DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
We understand and share in the frustration with the traffic flow during dismissal. As those on the frontline, we want dismissal to occur as safely and efficiently as possible. A large part falls on our parent community for support. Law enforcement has been instructed to ticket and clear out any cars that are breaking laws such as parking in no parking zones and making unlawful U-turns. This is a safety concern for our students and aiding in the traffic build up. Every parent/guardian or transportation aid is expected to follow the dismissal procedures which includes entering the school's parking lot and exiting through the identified alley. * Please be kind and compliant to the staff members and volunteers directing traffic. * Do not park in the alley exiting the property. It is causing too close of contact with students and moving cars. There are “No Parking” signs present. * Do not park on Fallard Drive or Fallard Ct and instruct your scholars to meet you down the street. That is also aiding in the traffic build up and students crossing the streets unsafely. There are “No Parking” signs present. Violators will be ticketed. * Refrain from making unlawful U-turns. * Do not park in the parking lots of our neighboring businesses. We are continuously working for greater partnership and consistency with law enforcement to help the flow of traffic. Thank you in advance for your patience and compliance with our dismissal procedures. Please continue to set good examples for our students regarding following the rules, even when we don't like/agree with them.

Picture Day is Approaching
Attention all Tiger Scholars - both Middle and High School! Picture day will take place on November 1st and 2nd here at CMIT South. Students need to wear the following: -CMIT South uniform polo shirts -Appropriate uniform pants & shoes as usual If a student does not have a uniform polo shirt due to a uniform shortage, they should wear a plain polo shirt in one of the appropriate colors (blue/green for middle school and purple/gold for high school). If a student has PE class on their picture day, they should still wear their normal uniform and NOT their PE attire. Students do not need to wear their school oxford shirt this year and all students will be photographed, whether they are in uniform or not. Students not in the correct uniform on picture day will need to participate in the Retake Day if they want to appear in the school yearbook as only the correctly uniformed students will appear in the yearbook. Students wearing a school sweatshirt or jacket will be asked to take it off for their picture. High School students will receive a student ID using their uniform photo. IDs will not be immediately distributed. Picture day forms will be sent home via each Scholar's English class next week.

Middle School Updates
Greetings Middle School Tigers & Families, We are officially halfway through the first quarter! Our scholars have been getting acclimated quickly to being back in the building full time. Be on the lookout for Progress Reports next week so you are aware of where our scholars currently are. Additionally, our CMIT educators have made notifications to all parents of students that received a D or E in a course. Please continue to have your scholars check Canvas and SchoolMax daily in order to ensure they are up to date regarding their coursework. It is also our expectation that students are reporting to class on time and not wandering in the hallways. Students have 5 minutes to report class and should be present and ready to engage in learning! In order to be prepared we are reminding our scholars to come to school with a fully charged Chromebook to adequately complete work. Ms. O'Daniel's Class Update
Hello! Students have been engaged in learning with different activities that require their chrome books. Please make sure your scholars are coming to school with their chrome books completely charged in order to be successful. There are a limited amount of outlets for students to use in the classroom to charge their chrome books. Here is an update from room 329: LSN Government: Students have been learning about the different powers held at the national and state level. Students worked together to allocate resources given to them by chance to experience how governments must decide how to allocate resources to their populations with a limited amount of resources. Students also had to decide how to cope with scarcity experienced with their resources. AP Government and Politics: Students have been working together to explore Supreme Court Cases that impacted the foundation of the United States Government. Comparative Religion: Students have been researching the teaching of Jesus and the method of his teachings. Students will be presenting their research next week. All Classes: Students had a brain break on Friday October 22, to reflect on goal setting and determine what goal they would like to focus on this school year. Students wrote their goals on an index card that will be displayed in the classroom as a visual reminder of their goals for this school year.

In Spanish Class we started with dictation strategies and it is very important to copy down and study the words for every week. This Methodology helps the students with the modes of communication on listening and writing. Also, check Canvas everyday to get the agenda posted on Announcements and check the Assignments. Words for dictations will be posted in Canvas on Assignments. Thank you. If you have questions or doubts don't hesitate to contact me to farroyo@cmitsouth.org Respetuosamente;

Environmental Scientists Contemplate Runoff
The scholars in our 11th grade Environmental Science class weren't staging an election or thinking of skipping school! They were using what they knew about the water cycle and watersheds to analyze the CMIT South campus for potential stormwater runoff issues. Using maps and math, classmates worked together to make predictions about how well rainwater would permeate into the various surfaces around our school. They tested their predictions outdoors using percolation test kits. Students determined that while the majority of campus is impermeable and creates stormwater runoff, the news isn't all bad. The grassy areas around the parking lot allow water to infiltrate much faster than expected. Our scholars predict that when the athletic fields are completed the CMIT South campus will soak up much more precipitation and contribute less runoff to the Patuxent River watershed. More hands-on science to come!
