Teacher Appreciation
|
On behalf of CMIT South staff, I thank our PTO, students, and CLF for recognizing our efforts, with teacher appreciation week. The staff enjoyed receiving superhero notes from students, snacks, breakfast, and delicious lunches. The biggest teacher appreciation week gifts for us were the following:
- 22 of the 8th grade students are invited to be part of PGCC ITEC Middle College Summer Bridge Program where they will earn their first college credit. Their first ITEC course is INT1010 (Intro to Info Systems) in Fall. Congratulations to the 8th grade students who are eligible to attend the program: Thai, LeAnn, Noorah, T’Liyah, Nijah, Sydney, Amelia, Oba, Mikayla, John, Lyric, Ethan, Alexander, Tarik, Christian, Michael, Alexandria, Rennie, Jabril, Ryan, Brittney, Sultan.
- On Saturday, April 30th, our robotics team competed in Johns Hopkins University Robo Challenge 2016 competition. Our team brought home 1st Place in ‘So You Think Your Robot Can Dance’ and 2nd Place in ‘Mystery Maze’ challenges. We are proud of our students Adam, Israel, and Muhammad!

PARCC Skate Party
|
CMIT South will round up the PARCC assessment by providing an opportunity for students to relax and unwind with a Skate Party on June 15 and 16. In order to participate, students must be present and on time all days of PARCC; come prepared with their earbud; and follow all testing guidelines.
Permission slip will be sent with all eligible students for parent consent. Please note that this event is free to all eligible students. More details to come later.

Final Exam Schedule
|
The final exam schedule for the 2015-16 school year has now been released. Please ensure that students are present all days of final exams. All final exam date will operate on a two-hour delay schedule although school is opened on time. During the first two hours of each day, students will take their assessments in their first period classes.

Career Day! Friday June 3rd 2016... We need Speakers!

Career Day is such an exciting event for our students! Please sign up to share your career with our students and help them stay motivated in their studies! Can only spare a half day? No problem! Presenters should prepare for 15-20 minutes discussing their job, qualifications, daily schedule, and what they enjoy or do not enjoy about their job. Student Service Learning Opportunities
|
Whitemarsh Park, 100 White Marsh Park Dr, Bowie, MD 20715 May 21st, 2016, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. www.cityofbowie.org/weedwarriorsThe City of Bowies Green Team is in need of volunteers to help remove English ivy from Whitemarsh Park. As an invasive, non-native plant, English ivy spreads quickly and easily, and is very destructive to native ecosystems. This is an outdoor activity that requires cutting the ivy vines at eye-level and foot-level, then pulling them back about two feet from the base of the tree to bag them. To participate, please register by contacting Kristin Larson (klarson@cityofbowie.org, 301-809-3044). This is a great Student Service Learning opportunity. Children age 14 and younger must be under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian or Troop Leader at all times, and no volunteers under age 16 can use tools but may participate by pulling and bagging vines. Tiffany Wright (Watershed Manager for the City of Bowie) or Kristin Larson (Sustainability Planner for the City of Bowie) will sign off on service learning hours for students at the event. The Prince George’s County Department of the Environment will be hosting Clean Sweep Spring 2016 with several communities. Student Service learning hours are available to students that register with Tiaa Rutherford, Litter Reduction Program Manager, 301-883-6226 or trutherford@co.pg.md.us. Radiant Valley Clean Sweep Spring 2016 on Saturday, May 7th, 2016, 9am-12pm, meet at Cooper Lane Elementary School, 3817 Cooper Lane, Hyattsville, MD 20784. Palmer Park Clean Sweep Spring 2016 on Saturday, May 14th, 2016, 9am-1pm, meet at dead end of Allendale Circle, Landover, MD. Chillum Ray Clean Sweep Spring 2016 on Saturday, May 21st, 2016, 8am-2pm, meet at Ridge Crest Elementary School, 6120 Riggs Rd, Hyattsville, MD 20783. Summer Opportunity in DC Teens of all abilities will work directly with the DCJCC’s Morris Cafritz Center for Community Service (MCCCS) to help change lives. Community service opportunities include food distribution, working with seniors, community clean-up, and more. Counselors and special education professionals work closely with campers to make this inclusive Service Camp accessible and to ensure everyone enjoys the full diversity of our community. Campers earn up to 30 SSL hours of volunteer hours per week. This camp is designed for teens grades 7 – 12. Spring Pictures - Take Two

