GOOGLE EXPEDITION WENT WELL!!!
For everyone who did or did not know, CMIT South was chosen as a pilot school to beta test a new program called google expeditions (GE). GE brings the outside world into the classroom through augmented reality and virtual reality. This past Wednesday, GE came to our school and tested out their augmented reality with the students. Augmented reality is like looking at a 2D picture and then all of a sudden it turns into a 3D picture, in order to get a 360 view of the object, you must completely walk around the object which only exists on your phone. In the file attached are pictures of this process. Some of the lessons they went over was Ancient Rome, Dinosaurs, Solar System, Forces of Nature, and some of the body systems. I believe the students absolutely loved it and cannot wait to do it again!

Last Day of School for Students
The Prince George’s County Board of Education voted on 04/24/2018 to extend the school year by three days to make up instructional time lost to inclement weather. All students are expected to report daily to school until the last day of school - June 20. Maryland elected officials recently passed emergency legislation that enables school districts to add up to five days beyond the state-mandated last day for students (June 15) to make up for days lost due to inclement weather. The last day of school for students will now be Wednesday, June 20. There will be a two-hour early dismissal on June 19 and June 20. For more information, visit www.pgcps.org/school-calendar-process.

Oreo Moon Phases
We certainly had a lot of fun in the past few weeks with food! First my bio students and now my 6th graders. To represent phases of the moon, we did an experiment with Oreo's where the frosting represented the light side of the moon and the cookie represented the dark side of the moon. Once students completed each phase of the moon, they had no problem eating them afterwards. :)

I thought I would share an awesome experiment we did in Biology to represent the structure and composition of the DNA double helix. My kids loved it as it was made out of gum drops, toothpicks, and twizzlers, and of course they loved it even more with the promise of eating the left over candy! :)
