MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
8th Grade Service Learning Hours- New Requirements
Dear Parents and Guardians; Maryland State Department of Education mandates all students to earn a minimum of twenty-four (24) independent service-learning hours as a graduation requirement. In an effort to ensure our students are on track for meeting the service-learning graduation requirement, they are now required to earn a minimum of eight (8) hours prior to entering high school. School systems have the autonomy to tailor the requirement to meet the unique needs of students, schools and the community. We will continue to allow students the opportunity to participate in service-learning experiences that occur during the school day. Throughout the school year, all middle and high school (6-12 grade) students can participate in one of the following school-based service-learning projects, known as PROJECT 24. Schools are permitted to create and implement specific projects which meets the needs of the community. As our partners in education, feel free to submit ideas for service-learning projects and opportunities that enhance your school community to your School-Based Student Service-Learning Coordinator Dr. Jones, marvin2.jones@pgcps.org, or via email to student.learning@pgcps.org. We are committed to assist your scholar in making a difference in our community, understanding the value of service and meeting graduation requirements. Sincerely,

Dr. Borden-McCarter, Principal

UPCOMING EVENTS
Saturday Academy
Greetings CMIT South Family, This session and the next session we will be offering PSAT 8/9 help to prepare our students for testing on November 30, 2022. Saturday Academy has begun. We have two sessions that you may choose from 9:00 am-10:30 am and 10:40 am -12:30 pm or both sessions. Your scholars will be dropped off and picked up on the same side as normal dropoffs and pick-ups. I have a sign that is outside of the door that we will utilize each Saturday. This is the only door that students will use each week. I will be waiting for your scholar to sign in and direct them to where they need to go. What do I need from you and your scholar? I need your scholar to know what he/she needs assistance with. Upon entering the first questions I will ask them are. What grade are you in and what do you need help with today? Are you staying for both sessions? I need you as parents/guardians to provide your scholar with a snack if possible if they plan to stay for both sessions because that is a long time without something to eat. I will try to have a snack each Saturday, but it may not be what they want. Most importantly, I need you to respect our time together. We are providing a service, but we also have families to get home to on the weekends. Please pick your child up on time. Lastly, I need you to make sure your scholar comes with his/her device to work. If you have not already registered your scholar please use the link to do so for documentation purposes. https://forms.gle/2jrTW7qvj3wiAKJy5 Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me gjones@cmitsouth.org. I look forward to seeing you on Saturdays. Sincerely,

Georgia Jones, Testing Coordinator
