The Last Quarter at CMIT South
As we are approaching the end of the year, we will be experiencing a busy quarter with PARCC testing along with many student activities.

Parents are asked to ensure students arrive school on time, with 100% attendance while we are reviewing for PARCC. The testing will start at the end of April. PARCC scores impact student placement and elective course selection at the beginning of each year.

CMIT South is proud of offering fun educational activities including Earthfest day and field trips to reward our wonderful students who continue to present positive behavior. Be ready to get busy!

Arrival and Departure Change
YES! Starting from Monday, April 11th, 2016 - CMIT South's traffic pattern is back to the breezeway doors.

I would like to remind everyone to follow the traffic pattern, obey the speed limit, and arrive early. The arrival doors open at 7:35 am and the doors will close promptly at 7:45 am. After that your student needs to enter the school through the FRONT doors, sign in, and get a tardy slip.

Student departure time from school is at 2:49 pm.

At 3:10 pm all students remaining on CMIT premises will go to the cafeteria and must be picked up and signed out by the parent for late pick up.

Military Parents and Children Appreciation Breakfast
April is the Month of Military Child. April 15th is “Purple Up! For Military Kids” day. Across the nation, people are being encouraged to show support for our military and veteran children and to thank them for their strength and sacrifices. We here at CMIT-S would like to take this opportunity to support and thank both our military children and parents who are current and retired service members by providing you with an appreciation breakfast on Friday April 15th at 8:00 am.

Also, on Friday, April 15th all CMIT-S students will be allowed to wear purple "any" appropriate purple tops while being in compliance with the rest of the uniform policy to show their support for their military peers.

We cannot thank our military families enough for the sacrifices they make each day for our country. We are hopeful that you will be able to join us on Friday, April 15th as we honor your families.

Student Service Learning Opportunity
Whitemarsh Park, 100 White Marsh Park Dr, Bowie, MD 20715

May 21st, 2016, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

www.cityofbowie.org/weedwarriors

The City of Bowies Green Team is in need of volunteers to help remove English ivy from Whitemarsh Park. As an invasive, non-native plant, English ivy spreads quickly and easily, and is very destructive to native ecosystems. This is an outdoor activity that requires cutting the ivy vines at eye-level and foot-level, then pulling them back about two feet from the base of the tree to bag them. To participate, please register by contacting Kristin Larson (klarson@cityofbowie.org, 301-809-3044). This is a great Student Service Learning opportunity. Children age 14 and younger must be under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian or Troop Leader at all times, and no volunteers under age 16 can use tools but may participate by pulling and bagging vines. Tiffany Wright (Watershed Manager for the City of Bowie) or Kristin Larson (Sustainability Planner for the City of Bowie) will sign off on service learning hours for students at the event.
