. The orders may be placed online without a need of sizing since parents already know the current size of the uniforms. All the orders placed by June 30 will be delivered to the school during the first two weeks of August.

As shared earlier, the CMIT South community chose purple and gold colors after a survey that was sent out in Fall. The uniform company's weblink will be shared in the next newsletter. The parents will be required to purchase at least

- 2 CMIT South polo shirts
- 1 CMIT South fleece or windbreaker
- 1 CMIT South tie (high school ties are purple)

The minimum order will cost about $75-80 even though parents are recommended to purchase more items; the orders placed after June 30 will not be delivered until September.

PE shirts will not be mandatory for the 9th grade where PE course is not offered - except elective courses. White oxford shirts remain the same but parents need to order a new one if the current oxford shirt does not fit anymore.

REMINDER: Last Day of School is June 20th
Greetings CMIT South Parents/Guardians,

CMIT South would like to remind you that CMIT follows the PGCPS school year calendar. Parents are encouraged to register text or email alerts for school closings and emergencies by filling out the online form on PGCPS website: https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/PGCPS/subscriber/new

Students and parents are asked not to schedule any vacations or trips to coincide with school days for the 2015-16 school year. Maryland state law requires that all students between the ages of 5-16 attend school regularly. Absences from and tardies to school is disruptive to the learning process. Studies have shown that students who attend school on a regular basis earn better grades and learn more than those who are frequently absent. Students will also earn incentives for Perfect Attendance.

Please note that June 15-17 & 20, 2016 are assigned as inclement weather make-up days and students may be required to attend school on those days, depending on the weather conditions throughout the Winter. Please do not plan any family vacations until after June 21, 2016.

FYI:
Friday, June 17: 2 Hr. Early Dismissal for Students
Monday, June 20: Last Day for Students - 2 Hr. Early Dismissal

Parents and students are asked to visit PGCPS website for calendar updates: http://www1.pgcps.org/calendar
