Black Lives Matter at School Week
|
Dear Parents/Guardians,
CMIT South History department has decided to join with the National Education Association sponsored “Black Lives Matter at School Week” and our very own PGCEA.. This is an annual week of action during the first week of February each year.
The Black Lives Matter at School movement first started in Seattle during the fall of 2016, when thousands of educators in Seattle came to school on October 19th wearing shirts that said, “Black Lives Matter: We Stand Together.” Hundreds of families and students did too. Many of the shirts also included the message “#SayHerName,” a campaign to raise awareness about the often unrecognized state violence and assault of women in our country.
During the 2017-2018 school year, from February 5 to 9, thousands of educators around the U.S. wore Black Lives Matter shirts to school and taught lessons about structural racism, intersectional black identities, black history, and anti-racist movements for a nationally organized week of action: Black Lives Matter at School. Educators in over 20 cities participated in this national uprising to affirm the lives of Black students, teachers, and families including, Seattle, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, New York City, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and beyond.
The lessons that our educators will teach during this week of action correspond to the thirteen guiding principles of Black Lives Matter:
Restorative Justice, Empathy, and Loving Engagement
Diversity and Globalism
Intergenerational, Black Families, and Black Villages
Black Women and Unapologetically Black
Student Government Association has also decided to participate and are working to create our own “Black Lives Matter at School” T-shirts. These shirts will be available to order by Monday via email. We plan to wear the shirts on February 20, 2020 the day of our Black History Program.
We hope that this will be a success and that this becomes a tradition to celebrate “Black Lives Matter” Week.
Respectfully yours,
Georgia Jones,
Testing Coordinator

Class of 2025 Parent Meeting
|
The Middle School Reps will host a meeting to introduce and update Class of 2025 parents on Wednesday, Feb 5, 2020 from 6pm to 7pm, in the Auditorium.
We’ve started the 3rd quarter and our scholars are fast approaching the 8th grade. We are prepared to meet with the parents and discuss a few matters pertaining to the 8th grade promotion and 2021 activities.
In the last email update from Admin. on November 19, 2019, a few parents have taken the initiative to start fundraising this school year. While this is great; we would like to get more parents involved and we need more ideas to help support our children. There are currently a few approved activities down the pipeline as we close out this year.
We are excited about getting Class of 2025 off on a great foot and we look forward to seeing you there. Thank you
Michelle Marshall and Toisha Faraji, CMIT South MS Reps.
