DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
We understand and share in the frustration with the traffic flow during dismissal. As those on the frontline, we want dismissal to occur as safely and efficiently as possible. A large part falls on our parent community for support. Law enforcement has been instructed to ticket and clear out any cars that are breaking laws such as parking in no parking zones and making unlawful U-turns. This is a safety concern for our students and aiding in the traffic build up. Every parent/guardian or transportation aid is expected to follow the dismissal procedures which includes entering the school's parking lot and exiting through the identified alley. * Please be kind and compliant to the staff members and volunteers directing traffic. * Do not park in the alley exiting the property. It is causing too close of contact with students and moving cars. There are “No Parking” signs present. * Do not park on Fallard Drive or Fallard Ct and instruct your scholars to meet you down the street. That is also aiding in the traffic build up and students crossing the streets unsafely. There are “No Parking” signs present. Violators will be ticketed. * Refrain from making unlawful U-turns. * Do not park in the parking lots of our neighboring businesses. We are continuously working for greater partnership and consistency with law enforcement to help the flow of traffic. Thank you in advance for your patience and compliance with our dismissal procedures. Please continue to set good examples for our students regarding following the rules, even when we don't like/agree with them.

Attendance News & Updates
Hello CMIT South MS/HS Families, As we begin the new school year, we want to make sure all parents and students are aware of the CMIT South attendance policies. At CMIT South we follow the PGCPS attendance policy AP 5113 and recently PGCPS has updated its attendance policies. Below are some quick bullet points of the updated attendance policies: CMIT South will now start using the new google form 2021-2022 Absence Reason Notification Form CMIT South Middle/High School for all students who will be absent from school. This form will serve as the official means of parent/guardian notifications for student absences. CMIT South is no longer taking paper excused/doctor notes. When a student is going to be absent please fill out the new google form 2021-2022 Absence Reason Notification Form CMIT South Middle/High School. The form will be sent straight to the attendance manager. If a student’s absences reach six days a physician’s certificate will be required. Please send the physician’s certificate directly to the school's attendance manager at attendance@cmitsouth.org. Parents are the only ones who can fill out the form and email the attendance manager about a student who is absent. A student cannot send the email or fill out the google form, the absence will not be excused if a student does it. The google form must be filled out within 3 days of the student’s absence, otherwise, the absence will not be excused. Students who are considered unlawfully (unexcused) absent from school or a class will not have the opportunity to make up missed assignments. Here is the link to the 2021-2022 Absence Reason Notification Form CMIT South Middle/High School Form: https://forms.gle/doKYupBsN18Qh1SR6 Once again these are just some of the new updates that PGCPS has put in the attendance policy AP 5113. We encourage all parents to read the full updated attendance policy here: https://www.pgcps.org/globalassets/offices/general-counsel/docs---general-counsel/administrative-procedures/administrative-procedure-5113-student-attendance-absence-and-truancy-1.18.21.pdf For all attendance-related information or questions please direct it to attendance@cmitsouth.org. Attached is the CMIT South Attendance updates & policies PDF document. Thank you.

COVID CLARITY If you receive a letter from the school being identified as a close contact, one with symptoms and/or you are confirmed COVID positive (outside lab or through pool testing) please read in its entirety for complete instructions. -ALL COVID POSITIVE cases must have clearance from the Health Department PRIOR to returning to school; no exceptions. -ALL UNVACCINATED Close Contacts are required to show proof of a negative PCR COVID test (not rapid) from DAY 5 of quarantine or later PRIOR to returning to school. Please see PGCPS Quarantine and Testing Guidelines for more information; https://www.pgcps.org/coronavirus/resources/quarantine-and-testing. These are only guidelines; when a scholar/staff may return depends on several factors. Your cooperation is important for the well-being of your family, our families and the entire CMIT South community as a whole. IMMUNIZATION DELLIQUENCY If you received a letter earlier this school year re: immunization noncompliance your date has been extended to November 15, 2021. When to Stay Home from School/Work Gone are the days we medicate our scholars and ourselves with Advil or Tylenol for minor cold/allergy symptoms and send them on their way to school. COVID has impacted us all. Please do daily symptom checks, if you or your scholar are exhibiting symptoms, stay home from school/work and monitor. Contact your PCP for guidance prior to sending to school. If these symptoms are related to an underline chronic medical condition that is within student's baseline, provide the school with such documentation.

Ms. O'Daniel's Class Update
Hello! Our class has been full of learning and I am truly enjoying the activities we have been able to complete in person while still remaining safe with the Covid protocols. Please remember to encourage your students to being their Chromebook fully charged to school as there are limited outlets available in the classroom for students to charge their computers during class. Here's what's been happening in room 329: LSN Government Last week we wrapped up learning about types of government with the help of the Star Wars Universe and some manipulatives. The students were able to work together to show a community of gummy bears displaying the different types of government. I loved to see their creativity with showing voting stations for democracy, a throne for the king and queen in a monarchy, and the bears in complete chaos during an anarchy. I have attached some pictures for you to enjoy as well! We are moving into federalism and economic systems in the upcoming weeks. AP American Government and Politics The students have been working so hard in learning about primary sources that helped guide our founding fathers to create the Constitution. Last week we took a pause from the reading and created our own Constitutional Convention who's who notes which allowed the students to learn about the men involved in the convention along with create a pop up sheet to help with visual aids. I have also attached a picture so you can see the students' creations. We are moving into the parts of the Constitution, federalism, and how federalism works by examining different court cases. Comparative Religion We have wrapped up our unit on Judaism and have moved into Christianity. Students have been learning about the life of Jesus, and will begin to explore the way Jesus taught his followers through parables.

FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE MEAL APPLICATIONS DUE OCTOBER 31ST
IMPORTANT Food and Nutrition Services Updates Free and Reduced-Price Meals applications due Oct. 31. School meals are free for all Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) students this school year, but families still need to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARMS) application to remain eligible. FARMS responses determine most of the school system’s annual funding, which helps to cover staff and school resources. A 1 percent change in responses can put as much as $4 million in annual revenue at risk. Help PGCPS continue to receive funding for free meals and student services by completing the FARMS application no later than Sunday, October 31. Please use the link below to complete the application. Paper applications are also available in the front office. https://www.pgcps.org/offices/food-and-nutrition/free-and-reduced-meals
