Lunch and Locker Use Updates
Parents and Guardians, On November 29th, CMIT South and schools across the district began to implement updated locker distribution and cafeteria usage plans. As we continue to distribute lockers, please keep in mind that students and staff will need to become acclimated to the plan and its impact on school transitions. Likewise, our lunch plan has students eating with their class cohorts in the cafeteria during one of our 4 lunch blocks. We will continue to monitor to ensure adherence to COVID protocols and make revisions to the plan when necessary. Your patience and understanding is appreciated in advance. Sincerely, Dr. Borden-McCarter, Principal Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South Middle/High School

Picture Retake Day - December 14
Attention all Tiger Scholars - both Middle and High School! Picture RETAKE day will take place on December 14th. Students need to wear the following: -CMIT South uniform polo shirts -Appropriate uniform pants & shoes as usual If a student does not have a uniform polo shirt due to a uniform shortage, they should wear a plain polo shirt in one of the appropriate colors (blue/green for middle school and purple/gold for high school). If a student has PE class on December 14th but needs to retake their photo, they should still wear their normal uniform and NOT their PE attire. Students do not need to wear their school oxford shirt this year and all students will be photographed. Students who were not in the correct uniform on picture day will need to participate in the Retake Day if they want to appear in the school yearbook as ONLY THE CORRECTLY UNIFORMED STUDENTS WILL APPEAR IN THE YEARBOOK. Students wearing a school sweatshirt or jacket will be asked to take it off for their picture. High School students will receive a student ID using their uniform photo. COVID CLARITY If you receive a letter from the school being identified as a close contact, one with symptoms and/or you are confirmed COVID positive (outside lab or through pool testing) please read in its entirety for complete instructions. -ALL COVID POSITIVE cases must have clearance from the Health Department PRIOR to returning to school; no exceptions. -ALL UNVACCINATED Close Contacts are required to show proof of a negative PCR COVID test (not rapid) from DAY 5 of quarantine or later PRIOR to returning to school. Please see PGCPS Quarantine and Testing Guidelines for more information; https://www.pgcps.org/coronavirus/resources/quarantine-and-testing. These are only guidelines; when a scholar/staff may return depends on several factors. Your cooperation is important for the well-being of your family, our families and the entire CMIT South community as a whole. When to Stay Home from School/Work Gone are the days we medicate our scholars and ourselves with Advil or Tylenol for minor cold/allergy symptoms and send them on their way to school. COVID has impacted us all. Please do daily symptom checks, if you or your scholar are exhibiting symptoms, stay home from school/work and monitor. Contact your PCP for guidance prior to sending to school. If these symptoms are related to an underline chronic medical condition that is within student's baseline, provide the school with such documentation. COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Information Curious about booster vaccine? See CDC attachment. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/booster-shot.html December 5-11, 2021 is National Influenza Vaccination Week Did you know most influenza viruses spread all year long? According to the CDC peak season is between December and February though activity can last through late May. Its important to discuss with your PCP if the vaccine is right for you. The ideal time for vaccination is September, prior to the onset of activity in October. Good news...it's not too late. This year's four component vaccine (designed to protect against 4 different flu viruses) is currently available. Visit the CDC's website for up to date information. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/season/faq-flu-season-2021-2022.htm

Ms. O'Daniel's Class Update
Greetings, Quarter Two is in full swing in room 329. Scholars are now able to earn "Tiger Paws" which they can spend at the PBIS center in the classroom to earn prizes such as bookmarks, and stickers for Practicing respect, accepting responsibility, working together, and being successful. Scholars will earn tickets throughout the class that they can cash in for their prizes before or after class. Please ask your scholars to come to class with a charged chrome book. There are very limited outlets, and it is vital that students remain in their assigned seats due to Covid-19. Students will not be permitted to change their seat to charge their chrome books during class. Here's and update from each class: LSN Government: Students are wrapping up Unit Two: Foundational Documents this week and will be investigating how the Constitution guards against tyranny. Students will have an opportunity to rewrite their previously graded Constructed Response by completing the reteaching pear deck activity found on Canvas. Students are encouraged to attend Saturday Academy where they will receive additional support for the writing structure. AP Government: Students are learning about selective incorporation and how the Bill of Rights gradually began to apply to the individual states. Students have been working on a "DC Trip" which is a packet that should be completed as we go through the unit. Students have mini due dates to ensure they will not be overwhelmed at the end of the unit to complete this packet. Please check with your scholar to ensure they are working on this assignment throughout the unit. Comparative Religion: Students have completed the units on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and we will now begin comparing Hinduism and Buddhism. Students have received their final project which is a timeline of the religions we have learned about in class. This project is due January 31, 2022 and is not eligible for a retake. Students can submit their projects up until January 10, 2022 for feedback before their final submission. This project can be accessed on Canvas. Students should begin working on this project, and will receive time in class to work on their projects to avoid feeling overwhelmed towards the end of the quarter.
