Happy Sunday CMIT South Family!
I want to thank our CMIT Academy South students and sponsoring staff for that very “on time” Black History Program this past Thursday. I had a long, tiring day and thought I couldn’t do one more thing. Well, I’m glad I attended. I was uplifted and energized by our students and their performance. By the end of the 45 minutes these words came to me and are perfect for what our students were: Socially conscious, talented, convincing, confident, hopeful, and beautiful! I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say, we were all very proud of them.

Hi all,
I wanted to remind the students that I posted some extra credit projects they can do at home to show further mastery of topics from class. We covered a lot over the last couple of weeks and these are projects that can be completed with minimal to no additional costs at home.
I am attaching the document to this newsletter blurb - but the work is to be submitted on Edmodo.
The projects include:
- Build a Terrarium
- Measure Cellular Respiration
- Fermentation You Can Eat
- Chromatography at Home
Have a great, relaxing, and well deserved weekend.

Biology At-Home Lab (March 1)
|
Good morning,
I hope everyone is doing well! I just wanted to contact home prior to next week. I will also put a newsletter post in this week as a reminder for families. I would like for students to complete an "At-Home Lab" next Monday, March 1. In this email I will include the materials needed, and then I will share the lab instructions with videos for students on Monday.
Students will be extracting DNA from a sample of their choice, I recommend strawberries. To do this, they will need:
- Sealable plastic bag
- Strawberries or some other fruit (4 works)
- Detergent solution
-- 200mL of water
-- 20mL of dish soap
-- 1 tsp of salt
- Filter paper (coffee filters)
- Cups (clear cups work best)
- Chilled rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)
If a student cannot obtain these materials prior to Monday, please notify me as soon as possible. I will work separately with students who do not have the supplies on Monday, March 1.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Have a great day,
Mr. Wassam

CMIT South Athletics Statement
|
Hello Students and Parents,
As you all may know there has been an announcement about HS Athletics. In light of this we will be offering athletic opportunities to our students based on guidelines given by the county. The Office of Interscholastic Athletics continues to keep safety first while creating a modified reopening plan of a fall conditioning season and a spring competitive season.
The fall season will begin on March 10th and continue through March 26, 2021. All practices will be held outside and will be canceled for inclement weather. Each workout session will have pods of 10 athletes maximum. This modified Fall season will include Soccer and Volleyball.
Due to the loss of the spring season last year, the spring season will start April 6th and continue through May 29, 2021. The dates will include the state required 20 practice days and will then start an in-county only competitive schedule from Monday through Saturday. This season will not include spectators or post season championships.
Right now, the county is tentatively working towards adding a short conditioning session at the end of the spring season for Winter athletes. This is not definite at this time.
All students can participate in athletic workouts as long as they are academically eligible.
Any student who wants to participate in athletic workouts must have a physical within the last calendar year.
