GENERAL NEWS
Announcement - CLF invites parent members to serve on its CLF Board of Directors
The CLF Board will appoint two parent members from Prince George’s County to its Board of Directors. Interested parent candidates wishing to join are required to submit their resume along with a cover letter of intent to the board of directors by January 31. Cover letter items should include various ways the parent candidate believes they will best represent CLF’s public charter schools by contributing to the CLF board. Potential candidates are also asked to indicate how many children they have attending CMIT schools and how many years they have been involved with CMIT schools in their cover letter. Please e-mail your resume and cover letter to: awilson@clfmd.org with the subject line: “CLF Board Parent Candidate.” The Board Executive committee will review resume submissions and select five candidates prior to the board meeting. The board will vote to elect two out of these five parent candidates recommended by the executive committee at the February 21, 2019, CLF Board Meeting. The parent board members selected will serve a one-year term and may serve for three consecutive terms if re-appointed by a majority board vote at the end of each annual term.

3RD QUARTER BEGINS WITH ABBREVIATED DAYS
This week was a challenging one as a result of the abbreviated school days due to inclement weather. Although periods were shortened, CMIT South MS/HS staff continue to provide instruction in the limited time. This may mean more time spent beyond the regular 30 mins completing assigned task at home. CMIT South MS/HS asks that parents ensure that students are completing assignments and spending the additional time at home on learning. Thank you for all that you do.

WE WANT YOUR PICTURES FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARBOOK!
Get your pictures in this year's middle school yearbook! We would like to invite all parents, guardians, family members, and students to submit photos for this year's middle school yearbook. If you have great photos of middle school events or of you and your friends just having fun, we would like to see them! Our photographers can't be everywhere this year, so help us get as many photos as possible to create a terrific book everyone will want to have. The more pictures we have, the better chance of seeing yourself and your friends in the yearbook! We want photos of sporting events, school events (Hispanic Heritage, Talent Show, school dances, Black History Celebration, etc.), and casual group photos too (you can keep the selfies though!). We have two ways to submit photos this year and they can be submitted from now until the end of April, so upload after each event you attend throughout the year. See below and the attachments for instructions on how to use either site. Option 1: ReplayIt Site On this site, you can upload any school-related photos off your phone or Facebook to a school-wide photo sharing site. This allows any member of the school community to see pictures of all the things happening at school this year. Directions for setting up a ReplayIt account are attached below. Option 2: Private Upload If you'd rather not share your photos to the entire school community site, you can upload them strictly for yearbook use. Here is how you can submit photos privately: • Go to: https://images.memoryebooks.com/login • If it does not automatically log you into the site, enter username: 411443695 • Browse to select the photo(s) you wish to upload. • Enter information about the photo and provide contact information in case the staff needs additional information. • Click "Save Details". It's that easy..submit your photos today! Remember, the last day to submit photos is April 22nd, but don't wait...do it today and keep submitting as the year goes!! **(We will review all photos and determine final yearbook content. We cannot guarantee that all submissions can be used in the book.)

Science Extra Credit and Tutoring
Hello all! I want to welcome everyone to the second half of the year! This is where we solidify a strong year of learning and gaining skills to succeed in future courses. Here are the brief updates for my science classes. Biology: We have finished our midterm and ready to move into the next unit. The midterm average was 69% - which is not bad! We are into our unit about DNA, cell division, RNA, and proteins Next week I hope we can complete a few hands-on labs about DNA! We will have a test on DNA and Cell division on or about 2/11/19 Following the test we will learn about RNA and proteins The next topic after that will be GENETICS! Physics: We have finished our midterm and ready to move into the next unit. The midterm average was 77% Our roller coasters turned out great and I have posted about them as well! We are now learning about collisions and momentum. In this unit we will build an egg-drop capsule and calculate the momentum and impulse of dropping it from different heights. Our next test will be on or about 2/13/19 The next unit will be about Thermodynamics Other than that, I will be in my room every Tuesday morning from 7:30 - 8:20AM for extra help in science. Biology and Physics students should come with questions or specific assignments they need extra help with. Have a great weekend!