The CMIT South PTO would like to announce that an alternate date has been chosen for students at CMIT South to take spring pictures. Students will receive forms to be completed next week. Please ensure that your student has completed forms and has monies on May 12, 2016 should they choose to take pictures.
Students taking Spring pictures with their completed form and monies may dress out of uniform on this day.

Parents, let's give another BIG Thank You to ALL CMIT South Administrators, Staff and Teachers for the SUPER jobs that they do on a daily basis!! We encourage each of our families to stay involved in and around our school! Reach out to your child/children's teachers to find out if there is anything you could do to assist them in any way! Let's not make celebrating our school family a once a year occurrence!! Let's give a hand to our 2016 Appreciation Committee members: Judith Oliver, Tiffany Doster, Lorna Campbell, Reprina Morton, Veronica Jessamy, Nichelle Jahmani and Angelia Scott! This group of ladies worked diligently and provided their artistic talents and negotiating skills to make this week a very special event! As always, we appreciate the PTO Board and all the members for their assistance in making this event a success! Just as last year, we were able to secure donations from businesses in our area and we'd like to say a special THANK YOU to Shoppers Food Store, 2950 Donnell Dr, BJ's Wholesale Foods, 1781 Ritchie Station Ct, Party City 3316 Donnell Dr, Giant Food Store 5500 Silver Hill Rd, America's Best Wings 5422 Silver Hill Rd and 3 Brothers Restaurant 6444 Coventry Way! Naval STEM Expo
|
The Navy League STEM Institute is proud to host the second Naval STEM Expo on Sunday, May 15, 2016 1:00pm – 5:00pm at the Gaylord Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland. The Naval STEM Exposition provides a fun and educational way to connect students with our nation's top military and civilian organizations who can inspire students to pursue a STEM-related career. By fostering more transparency between industry representatives and students before college, the STEM Exposition offers early insight for students about the value of a STEM skill-set in today's world. This will help ensure companies and the military have a pipeline of potential employees with the right skills for our nation's security. Attendance is FREE. Come join us in for food and fun in celebration of the end of another successful school year! Location: Oak Creek West Community Park 13204 Whiteholm Dr Upper Marlboro Md 20776 Date: June 5, 2016 Time: 12:00-5:00pm The park has soccer and football fields and we will have activities such as relay races, kickball tournament, etc. There are no bleachers and very limited seated under the pavilion so, feel free to bring chairs and tents. The Family Fun Field Day is open to all students, parents, siblings and school staff. Tickets must be purchased by May 27, 2016. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE EVENT! What is CMIT's Daily Schedule?
7:35- 7:45am:
- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)
- Doors close at 7:45am (after 7:45am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)
7:35 - 7:57am:
- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 7:50am)
8:00am - 2:49pm for 6th grade and 2:54 for 7th grade:
- Academic instruction
2:49/2:54 - 3:05 pm:
Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:05pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).
Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities.
How do I pay for my child's lunch?
Breakfast and lunch are served every day. You can add money to your child's account by visiting this link. You can also pay by cash or money order in the cafeteria.
Can my child bring their own lunch to school?
Students can bring a lunch from home. Lunches can be stored in the student's locker. Microwaves are available in the cafeteria to warm food. Refrigerators are not available for students.
What do they serve for school lunch?
A monthly menu is provided by Food and Nutrition Services. Click here for lunch and breakfast menu.
What is the academic calendar?
