We're halfway there!
Greetings CMIT-South Families! Thank you for another successful week of school. We are nearing the end of our first month of school and approaching the mid-point of 1st quarter. Scholars should have developed a routine which includes checking Edmodo nightly for assignments/communications from teachers. Please continue to check in with your scholar to ensure timely completion and submission of assignments. Kudos to 6th grade families, our recent poll results indicate that 98% of the 6th grade families who attended back to school night are already subscribed to the newsletter! Great job!! Please spread the word and encourage others to visit the CMIT-South MS/HS website to subscribe to the newsletter so they don't miss out on important information and upcoming events. Next week we will welcome 6th grade families for our traditional mid first quarter check-in (virtually). A formal invite including Zoom links will be delivered to the inbox of 6th grade families the morning of your scheduled check-in. Thank you for your continued partnership. Have a great extended weekend and continue to stay safe.

9th Grade Student Government: Reminder
Welcome to a new school year CMIT-South families! Student Government Association allows students to learn about problems they are faced with in the school setting and create a plan to change these problems. The students will learn about roles and responsibilities of elected members of SGA, and will be allowed to run for office if they so choose. The members of SGA will brainstorm fundraising ideas in order to pay for events such as their prom and graduation later in their academic career. SGA will also participate in subcommittees in which students will focus on specific needs within the school community to implement a positive change. Anyone who is interested should email me (Mr. Wassam) or Ms. O'Daniel. We will share more information on when we will meet, how to join, and how to run for an elected position. Not all students who join SGA need to run for office, but the Class of 2024 needs a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary along with others willing to help engage the school community and make it better! Email nwassam@cmitsouth.org, or bodaniel@cmitsouth.org to let us know you are interested!

Mr. Wassam Unit 1 Project Reminder!
Hi all! I just wanted to send a friendly email reminder about an assignment posted in Google Classroom earlier this week. This will serve as the Unit 1 Assessment. Students will complete a "mini-STEM" project and write a paper and create a short presentation to submit. This project is not like a middle school STEM project students have done in the past. Instead, I provided a list of low-cost/free, easy to complete, and accessible approved projects. Students should select a project from that list, complete the project, write a brief paper, and create a short presentation. Students will only submit the paper and presentation - both of which have rubrics in the assignment posted. I have even included my "look-fors" for the paper, a sample presentation, and my expectations for the project. The final submission is next Wednesday, September 30th, 2020. Presentations will begin the following class - in random order. Feel free to email me with any questions!
