Umoja Paint, Plan with Purpose & Giving Back!
|
Umoja mentoring club participated in our Happy New Year Painting session to help direct their goals for 2020. The session was led by owner & operator of Whischial Celebrations LLC, located on Main street in Upper Marlboro Maryland, Ms. Romaine! She is a wife, mother, educator/administrator in Montgomery Co. Public Schools, and business owner, a lady of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The girls shared their goals, painted, had snacks and enjoy the afternoon.
Umoja also provided blankets from our Blanket Drive for the Homeless partnering with "Moore Than Food". The Owner & Operated, Sherita Moore was all teared up with gratitude. Umoja collected 23 Blankets. For each blanket donated Moore Thab Food will match with a bowl of soup! Ms. Sherita is a wife and mother, an educator with DCPS and also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Her passion is helping that less fortunate with a good bowl of soup and all the other goodies she cooks.

NEW Maker's Faire Timeline - CHANGED!
|
Hello,
There has been a change in the Maker's Faire timeline. The science department has collaborated and decided that the January 6th assignment ("Test/Evaluate" Reaction Paper) will be combined with the January 28th assignment ("Redesign" Research Paper). Students were given the directions and expectations for this new combined assignment after they returned from break.
While there will no longer be an assignment due on January 6th, that does not mean students should stop working on their project. Students should continue building their projects and should start testing the effectiveness of their project over the course of winter break. Students should also record themselves while testing their projects. They will need these recordings at a later time.
Here is the NEW Maker's Faire schedule:
"Plan" Research 1 - October 7
"Design" Reaction Paper - November 12
"Build" Research Links - Dec. 16
*** "Test & Redesign" Reaction Paper - Jan. 28 ***
"Share" Final Paper - Feb. 24
"Share" Multimedia/Tri-fold boards - March 16
Maker's Faire - Tentative dates - March 23-April 1 (Will depend on standardized testing schedule)

I am excited to introduce CMIT South’s first literary magazine, a publication that focuses on creative writing. Our literary magazine will publish short fiction, poetry, essays, book reviews, art and photography. Our goal is to shine the spotlight on great writing, regardless of the author’s experience level. In fact, many well-known writers got their start in the pages of literary magazines. Please join our literary magazine club that will meet on Mondays from 3:00 to 4:00 in room 325. If you are interested in joining, please email Ms. Cameron (pcameron@cmitsouth.org).
