Microsoft Office Specialists at CMIT South
CMIT South Scholars have started taking their Microsoft Office Specialist exams this week. 28 students have already been certified by Microsoft. Congratulations to the students and their teachers for this great achievement.

Students continue to take the certification exam this weekend; we wish them the best success.

New CMIT South Families
CMIT South enrolled 160 new students for 2016-17 academic year. The parents will be attending an orientation on Saturday, May 21 and students will be taking their pre-assessments.

During the month of July, school weekly newsletters share more information on Summer assignments, school supply list, and schedule for the upcoming school year.

Book list and uniform ordering information for the new students are attached.

Career Day! Friday June 3rd 2016... We need Speakers!
Career Day is such an exciting event for our students! Please sign up to share your career with our students and help them stay motivated in their studies! Can only spare a half day? No problem!

Presenters should prepare for 15-20 minutes discussing their job, qualifications, daily schedule, and what they enjoy or do not enjoy about their job. Students will then be permitted 10-15 minutes for questions.

Family Fun Field Day Tickets on sale NOW!

Come join us for food and fun in celebration of the end of another successful school year!
Location: Oak Creek West Community Park
13204 Whiteholm Dr Upper Marlboro MD 20776
Date: June 5, 2016
Time: 12:00-5:00pm
Ticket Price: $10 per parent, $5 for siblings and CMIT South students (both current and incoming) are FREE

The park has a soccer and football fields and we will have activities such as relay races, kickball tournament, etc. There are no bleachers and very limited seated under the pavilion so, feel free to bring chairs and tents.

The Family Fun Field Day is open to all students, parents, siblings and school staff. Tickets must be purchased by May 27, 2016. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE EVENT! Tickets are available NOW online at https://www.pt-avenue.com/shopGP.asp?sc=CMITSPTO.

Tickets will also be available for purchase at the PTO meeting on May 18th and the New Parent Orientation on May 21st.

7th Grade Physics Final (Its Coming!)
Summer is coming! But first the seventh graders need to pass Physical Science! Finals season is around the corner, and if you have been struggling in science class this year, the time to begin studying is now!

The science Final (For All Classes and Grade Levels) is Wednesday June 15th 2016 from 8:00am- 10:00am. (For the rest of the day classes will operate on a 2 hour delay schedule)

Your PRIMARY source for review for the Final exam is to review classwork, notes, and prior assessments.

Your SECONDARY source for review for the Final exam is your PEARSON TEXT (Available both in Print and Online)

The following chapters contain content for the final exam.
Chapter 7 (Motion)
Chapters 8.1- 8.3 (Forces)
Chapters 9.1-9.3 (Work and Machines)
Chapter 10 (Energy)
Chapters 11.1-11.2 (Heat)

Greetings CMIT South Family,

This announcement reaches you with bitter-sweet emotions, as this is the last post that you will be seeing from me. I have officially accepted a much sought after position in my degree field of Media and my last day here at CMIT South will be Friday, May 27th.

I would like to graciously thank you for your partnership throughout my time here at CMIT South and wish you all much continued success!

To my precious CMIT South students: this is not goodbye, but just a see you later! I will be sure to visit events and look forward to hearing about the many great things you will continue to do as you grow. I hope by following my dreams, that I inspire you to never give up on yours. Dare to chase your dreams, chase them until you're out of breath...then keep running!

Hoops for Heart - American Heart Society

CMIT South is partnering with the American Heart Association to fund life saving cardiovascular and stroke research and fight childhood obesity, please help. When the on-line fundraising activities outlined below are completed, it will help our school earn FREE gift certificates to purchase Physical Education equipment. Students have received all information needed to participate on Friday 05/13/2016. Please support your child(ren) in this endeavor.

LAST COLLECTION FOR THE YEAR

It’s Box Tops submission time again! From May 23rd to June 3rd, turn in your Box Tops so they can be counted towards our total this school year. It’s our last drive this school year to earn cash for our school. The CMIT South University with the highest number of BoxTops collected will win an ice cream social. Deposit Box Tops in Green bins located in classrooms. There are also collection bins located at the front lobby as well as at the Enrichment pick-up desk in the cafeteria.
Remember to label them with your university. Thanks for your help and good luck

What is the Uniform Policy?

How do we order uniform items?
Uniform items can be ordered by completing the OWI order form.

What uniform items should we order?
At least
- 2 CMIT South Polo shirts (1 blue, 1 green)
- 1 CMIT South fleece or windbreaker
- 1 CMIT South White oxford shirt
- 1 blue tie (neck tie for boys, crisscross tie for girls)
- 1 CMIT South PE t-shirt

Items to be purchased at a department store:

Pants:
- Navy blue or khaki
Shoes:
- Solid black (no markings or insignias)
Belt:
- Solid black
Athletic pants:
- Solid blue or black (no markings or insignias)

What is CMIT's Daily Schedule?
7:35- 7:45am:
- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)
- Doors close at 7:45am (after 7:45am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)

7:35 - 7:57am:
- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 7:50am)

8:00am - 2:49pm for 6th grade and 2:54 for 7th grade:
- Academic instruction

2:49/2:54 - 3:05 pm:
Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:05pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).

Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities.

How do I pay for my child's lunch?
Breakfast and lunch are served every day. You can add money to your child's account by visiting this link. You can also pay by cash or money order in the cafeteria.

Can my child bring their own lunch to school?
Students can bring a lunch from home. Lunches can be stored in the student's locker. Microwaves are available in the cafeteria to warm food. Refrigerators are not available for students.

What do they serve for school lunch?
A monthly menu is provided by Food and Nutrition Services. Click here for lunch and breakfast menu.

What is the academic calendar?
CMIT follows the Prince George's County Public School calendar found here. To receive notifications of PGCPS school cancellations by providing information here.
