Mr. Davidson's Project Lead the Way, Principles of Engineering course
Hello families of Engineers! I was pleased to be able to talk to many of you last night at Back-to-School night. To those of you whom I have not yet met, please allow me to tell you a little about our course. Principles of Engineering is for tenth grade students who either have completed or are concurrently completing the PLTW Introduction to Engineering Design prerequisite. Principles of Engineering (POE) gives students, who are interested in design, engineering or another technical career, the opportunity to develop skills in research and analysis, collaborative work, technical writing, and problem solving through activity-, project-, and problem-based (APPB) learning. Used in combination with a teaming approach, APPB-learning challenges students to continually hone their interpersonal skills and creative abilities while applying knowledge learned in other courses to solve engineering design problems and communicate their solutions. Students in this course will explore a broad range of engineering topics including mechanisms, strength of structure and materials, and automation, and apply to take on challenges and complete a variety of hands-on activities and projects. The Principles of Engineering Design (POE) course of study includes: Energy and Power Materials and Structures Control Systems Statistics and Probability Design Process Applications Principles of Engineering is one of the foundation courses in the Project Lead the Way high school pre-engineering program. The course applies and concurrently develops secondary level knowledge and skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). I look forward to working with all of you this year! Best,

Brian Davidson

Welcome to Environmental Science!
Hello families of Environmental Science students, I saw many of you at back to school night and was able to talk about what this class is like and how it's run at CMIT South. To those of you who were not there, let me welcome you to our class and invite you to email me (bdavidson@cmitsouth.org) with any questions you might have. Environmental Science is a multidisciplinary course where students learn about the relationship between humans and the natural world. We will use a hands-on approach to investigate environmental issues through the lenses of biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, sociology, history, math, political science, and ethics. This course is designed as a comprehensive, contemporary environmental science course with emphasis on fieldwork and data collection and analysis. Students will apply science and engineering practices and crosscutting concepts of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to local and global to real-world environmental science issues. Students will also investigate the natural environment and the interrelationships among natural systems including biodiversity and population dynamics. This course will involve students developing solutions to authentic problem-based environmental issues and investigations, while also exploring career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Environmental Science is a full-year course designed to be the equivalent of a one-semester, introductory college course in environmental science. Environmental Science has been developed to be a rigorous science course that stresses scientific principles and analysis and includes a laboratory component. In both breadth and level of detail, the content of the course reflects what is found in many introductory college courses in environmental science. The goal of the course is to provide students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, to examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them, and to develop and focus their own political perspective. I look forward to working with all of you this year! Best,

Brian Davidson

Mr. Wassam AP Environmental Science
Hello All! I just wanted to thank everyone who came to Back to School Night and introduce myself to those who couldn't make it. Just to recap the night: 1. This is a college level course so students will be expected to complete work at a college level. The easy stuff like reading and background information is expected to be completed at home so we can do the minimum of 25% of class time on labs. Mr. Davidson and I are working closely together to provide the same class to all students to prepare them for the AP exam and college courses. 2. My syllabus can be found in the folders section of Edmodo - but my parent contact form highlighted some of the key parts of the syllabus. 2a. If you have any questions please send me an email at nwassam@cmitsouth.org - I will respond as promptly as I can (within reasonable hours). 3. I will post all my PowerPoints to the folders section as well if a student misses a class or wants to review them. 4. I strive to be 90% electronic so all assignments or assignment descriptions can be found on Edmodo 5. I, along with all of CMIT-South, have a zero tolerance plagiarism and cheating policy. Being authentic/original, creative/innovative, and honest/open goes a long way. I look forward to a great year!

RELA 10 Welcome
Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! I look forward to working with my new students and seeing tremendous growth this year. We just completed the fall MAP-R testing. You will find their RIT (overall) score in SchoolMax, but the score does not impact their overall grade in SchoolMax. The MAP-R test is a computer-based test of approximately 40 questions. Student's scores are divided into three categories: informational text, literature, and vocabulary acquisition. The grade level score for 10th grade is 220.3. This assessment helps me to determine your student's Lexile (reading) levels, which areas are strengths, and which areas are opportunities. I look forward to a productive and successful year with the class of 2022. If you have any questions, please email me at pcameron@cmitsouth.org.

Mr. Wassam's Biology Introduction
Hello All! I just wanted to thank everyone who came to Back to School Night and introduce myself to those who couldn't make it. Just to recap the night: 1. While I did forget, until the wonderful Ms. Nicholas was presenting - I am a human and I am happy to share my past experiences like my education or other background information if anyone asks (Go Eagles). 4. I strive to be 90% electronic so all assignments or assignment descriptions can be found on Edmodo 4a. To highlight something from my syllabus - in an effort to be more sustainable and use less paper, students have the privilege to choose (until such privilege is lost) to take online notes. However students can be the best scholar they can they have the option to take online or paper notes - whichever helps them succeed. The abuse of such a privilege can result in the loss of technology so please remind them to be responsible. 5. I, along with all of CMIT-South, have a zero tolerance plagiarism and cheating policy. Being authentic/original, creative/innovative, and honest/open goes a long way. I look forward to a great year!
