Principal's Corner
|
Greetings CMIT South M/HS Families,
We've just completed another successful week of teaching and learning. I am taking the time to thank you for your commitment to our scholars' academic achievement. It was a pleasure hearing from those of you who reached out this week.
I also thank you for your attention to the Impact Aid Forms. I was able to send a second email with the link to Scribs. I hope that was helpful. I wanted to do a robocall but could not. PGCPS has moved to a new communication platform, SchoolMessenger. The training to get access to this tool is ongoing. Once we get trained, we will have access to the platform and I will then be able to make robocalls announcing the needs and reminders. Those of you who suggested it, thank you. However, instead of sending individual emails replying to the great suggestion, I thought I would address it here.
Finally, as you may know, the system has begun making telephone alerts to parents when the scholar is absent. The new SchoolMessenger is being used. Sometimes, as it is with most new things, challenges arise. If you receive a call, in error, alerting you that your scholar was absent, please reach out to Ms. LaPorte so the absence could be verified. I am asking families to include the scholars' teachers in your emails when you alert the office about your child's attendance.
If your scholar is going to be absent, please try to alert the school early. W hen the teacher is alerted beforehand, the scholar will have an opportunity to make up the work. This is one of the adjustments being made because of the distance learning environment we are in. Please note, we continue to ensure, if the scholar's absence is "Lawful" regardless of when we are notified, the scholar will have a day for every day lawfully absent, to make up the missed classwork.
Professionally Yours,
Dr. Washington

SENIOR PICTURES
|
This Announcement serves to update seniors and guardians about the status of senior pictures.
We are still being governed by safety constraints due to Covid-19. While we want to help students have some memories of their high school experience, it is vital that we place safety first, above all else. With that being said, the senior picture coordinator, Ms. Cameron, and the school liaison for LifeTouch, Ms. Wallace, met with LifeTouch today to ensure students' picture taking experiences are positive and safe.
Some seniors have already taken their senior pictures at one of the LifeTouch studios. These students are not expected to come to the building for additional pictures.
Students who have signed up to take pictures in the building on the designated days are expected to show up at their appointed time. If students show up late, or at a time other than their appointment time, they will not be able to enter the building and will have to make other arrangements with LifeTouch. There will be no picture make-up day at CMIT South M/HS.
We understand students have purchased various packages. Some packages allow students to change clothing during the shoot. We recommend students wear their special outfit then put the gown over it for the second picture, minimizing the need to change. The information sent by LifeTouch indicated, students may bring an additional person with them to their photo shoot. This is no longer the case. Only the CMIT South M/HS senior will be allowed in the building. All accompanying persons must remain in the car. This includes hair stylists and make-up artists. Additionally, the school lavatories will not be available for public use.
Upon entering the building, students will be expected to wear masks. No masks, no entry. The only time masks are expected to be removed is during the actual taking of pictures, when the photographer is about to click the camera.
We kindly ask parents/guardians to please take a few minutes to discuss this with your seniors. We will provide more information as we receive it and as the time gets closer. Thank you, in advance, for your understanding and cooperation as we do our best to ensure a positive, yet safe, picture taking experience.
Professionally Yours,
Please stay safe!

Class of 2025 Celebration
|
Hello Class of 2025 Parents!
We hope your New Year has gotten off to a great start and that it continues to be great!!
The PTO would like to celebrate our scholars' transition to high school in the Fall and need ideas from our parents. Below is a link to a survey that will give us an idea of what you would like to do. We are taking the current situation into consideration and may have to modify some activities. It all depends on the consensus and what is going on with COVID in the County later in the school year.
Please click on the link below and complete the survey by January 27, 2021. The results will be shared at the next General PTO Meeting, scheduled for January 28, 2021.
Thank you!
